Create free accounthello and welcome to Pocket Gamer disease youtube channel this is one of our monetize videos this is where we go in depth into a free-to-play mobile game and have a look at the monetization I'm not just that also looking at some of the retention and kind of tactics and some of just the user experience the flow that kind of stuff so as you can see here we have come to us well known Korean publisher and developer and the game wonder tactics full name and legend of heroes one of tactics so we get an idea from that there's gonna miss the hero can I think I mean the here I think is very big has been for a year and then we can also see art style so very typically kind of a kind of super deformed big eyes everything a bit cutesy which kind of appeals some people doesn't appeal to others I guess is a bit more niche than maybe some of the other kind of art styles that we see so
okay we've got a bit of loading stuff going on here a lot of these games lots of things been downloaded so here we go global release event it's trying to get us to buy some stuff but we have this not a thing that shows again today okay daily bonus of course pretty standard in free to play games now should every all games usually have daily bonuses give us a bit of a reward for coming back and start a support kit again this is kind of interesting this is a something we would have to buy so we get a here three-star tart home from some other things like full star weapon it's not got any pricing on here but I'm obviously is a thing to buy this is a free-to-play game will you buy things so I've been playing this game a little bit and want a vast I'm at some level for you can see in the top left hand corner we can see a fairly um I mean not to
know kind of it so not add nuts lot of 2 i'm sorry thought I collapse down that menu but it doesn't um I've seen user interfaces are worse than this it's kind of all pretty much on one screen it's not too flashy it's keeping in with the kind of art style so these three these over 5 carats six characters in the middle are characters i play in the Hat using the games the character I can use 5 in my squad at any one time we've got a few kind of the usual I guess stuck around we've got news to notice this is something no blooming Emory so that's a lot of stuff there don't probably need to understand know about that event in box support starters now that the monthly doing that but I thought that would collapse then what's doing okay so there's a new user package there some things I can spend some money on so i'm a new user until I'm level 20 i think would be a long time before
youth level plenty ok so then a bottom we've got a bit more I guess that's good you know what that star wars for oh yes so this is my um this is kind of what we do maybe go through a bit of this search for we play the game like a lot of these kind of games it's not card battle game per se Bay is kind of based on this kind of card type stuff where you get characters level them up so we can get a normal heroes is just a random randomized kind of thing I can get a one to five star hero what do we think we're going to get probably not five star hero although be some people will get five to hear from this random thing they've got a two star hero I've already got her so they'll use link see another eight minutes or I can use a hundred hearts which I don't have so here we go into the different currencies week see if you go to the top of the screen we have some energy there we've got 25 energies should be limited over 18 bug over-subscribed at the moment there's 10 of 10 whatever those cross battle things
are then it's a gold so I've got really that's quite confusing there's a big gap between the number of gold and the gold symbol and how many I've got any actually sometimes confuses me and i think i've got almost 12,000 of the of the rainbow gems which a bit more valuable i tote only of 232 and I have none of the hard currency the blue gem right the top but i can use with my rainbow gems I've got I can get a luxury hero so we can see here it's abnormal hero which has arranged 125 and get luxury hero which I have arranged 326 ok so I'm going to use up some of that currency going to see you're going to get here good hope for a four-star I guess where we've got a three star there we go so I've got Luna what is she doing some attacking ninja type character ok and if I had a thousand i could get 11 and if I had any of these Scrolls I could you know we can kind of get the idea if I have these
better Scrolls I could you know get rarer and rarer characters money so i can i can change some of my rainbow gems into gold these ok so we know what these frozen our fire hero scrolls water earth so there's a usual elemental thing going on here oh that's always good to have others so some boosters some energies and XP kind of boosters to them so so far so good we can go and look at the hit some of the heroes then it's gonna is it going to work this hard to stop it's crashed wonderful so you can get up again still seems to be working ok ok so that was what crash she's really busy can you come back later yeah but we want to look at that one so here we have all the heroes that I've got so a whole bunch of them is the tart someone should
check that Venetian named Sam he's my most pav one he's a level 30 this is a poor character I didn't I kind of I think everyone gets him really so increases the accuracy of random allies let me see the different kind of skills this one's got an ice spear at X enemy got this one a frost Wraith this one's another healing one heels allies in your row tech ok and you pair up our heroes so let's maybe so as ever you can I can shoot he rose to pair them up so let's try this one here that's the target as she I guess so you use one of these ones as a material the material gets used up and costs a bit of gold it may not even work so kind of random thing mandamus is very important now it failed to waste of time try this one I wonder if this work so
