LGD Gaming Ends Five-Year Partnership With PSG for Dota 2 Team

Chinese esports organization LGD Gaming has officially concluded its five-year partnership with the French football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The collaboration, which began on April 19, 2018, resulted in the formation of the co-branded Dota 2 team, PSG.LGD. Following the dissolution of this agreement, the team will revert to competing under the LGD Gaming banner in global Dota 2 tournaments, including the upcoming The International 2023 in Seattle.

The partnership was highly successful in competitive terms, establishing the team as a dominant force in the Dota 2 landscape. Over the course of the five-year tenure, the organization secured approximately $18 million in total prize money. Notable achievements included second-place finishes at The International 2018 and The International 2021, which yielded $4.08 million and $5.2 million in winnings, respectively. The team also fostered individual talent, such as Wang “Ame” Chunyu, who remains the highest-earning esports player in China with $3.9 million in career prize earnings.

While the specific reasons for the termination of the partnership remain undisclosed, the split occurs just one month prior to the start of The International 2023. Despite the end of this specific venture, Paris Saint-Germain maintains its presence in the esports sector through a separate co-branded naming partnership with Hong Kong-based Talon Esports, which competes in the League of Legends Pacific Championship Series as PSG.Talon. LGD Gaming continues to operate as a top-tier competitor in the Chinese Dota 2 scene.
