This analysis evaluates the competitive landscape between two dominant mobile titles, Royal Match and Monopoly Go, to determine which game holds greater long-term potential. Utilizing data from AppMagic, the assessment covers the global mobile gaming market from 2015 through mid-2024, focusing on the Match-3 and Casual Casino genres. The study employs a comparative framework that examines genre market share, revenue per download (RPD), and historical performance trends to forecast future leadership.
The findings highlight a significant shift in the mobile revenue hierarchy. While Monopoly Go achieved historic growth following its April 2023 launch—capturing 57% of the Casual Casino market share by the first half of 2024—it has faced a notable decline in both downloads and revenue throughout 2024. Conversely, Royal Match has demonstrated greater stability, maintaining a 25% market share within the Match-3 genre for the same period. Although Monopoly Go maintains a higher RPD of $9.64 compared to Royal Match’s $7.53, the latter’s consistent performance and broader global appeal suggest a more sustainable trajectory.
The analysis concludes that Royal Match is better positioned for long-term success. While Monopoly Go relies heavily on the strength of its intellectual property and US-centric market concentration, it faces structural challenges, including royalty obligations to Hasbro and a sharper decline in user acquisition scale. In contrast, Royal Match’s success is attributed to product innovation, a frictionless meta-game design, and highly effective, broadly appealing marketing. Consequently, the disparity in user acquisition scale and the relative stability of revenue trends indicate that Royal Match will likely outperform Monopoly Go in the long term.
