The decision follows a sustained decline in revenue for the mobile title. All in-app purchases were ceased on December 19, 2022.
King has announced the permanent closure of its mobile title, Crash Bandicoot: On the Run, citing a sustained decline in revenue. The developer ceased all in-app purchases on December 19, 2022, and plans to terminate all game services on February 16, 2023, at which point the application will be removed from digital storefronts and rendered unplayable.
The game experienced a strong initial market entry following its launch on March 25, 2021, achieving over 21 million downloads within its first four days and generating $1.2 million in its first month. Despite this rapid adoption, performance metrics faltered shortly thereafter. Monthly revenue peaked at approximately $805,773 in April 2021 and subsequently entered a downward trend. Between January 1, 2022, and November 30, 2022, the title generated only $475,082. Over its total lifespan, the game accumulated 60.4 million downloads and roughly $4 million in total revenue.
Geographically, the United States served as the primary market for the title, accounting for 46% of total player spending and 14% of all downloads. Other significant markets included the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia for revenue, and Brazil and Mexico for user acquisition. The decision to shutter the project follows a period of reduced support and updates, which had previously led to community speculation regarding the game's future despite earlier assurances from customer support that the title would remain active.
