This workforce reduction is the second for the Los Angeles-based esports organization within a seven-month period.
In January 2023, the Los Angeles-based esports organization 100 Thieves implemented a workforce reduction, marking the second such event for the company within a seven-month period. While the organization did not issue an official public statement, reports indicate that approximately 30 employees were affected by these cuts.
The layoffs impacted various levels of the company, most notably including Chief Revenue Officer Matty Lee. Lee, who had been with the organization for over four years and served as a key executive since 2020, confirmed his departure via professional social media channels. Multiple other staff members also utilized social media platforms to announce their exit from the company and their subsequent search for new employment opportunities.
This reduction follows a previous round of layoffs in July 2022, which primarily targeted the organization's social media and content creation departments. As a privately held entity, 100 Thieves is not legally required to disclose the specifics of its workforce adjustments. These recurring personnel changes highlight ongoing structural shifts within the esports industry as organizations navigate evolving business models and financial pressures.
