In January 2023, the Kansas City Pioneers paused WCB Season 5. This decision was made due to financial difficulties and an inability to fund the league.
Gamers First (G1), an esports organization founded by former NFL player Kenny Vaccaro, has acquired the Women’s Car Ball League (WCB) from the Kansas City Pioneers. This acquisition follows a period of financial instability for the league, which had been forced to pause its fifth season in January 2023 due to funding challenges. While the specific financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, G1 has committed to injecting immediate capital to settle outstanding debts and facilitate the resumption of league operations.
The acquisition marks a strategic effort to stabilize and expand the professional Rocket League circuit for female competitors. G1 plans to relaunch Season 5 on March 18, 2023, featuring a structured format of open, qualifier, and main events across North American and European regions. The league schedule includes 23 events leading up to a championship tournament in the fall.
Beyond the immediate relaunch, G1 intends to implement a long-term growth strategy for the WCB. The organization’s roadmap includes the establishment of a formal player development program, the pursuit of new corporate sponsorships, and the introduction of in-person LAN events. Additionally, G1 plans to increase the league's visibility through a content series focused on player profiles, aiming to build a sustainable ecosystem for women in professional esports.
