Global video game commerce firm Xsolla has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Arabia government-owned Savvy Games Group. This partnership aims to advance the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative by fostering economic growth and creating new employment opportunities within the Middle Eastern gaming and esports sectors. The collaboration focuses on establishing the Xsolla Savvy Game Development Academy, alongside incubator and accelerator programs designed to support both local and international game development studios.
Under the terms of the agreement, Xsolla intends to open a regional headquarters in Riyadh to provide comprehensive development, technology, and business services. The partnership also seeks to facilitate industry-leading events, provide funding for game development projects, and bridge the gap between local studios and international investors. Savvy Games Group, which maintains a significant portfolio including ESL FACEIT Group and Scopely, views this alliance as a strategic step toward elevating the regional gaming ecosystem to global prominence.
The announcement coincides with recent scrutiny regarding Xsolla’s internal governance. Reports indicate that the company’s CEO allegedly utilized over $100 million of corporate funds—representing approximately one-third of the company’s annual revenue—for personal loans and expenditures, including real estate and luxury investments. While these funds were reportedly largely repaid, the allegations highlight significant questions regarding the firm's financial management practices during the same period it is expanding its international footprint through the Savvy Games Group partnership.
