Each of these events offers a $200,000 USD prize pool, contributing to the competitive circuit.
The ESL FACEIT Group has announced the structural and operational details for the 2023-2024 StarCraft II ESL Pro Tour season. The circuit features a rebranded competition structure, transitioning from the previous DreamHack StarCraft II Masters to the ESL StarCraft II Masters. This global initiative encompasses four distinct competitive regions: the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Korea, with the latter continuing its partnership with GSL for regional operations.
The season schedule includes weekly ESL Open Cups and two major live events. The first, the ESL StarCraft II Masters Summer, is set for June 2023 in Jönköping, Sweden, while the second, the ESL StarCraft II Masters Winter, will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, in December 2023. Each of these major events features a $200,000 USD prize pool. The season is designed to culminate in an EPT Championship, though specific details regarding the location and total prize purse for that event remain forthcoming.
A significant shift in the business model accompanies these operational changes. For the first time since initiating its partnership with Blizzard four years ago, the ESL FACEIT Group is assuming full financial responsibility for the StarCraft II esports program. This includes the direct funding of all prize money while maintaining ongoing management of the tour. This transition marks a notable evolution in the financial sustainability and oversight of the StarCraft II competitive ecosystem.
