Revenue reached $9.4 billion, a 7.7% increase year-over-year. Net profit rose by 17.9% to $2.74 billion.
Nintendo’s financial results for the first nine months of fiscal year 2024, covering the period from April 1 to December 31, 2023, demonstrate sustained growth in revenue and profitability. The company generated ¥1.4 trillion, or approximately $9.4 billion, representing a 7.7% year-over-year increase. Operating profit rose by 13.1% to $3.1 billion, while net profit grew by 17.9% to $2.74 billion. These results highlight a strong international presence, with 78.7% of total revenue originating outside of Japan, led by the Americas at 43.9%.
Hardware and software performance remains a primary driver of these figures. While total Nintendo Switch hardware sales for the nine-month period declined by 7.8% to 13.74 million units, the OLED model saw a 6.2% increase in sales. The console’s lifetime sales reached 139.3 million units, maintaining its position as the third best-selling console in history. Digital sales continue to gain momentum, rising 11.7% year-over-year to account for 48.1% of total revenue. Additionally, the ecosystem expanded its reach, with the number of annual paying users growing to 122 million.
Software performance was bolstered by significant first-party releases. Super Mario Bros. Wonder achieved 11.96 million units sold within its first two months, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom reached 20.28 million units, securing its place as the second best-selling game of 2023. Despite a slight 4.7% decrease in total game sales volume compared to the previous year, the company’s top-tier titles continue to drive substantial engagement and revenue, reinforcing the stability of the current hardware cycle.
