Japan represents 33% of total app installs, and the United States accounts for 30%.
The Nintendo Switch Online companion app reached a significant milestone in September 2018, surpassing five million total downloads across iOS and Android platforms. This figure represents approximately 25 percent of the console’s global install base, which stood at 20 million units as of June 2018. The data, derived from Sensor Tower Store Intelligence estimates, highlights the impact of the official Nintendo Switch Online service launch on September 18, 2018, which served as a primary catalyst for user acquisition.
Geographically, the adoption of the companion app is concentrated in Japan and the United States, which account for 33 percent and 30 percent of total installs, respectively. Platform distribution shows a preference for Android, with 60 percent of users obtaining the app via Google Play, while the remaining 40 percent utilized the Apple App Store.
The official launch of the online service triggered a 76 percent week-over-week increase in global downloads, with approximately 123,000 new installs recorded during the launch week compared to 70,000 the week prior. Growth was particularly pronounced in the United States, which saw an 89 percent surge in downloads, while Japan experienced a 77 percent increase. Although the app had been available since July 2017, these figures demonstrate that the introduction of the paid online subscription model successfully incentivized a substantial portion of the existing console user base to integrate the mobile companion tool into their gaming experience.
