Polish Agency for Enterprise Development
This revenue is driven by an export-oriented business model.
The Polish game industry has matured into a formidable global force, characterized by a sophisticated, export-oriented business model that prioritizes premium PC and console development. As of 2022, the sector supports 494 active studios and employs over 15,000 professionals, generating €1.286 billion in annual revenue. While the number of studios has plateaued, the industry is undergoing a strategic consolidation phase, shifting toward larger team sizes and high-budget productions. This growth is underpinned by a robust educational pipeline, with 52 universities now offering specialized degree programs, and a diverse talent pool that increasingly relies on international recruitment to address labor shortages.
The industry’s success is defined by its ability to capture global market share, with 75–90% of sales originating from international markets, particularly the United States, China, and Western Europe. Poland currently holds the second-highest share of titles on Steam’s global wishlist, underscoring its influence in the premium gaming space. While large-scale AAA studios drive significant revenue, the ecosystem remains highly diverse, featuring a strong contingent of boutique indie developers and specialized outsourcing firms. These entities excel in niche genres such as simulators, horror, and survival titles, frequently leveraging advanced technologies like Unreal Engine 5 to maintain a competitive edge.
Despite the industry's global prominence, the domestic Polish market remains largely detached from local production, relying heavily on foreign digital distribution platforms. Nevertheless, the sector continues to outperform broader global market trends, achieving 11% to 15% year-on-year growth. By balancing a focus on original intellectual property with a thriving external development and publishing hub, the Polish game industry has solidified its position as a vital, internationally integrated node in the global digital entertainment economy.
