NetEase’s sci-fi battle royale title, Cyber Hunter, achieved significant early momentum following its global release on April 22, 2019. Within its first two weeks, the game surpassed 5 million worldwide installs across the Apple App Store and Google Play. This performance highlights a strong market entry, particularly in Japan, which emerged as a critical region for the game’s initial growth.
The Japanese market contributed approximately 1.1 million of the total downloads during this two-week window. This figure notably outperformed the launch period of Knives Out, another NetEase battle royale title that has historically dominated the Japanese mobile gaming sector. During its own first 14 days in Japan, Knives Out recorded approximately 980,000 installs. While Cyber Hunter shows promise in user acquisition, its early monetization remains modest, with $350,000 in global player spending compared to the substantial lifetime revenue generated by its predecessor.
These findings are based on Store Intelligence data, which tracks mobile application performance metrics. The analysis focuses on the initial 14-day post-launch period for the global mobile gaming market, with specific emphasis on the competitive landscape within Japan. While Cyber Hunter has demonstrated a faster initial adoption rate than Knives Out in the Japanese market, the long-term commercial trajectory of the title remains to be seen as it attempts to replicate the significant financial success of NetEase’s established portfolio.
