Gamecity Hamburg
Octofox Games officially launched its cooperative adventure title into Early Access. Daedalic Entertainment provides publishing support for the release.
Octofox Games, a Hamburg-based studio, launched its cooperative adventure game Wild Woods into Early Access on Steam on December 9, 2024, with Daedalic Entertainment publishing. The announcement, issued by Gamecity Hamburg, the city's games industry support initiative, celebrates the release as a milestone for a studio that has grown from student beginnings into a commercial developer.
Wild Woods is a couch and online co-op game for up to four players, who control heroic cats defending their cart from dangerous thieves in a whimsical forest. Cooperation is central to survival, and day and night cycles introduce varying challenges. The Early Access build is available now, while a full 1.0 release is planned for 2025/2026 with additional biomes, gameplay elements, and updates.
The studio's background illustrates the regional funding pipeline Gamecity Hamburg promotes. Octofox Games formed among former students of HAW Hamburg and won the Best Newcomer Student Award at the German Developer Award in 2019. In 2020 it was among the first recipients of Gamecity Hamburg's relaunched Prototype Funding program, which supported early development of the project.
The surrounding page also lists other Gamecity Hamburg activities through 2026, including Games Lift incubator applications offering five teams 15,000 euros each plus workshops and mentoring, Prototype Funding calls, Road to gamescom, the Portside Game Assembly on June 25–26, 2026, and releases from other local studios such as Overhype Studios and gameXcite. These items underscore Hamburg's active ecosystem of funding, events, and publishing, with Daedalic Entertainment as a prominent local publisher.
