The Chongqing Green Development Group, a state-owned enterprise, has invested in Wolves Esports. This partnership was finalized in June 2025.
Wolves Esports, the competitive gaming division of the English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers and its parent company, Fosun Sports, has secured a multi-million dollar strategic investment from the Chongqing Green Development Group. This partnership, finalized in June 2025, aims to bolster the organization’s competitive infrastructure and expand its digital ecosystem within China. The capital infusion is specifically earmarked to support the development of a 10,000-square-meter, 2,000-seat esports arena in the Bishan District of Chongqing, which is scheduled for completion by late 2025.
The investment reflects a broader strategy by Fosun Sports to integrate traditional sports intellectual property with the rapidly growing Chinese esports market. By establishing a permanent, high-capacity venue, the organization intends to solidify its presence in the region and compete with established hubs like Shanghai. This initiative is positioned as a key driver for urban revitalization, aiming to stimulate local tourism, job creation, and cultural development through the lens of professional gaming.
The organization’s track record in the region serves as the foundation for this expansion. Between 2024 and 2025, Wolves Esports hosted over 130 offline events, attracting 200,000 attendees and generating approximately ¥100 million RMB ($14 million USD) in peripheral economic activity. These events garnered 3 billion online impressions, underscoring the commercial viability of the organization's "esports plus city" model. With a history of success in titles such as Honor of Kings and Call of Duty: Mobile, the organization continues to leverage its international brand heritage to maintain a dominant position in China’s competitive landscape.
