NEXON Co.
Nexon demonstrated stable financial growth during the first quarter of 2014, reporting revenue of 47,491 million yen and operating income of 21,171 million yen. These figures represent year-on-year increases of 7.0 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively. This performance was primarily underpinned by robust activity in the Korean market, led by the success of FIFA Online 3 and the mobile title Legion of Heroes, complemented by consistent royalty contributions from Dungeon&Fighter in China.
Despite this positive start, the company anticipates a contraction in operating margins for the first half of 2014. This projected decline is attributed to a strategic shift in the geographical composition of revenue toward regions with lower margins, coupled with rising expenditures related to personnel and royalty obligations. Due to ongoing market volatility, management has limited its financial guidance to a six-month outlook, signaling a cautious approach to near-term profitability.
To bolster shareholder value and optimize capital structure, the Board of Directors initiated several corporate actions in May 2014. These measures include the issuance of 1.83 million stock options to key directors and the authorization of a share buyback program. The buyback, scheduled to run through mid-August 2014, targets the acquisition of up to 12.5 million shares or 10 billion yen. These initiatives reflect a broader effort to manage capital efficiency while navigating the challenges of an evolving global gaming landscape.
