These regulations aim to foster a more transparent and diverse competitive ecosystem. PGL's tournament announcements are part of its compliance with these new rules.
PGL has announced its competitive calendar for Counter-Strike 2 ranked tournaments spanning 2025 and 2026. This initiative aligns with new licensing requirements established by developer Valve, which take effect in 2025 to foster a more transparent and diverse competitive ecosystem. The organizer has committed to a total investment of $17 million across 10 distinct events held in various international locations, including Argentina, Romania, Kazakhstan, Serbia, China, Brazil, and Spain.
Each of the 10 tournaments features a substantial prize pool of $1.25 million, matching the scale of traditional Counter-Strike 2 Majors. The financial commitment extends beyond prize money, as PGL will provide $450,000 in hospitality support per event to cover travel, accommodations, food, and practice facilities for participating teams. The tournament structure for these events consists of a 16-team Swiss system group stage followed by a single-elimination playoff bracket, utilizing best-of-three matches for most stages and a best-of-five format for the finals.
The schedule includes four events in 2025 and six in 2026, with PGL serving as the primary organizer for most, while acting as the official media partner for the Perfect World-led event in China. By announcing these plans well in advance, PGL aims to demonstrate its commitment to the evolving regulatory landscape of professional Counter-Strike 2. The organization has indicated that additional developments for the 2025-2026 calendar may be revealed in the future.
