Create free accounthi guys so I'm coming from a company called s which is a if you're driving B can do come of quietly so Villa can speak yeah having a office as closed by here at d as well so while you're getting the drinks I'll introduce few of my colleagues so Esco is there Esco you can get hold of Esco he's an excellent programmer Y is there as well and lri lri is the one who's not limited by the technical details so he's from saes so um few words about Symbio so it's um we are basically a global company having like 1,300 plus guys and um we're serving clients from a small one one man and dog company client into a bigger bigger
global companies but sort of um basically most of us are excited about the technology so here's an example what we like to do so so basically um our team they they were aiming to do a kin world record having the biggest mobile W world and they were lending the the phones from Microsoft Finland they had 144 uh phones there working as a one Pig wall so we we just few weeks ago got a kinos worlder in in that space okay but let's go to the the actual topic so so why would anybody develop for for Windows Phone at the moment so I because it's it's fair to
say that the market share is is not that significant uh the platform as such is is not kind of the leader in in technology wise actually they they in some areas they are lacking behind the UI and usability concept is interesting that's that's true and they also the kind of a market potential is great but at the moment why would anybody develop a Windows phone so at least there are few reasons so so basically the development tooling and all the all the environments and such they are free they are being developed over over many years by Microsoft and there there's a kind of a big investment on on those tools and to make them such that that almost anybody can use them also the documentation that they are nicely collected professionally maintained and and and you can get a lot of uh support
in that space so I think it's a big big Advantage well basically if you're developing for Windows oneone you can also uh develop for various other sources so so basically the Frameworks are are such that that you can easily create a code that runs in in multiple devices and then sort of Microsoft is is a kind of introducing Technologies into a wider space and the the the mobiles they haven't been on the on the focus area for a long time so it's really the the combination of of the Technologies and then how you can combine and create new Solutions around it so they they have uh for example uh possibilities of of
connecting with different Cloud Technologies you have a suitable stacks and apis to do it and there are also ways to man uh monetize the data sales and and you can also have a data as a as a source of your Revenue then one thing at the moment is that it's it's clearly something that will stay for a while so so Microsoft is is investing heavily so um they they are spending like 8.7 billion dollars in a year for R&D so it's a like two to three times compared to Google for example so so they will make sure that they'll the technologies that they are supporting will remain there okay so I guess most of you saw
today some some announcements about the cooperation with Microsoft and and Al the university I think that's one good local example here in Finland how how Microsoft is planning to spend the uh their money they are supporting the universities and they're supporting individual companies so um we have a strong and long cooperation with Microsoft and I think sort of uh there are also other ways of of getting a support monetary support whenever you uh porting your services or creating your services to their platforms so I think that's one plus and one one thing to be considered okay so I'm I'm not going to talk about the first mover Advantage so let's let's talk about it later because it's something that's clearly splitting the opinions okay so soon so we we have been
uh developing for multiple operating systems also in the mobile space uh we have experienced more experience probably in terms of the projects from from other than Windows Phone environment but we've been doing also some Windows phone games lately and and basically it's been a board thing so we have a suitable model to board for all the kind of existing games and we can also create new ones and um some some things from our developers and from our development team is that they they feel that sort of the Frameworks that they're easy to learn all the tools and and such they are easy to learn like said you can get the documents um then then the development speed is fast so so basically you don't need to create the the kind of a functions to to put pixels on screen and so on so you can have the high enough abstraction level to enable rapid
development and then then it it can handle handle all kinds of uh content natively so you don't need to write your own own code for it and then the negative thing is of course that if if you have a lot of code in C++ for example then the ReUse is not always that is okay so so I was told to have like 20 minutes so I've been squeezing it down all the time and then chis said that he'll be happy if I can do it in 10 so um last thing is that sort of uh I think since we have bunch of nerds we are also going to have a always fun and and we will be launching a challenge so who will be the fastest Windows Phone development team and uh this this will be happening in gold operation for
example with Microsoft guys and and we are already practicing so stay tuned and and come visit our web pages during this week this week there will be more information about the challenge okay that was very that was very compact go so short um thank you so much that was that was uh that's really cool really interesting one one question that is going fast now scary uh one question I have um I I'll thr a second Scot but what if you're if you are getting a top 25 game or top top 10 game on Windows phone at the moment what sort of numbers can you could you expect as developer compared to with ir you know is it still respectable money top of the charts or I I think this I don't find if you're looking into statistics for the for the marketplace for Windows one at the moment so uh
the curves are really going up they're going up faster than for example the Android market so so and I'm expecting them to go up even faster during the during the second half of this year so uh I won't give you any exact figures now but it's growth is going fair enough okay has anybody else got any questions about talking for Windows Phone yes there a gentleman there in SEC oh you going make me run aren't you see this it's better I'll be a short question yeah sure uh so as you mentioned you can't really like reuse C++ code or any like native code on on on Windows phone so uh I mean I'm guessing that you're not really saying that people should abandon Android and iOS to go to Windows but so how how do you sort of uh respond to like uh needs for doing crossplatform to development
well um let's start with the crossplatform one so um clearly uh clearly for example HTML 5 has a role there so and then kind of I think the that is the direction that that there will be less native Parts less Parts dependent on the operating system and that that is the general Trend but but when it's the right time to have a full for example HDML 5 implementation it it won't be yet so it will be later cool any more questions uh no BR thank you thank you so much you can have a round of applause again please for filler thank you
The development landscape for Windows Phone in 2012 presents a strategic opportunity for mobile developers despite the platform’s smaller market share compared to industry leaders. While the platform faces challenges regarding UI maturity and the difficulty of porting legacy C++ code, it offers significant advantages in development efficiency. Microsoft’s robust, mature tooling and high-quality documentation allow for rapid application creation, enabling developers to reach high levels of abstraction without needing to manually manage low-level functions.
The platform is bolstered by Microsoft’s massive annual research and development investment, which exceeds that of major competitors, signaling a long-term commitment to the ecosystem. This financial backing extends to the developer community through local partnerships, university collaborations, and monetary support for porting services. Furthermore, the integration of cloud technologies and diverse monetization APIs provides developers with multiple revenue streams, including data-driven models.
Market trends indicate that Windows Phone is experiencing rapid growth, with adoption curves currently outpacing those of the Android market. While native code reuse remains a hurdle, the industry is trending toward cross-platform solutions, with HTML5 emerging as a key technology to reduce operating system dependency. Ultimately, the platform serves as a viable, growing environment for developers who prioritize efficient development cycles and access to a well-supported, long-term technological infrastructure.
