Sony Group Corporation has entered into a multi-year partnership with the Esports World Cup Foundation, establishing itself as a founding partner of the inaugural Esports World Cup. This collaboration aims to leverage Sony’s extensive gaming and entertainment expertise to expand the global reach and appeal of competitive gaming. While the financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, the partnership represents a significant alignment between a major global technology conglomerate and the Saudi Arabian government-backed tournament, which is set to take place in Riyadh.
The partnership involves multiple Sony divisions in the execution of the event. Sony Interactive Entertainment will focus on identifying and supporting emerging creators and talent within the region, while Sony Music Entertainment is tasked with producing the official anthem for the 2024 tournament. Additionally, Sony will produce a behind-the-scenes documentary series highlighting the players, fans, and games featured during the competition. The event is scheduled to host tournaments across ten major titles, including Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, and Fortnite, with operations facilitated by the ESL FACEIT Group.
This strategic move follows the official announcement of the Esports World Cup at the New Global Sport Conference in October 2023. The event is overseen by the Esports World Cup Foundation, an entity established by the Saudi Esports Federation and led by CEO Ralf Reichert. By securing this partnership, Sony strengthens its position within the rapidly evolving professional gaming landscape, further integrating its diverse entertainment portfolio into the high-profile, state-supported esports ecosystem in Saudi Arabia.
