Create free accountah thanks uh I work at Blackberry I'm on the gaming RNG team so I run the gaming at Blackberry here and uh we're here at the show again for the second year it's been great we've had so much fun here last year we had to come back uh we're kind of showcasing a lot of different things at the show here we're letting people first travel the new devices we have the BlackBerry Z10 and a lot of people haven't seen the devices here in this region yet so it's actually good to try the games see what kind of titles we're bringing and just play with the hardware so that's first one of the important things if you get it in their hand let them try uh a lot of people are like so why do I want to try this I'm like just try the device it's actually a great device um another thing we're actually letting people know is and people probably heard is is that the unity beta is now open and blackberries also as David uh
announced from Unity is that they'll be iOS Android and now Blackberry 10 is actually going to be free as part of the mobile uh standard uh deployment so you can actually get the SDK as of now today so you can actually go on to our developer.blackberry.com games and you can actually download and get the trawler even right away now so yeah lots of yeah there's a lot of games coming to Blackburn now uh there's quite a few people that signed up for the beta and the alpha the closed Alpha was really smooth uh so uh another thing that we did on BlackBerry right now is I'm doing a talk here as well today at 2PM developing cross-platform mobile games so that's in the Blackberry theater and uh you know I'm going to cover uh the simplicities of how easy it is to go cross-platform in games another thing we're going to be doing is uh this is the Moga Pro here that's what everyone's saying uh I actually have on here uh this is actually the Moga Pro it has a clip or you can actually unpair it
so I'm going to pause this for a second show you this has a clip on here so you can actually put the device in here it fits in nicely if you want uh do I have a device here I don't have a device on me here but yeah that goes in there and if you want to sit on the couch you can basically flip this down and then get into kind of uh some couch mode playing here you can see I'm I'm hooked up here with HDMI here and uh you know the experience is really good we got I was showing off Shadow gun here by mad finger games it's a Unity because one of the important things is and I'll pause this here again one of the important things is that we've done a lot of Plumbing for these game pads in or one one typical problem about game pads is that every single one has their own SDK and plug-in for Unity and all these kind of things a Blackberry we kind of thought that it would be more important to try to do that plumbing for them so there's Insider screen library now you can actually get the GamePad attached detached you can hide the overlays if you detect that then you can actually pull on the device that gets attached and get the buttons in the analog so uh
makes it really easy if you Implement with that all the controls that we do now today and moving forward will be supported and as well it's built into Unity okay we're the only one that has it built full into Unity so yeah or Xbox one that could be I didn't say that I didn't say that yeah yeah you might think that but I think uh a lot of people are starting to see that you can do really good mobile gaming experience and kind of get this micro console feel that you don't have to go buy a Nvidia shield for 350 bucks you can buy your favorite controller attach it on and start playing a wide range of games right now we actually don't have a lot of titles in the store so that's why we're actually promoting this here but I've talked to a lot of Publishers and they're really excited about what this means and how we actually the architecture on how we did it so they they like that and it feels easy for them to bring their on the hardware side there it's easy to bring the titles and then the games because of the way we've done the plumbing on that and the framework I think it's going to be really easy for them to bring in and
we'll keep implementing this in all the game engines so yeah yeah no problem
BlackBerry is actively expanding its mobile gaming ecosystem by prioritizing developer accessibility and hardware integration for the BlackBerry 10 platform. The core strategy focuses on lowering barriers to entry for game developers through deep integration with the Unity engine. By making the BlackBerry 10 deployment tier free within the Unity mobile standard, the company aims to accelerate the porting of titles from iOS and Android, simplifying the cross-platform development process for studios.
A significant technical advancement involves the company’s internal plumbing for external game controllers, specifically the MOGA Pro. Rather than requiring developers to manage individual software development kits for various peripherals, BlackBerry has implemented a unified library that handles controller detection, button mapping, and analog input directly within the Unity framework. This architecture allows for a seamless transition between handheld play and a micro-console experience, where users can connect their devices to smart televisions via HDMI to achieve a console-like gaming environment.
The initiative targets a broad range of mobile publishers, emphasizing that the hardware architecture and software framework are designed to make porting existing titles efficient and cost-effective. By providing these tools, the company seeks to cultivate a robust library of high-quality games for the Z10 and subsequent devices. This approach positions the platform as a competitive alternative to dedicated portable gaming consoles, offering users a versatile, high-performance mobile gaming experience without the need for specialized, high-cost hardware.
