Prize Money. The Dubai-based esports organization Galaxy Racer (GXR) owes a total of $80,000 in prize money to the top three teams.
The $100K HER Galaxy Apex Legends Open, a women-only esports tournament held in June 2023, remains a subject of controversy as winners and service providers have yet to receive their promised compensation. Nine months after the event concluded, the Dubai-based organizer, Galaxy Racer (GXR), has failed to fulfill its financial obligations, including prize money for top-placing teams and service fees for the tournament platform, LeagueSpot.
The outstanding payments include $40,000 for the winning team, Team Cuties, $25,000 for second-place finisher Luminosity Red, and $15,000 for third-place team, Team Lust. Additionally, LeagueSpot is owed $40,000 for its role in facilitating the competition. Despite contractual obligations requiring payouts within 180 days—a deadline that passed in December 2023—and previous assurances from GXR management that payments would be settled, the organization has ceased communication with both the affected players and the tournament platform.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of financial instability at Galaxy Racer, which has also faced allegations of failing to provide back pay to content creators and competitors within its GXR Elite program. While GXR has previously cited an ongoing merger with Riva Technology and Entertainment as a reason for payment delays, no public updates regarding the merger have been provided. Despite these unresolved debts, the organization continues to operate and participate in other competitive gaming events, raising significant concerns regarding its professional conduct and the treatment of participants within the esports industry.
