Riot Lays Out Roadmap for the 2026 LEC Season

Riot Games has unveiled its strategic roadmap for the 2026 League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) season, introducing significant structural changes to the competitive calendar. The primary objective of these updates is to refine the league’s format in response to fan feedback gathered throughout the 2025 season, aiming to enhance engagement and competitive integrity across the European circuit.

A major shift for the upcoming year is the replacement of the traditional Winter Split with a new competition titled LEC Versus – The EMEA Invitational. This event will feature the 10 established LEC partner teams competing against two guest teams from the European Regional Leagues (ERL). The format will consist of a single round-robin, best-of-one stage, with the winner earning a trophy and a qualification spot for the First Stand competition. While ERL teams are not being granted permanent LEC slots, this initiative provides a pathway for standout regional performers to compete at the highest level.

The 2026 season will also maintain a consistent structure for the Spring and Summer Splits, utilizing a single round-robin, best-of-three format for the regular season, followed by best-of-five playoff brackets. Qualification paths for international events remain tied to these splits, with Spring results determining Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) attendance and Summer results dictating participation in the World Championship. Additionally, Riot Games plans to expand its LEC Roadtrips program, intending to host more events in various cities across Europe to better connect with the regional fan base. Further details regarding specific dates, venues, and ticketing for these events are expected to be released later in the year.