much this kind of failure thing I know it's kind of quite big in Asia I just don't think Weston once is kind of go for that today this is lower level I think a high level maybe but when it's just I now so we've done a bit of that so it's actually going to the game now in these this type of game the gameplay is not really so important and always it's the metagame it tends to be the thing that drives people forward so so I'm on the third level here or the third kind of section I mean see typical thing you play through a new three-star to kind of unlock more things so I'm going to use up some energy gives up three C minor G I don't think it down a little bit of them so do be do so this is my kind of a formation thing going on eating see there's a grid of like a three-by-three grid at the top here we can see we've got a speed how fast it's
going to go and then there's an auto so I can play with auto off and do it myself I can play with Auto skill and if i unlock everything I can I can play fully auto as well but this is the first my play this levels and complex one fully auto but the skills are basically the power up so we can see if you see for each of my heroes they have different kind of move so the red ones are attack moves and the green ones are defensive moves he'll heels or your buffs and then that you can see there's a three-by-three grid on each of them and kind of shows where they do their moves and although some of them kind of a kind of random is actually showing randomness so it's not so helpful so with this one here I can attack the first column so you can see types of both those whatever those are like pokemon top houses and they say women basically not really doing anything else for the what we doing anything really okay so let me a little bit then we have three
left it better after tap the bun to start each battle so probably didn't talk that move again and so there's three kind of battles had to do to complete the whole mission the last one clearly will be a boss this is again I mean not a difficult game at this level you kind of liked pal for real obviously helped by the fact that you don't really necessarily know what's going on because it's all not all but ultimately so there we go we can see there the boss guy there so I really want something I want this cross one here that's going to target kind of all four of them May's forest that makes me get sleep that one you can go and everyone so this one is flashing so there you go okay wipe them out so there we go so we see you a bit the tactics going on in on a lot because it's all a lot was automatic I've want some stuff that's nice have I three started i have i've got some more
rewards I've got another little hero guy so we've got the world map I'll collect five five heroes what does that mean so if we go back on the ones I've kind of completed you can see clear now let you can't see if you had to battle to see this get the automatic thing so we bit off so in general while this is kind of stuff we've seen before so going in box I get some rewards it should be there's my daily reward and there's my day three gift so while this is using lots of the mechanics we've kind of seen before and have been popularized I've last year in Asian I guess we call them kind of mobile RPGs I think this is this is not the most honed one that we've seen I think the arts I will certainly appeal to some people but in general my feeling
is this doesn't this isn't doing anything particularly different in terms of the gameplay and is I mean I guess the nine three-by-three grid is kind of different but not sure that's adding particularly anything strategic to the experience and I have to say the author thing I find a little bit confusing and just like the UI is probably not as honed as it as it otherwise could be so um there we go that's going to want the tactics I do you think if people haven't played these this kind of RPG is a fairly straightforward and takes you through fairly easily there's not a complex amount going on in some of these games some of the ones am so now I've been playing from Chinese developers tend to get very complex very quickly and and you're kind of just like totally lost in the kind of maelstrom of menus and tapping and things like that and particularly when you get to RPGs and character and and kind of leveling up items and equipment and stuff that can get very complex but uh yeah I mean that
that's it really I think with all these free play games definitely worth downloading them and having a quick going and seeing what appeals to you you only in a sense spending your time to go through the first couple levels and of course don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel so we play a lot of these free to play mobile games and try try to make sense of them as much as we can so them yep don't forget to subscribe and I hope to see you and hope to see you soon
Wonder Tactics, a free-to-play mobile RPG developed by Com2uS, utilizes a super-deformed, cutesy art style to target a specific niche within the mobile gaming market. The game follows a standard mobile RPG structure, focusing on hero collection, squad management, and progression through a series of combat encounters. The core gameplay loop involves assembling a squad of five heroes on a three-by-three grid, where players engage in turn-based battles that feature both manual and automated skill execution.
The monetization strategy relies on familiar industry mechanics, including daily login bonuses, starter support kits, and randomized hero acquisition through various tiers of scrolls and currencies. Players can spend premium currency to summon heroes, with higher-tier scrolls offering better odds for rare characters. The game also incorporates a character enhancement system where players use lower-level heroes as materials to upgrade their primary squad, a process that includes a risk of failure—a mechanic more common in Asian markets than in Western ones.
From an analytical perspective, the game does not introduce significant innovations to the mobile RPG genre. While the three-by-three grid formation adds a layer of tactical positioning, the overall experience is heavily reliant on automated gameplay, which can lead to confusion regarding the strategic depth of combat. The user interface is described as functional but unrefined, occasionally lacking clarity in currency displays and menu navigation. Ultimately, the game serves as a straightforward entry point for players new to the genre, though it lacks the complexity or unique features required to distinguish itself from the broader landscape of established mobile RPG titles.
