NEXON Co.
Nexon’s Q2 2026 earnings report outlines the company’s ongoing strategic transformation, which prioritizes cost management, the elimination of low-margin projects, and the expansion of core franchises through new, scalable content models. Despite a broader contraction in the global gaming industry, the company reported revenue of ¥121.1 billion and operating income of ¥31.3 billion, both exceeding internal forecasts. This performance was largely driven by the MapleStory franchise, which achieved 63% year-over-year growth, and the continued contribution of ARC Raiders, which has surpassed 16.3 million units sold since its October 2025 launch.
The company’s financial strategy emphasizes capital efficiency and shareholder returns. Following a divestiture that generated significant gains, Nexon ended the quarter with ¥842 billion in cash. Consequently, the company announced a special dividend of ¥415 per share, totaling approximately ¥324 billion, alongside regular dividend and buyback programs. This commitment aligns with a long-term goal of maintaining a minimum return on equity of 10% while funding future growth initiatives.
Operational focus remains on leveraging established intellectual property to penetrate new markets and demographics. By applying the MapleStory model—which utilizes franchise extensions like idle games and user-generated content platforms—to the Dungeon&Fighter franchise, Nexon aims to re-engage lapsed users and attract new players. The company is also diversifying its portfolio through strategic partnerships, such as the Korean service of Overwatch, and a robust pipeline of upcoming titles scheduled for late 2026 and 2027. While the transition to these new services involves higher revenue-linked costs, management expects these investments to drive sustained long-term profitability and global expansion.
