GOOD MORNING, MATT. A
GOOD MORNING, WILL.
GOOD MORNING TO ALL OF YOU.
Welcome to GAMES FOR BREAKFAST, THE ONLY INTERNET TALK SHOW. WE TALK ABOUT THIS WEEK'S gaming and tech news, but also answer the pressing question, who is Sue?
ALMOST EVERY STORY WE HAVE TODAY IS dealing with sue this or sue that. Or I guess they can use it sort of as an action word and say someone got sued. But then is Sue the one doing the suing? Can the suing of the sued? Is that past tense when you've interacted with Sue?
I feel like Sue must be a professional wrestler. That must be her catchphrase, right? Like she drops the elbow on someone AND SHE'S LIKE, "OH YEAH, YOU JUST GOT SUED." RIGHT? LIKE THAT'S GOT TO BE IT, RIGHT? That's got to be what it's about.
You know what? There's only one place I think we can figure this out truly, and that is in this book, How to Win
Nintendo Games 3. Um, I I I have this prompt today, Will, because I was at a friend's campfire, my friend Megan and Matt, and this was somehow, and they don't even know how, in their wood pile, and we put we lifted logs off of the wood pile to throw on the fire and revealed this book. this classic book by Jeff Rogan, prolific writer of a ton of stuff. If you look up Jeff Rogan's Wikipedia page, there's four of these, but like he's done non-fiction, he's done fiction, he's done a bunch of He wrote the Mortal Kombat movie novel adaptation. Like there's a bunch of weird stuff. Um, can I can I read can I read the back of this book very quickly?
A reading from the book of Nintendo.
Okay. The first lines in in red up top here says, "Nailed by any ninja lately?"
Oh, whoa. I
I thought this was going to be a little bit less spicy, but here we are. Kick, punch, and leap your way to video game victory, then show your friends how it's
done. No one knows Nintendo games like Jeff Roven. And in this allnew companion to his two previous best sellers, he takes some of the mystery, but none of the challenge out of many of today's most formidable Nintendo games. In addition, Tenjun's Super Sprint Games Not authorized by Nintendo is also covered. Train for Triumph with his ver vital tips, including passwords and secret codes, how to regain powers, weapons, and lives, important updates on all your favorite games, and much, much more. Perfect. Perfect the power punch at top the big rig in Bad Dudes. Make every flying drop kick count in Ninja Gaiden. LEARN MORE FASCINATING TIPS ABOUT NINJA Turtles using the special guide. Make your reflexes lightning fast. Your eyes eagle sharp and your scores totally unbelievable. I want to say one other thing about this wonderful book that I am reading currently cover to cover.
Uhhuh.
Because it is unofficial guide not endorsed by Nintendo. There are no pictures in this gaming
guide. It is just text. [screaming] It is awesome. I am so glad we didn't accidentally burn it. [laughter] Sorry, I just had to go on the diet tribe.
No, no, that's that's very important.
And listen, maybe as we do the stories of the day, we'll find some answers in this book from 1990. Okay. All right. Well, uh I guess the the most important thing to to note here uh before we get started, right, we do have one note is that uh our Kickstarter just wrapped. Our Kickstart like lit and when we say just wrapped, we mean literally moments before we started recording. Um uh thank you so very much to our community.
We wrapped with $96,169.
Nice. that last dollar to make that possible was by friend of the show, Lurker, uh making it the perfect palendrome. Uh absolutely phenomenal. Uh thank you so much for the support. Uh if you would just watch the previous live streams, we've said that a bunch, but we just thought we'd say it one more time.
Yes. All right. Uh, I think that means that it is time to uh dive into today's story before all of the water pours out of it because uh today's main course is about leaks. [music] This is the sound of what's happening with Grand Theft Auto 6.
And our audience numbers just plummeted because a whole bunch of people have to go to the bathroom. Thanks.
There we go.
Thanks, Matt. Yep. Uh, okay. So, there's
Oh, boy.
Yeah, there's been there's been some leaks uh over at of Grand Theft Auto stuff. So this sucks. This this is like not like Okay,
I want to put I want to put something out very clearly. I don't appreciate what Rockstar is doing with no discs. I don't appreciate many things Rockstar has done with Union Busting. I also now, you know, you also have to realize Rockstar is not a monolith and there are thousands of people I I believe that work there and that have been working on this game forever. And um any sort of leak or or ransoming is uh completely antithetical from what uh will actually get any meaningful change in the industry. Um, so the story here is a bit
wild because the stated goals of said leakers um are outside of their actions towards them. I would say overall thing like the ideas are things that I would support. Not the actual leak itself. That is awful for a million different ways we're going to talk about
but like um essentially well break down what is exactly happening currently.
Yeah. So, uh, IGN's got the the the the summary, um, which, uh, I'm I'm pulling up now. Um, but the the short version is that uh we've now had four consecutive days of information leaks
um uh from Grand Theft Auto 6 by a singular source who has access to
to what what seems like not only footage but possibly an old build due to their
last drop which essentially showed uh the character of Jason I believe shooting the word leak into a wall.
Yeah.
Like drawing it with bullet holes.
Yeah. So, um, one one leak not good, two leaks bad, three leaks very bad. We're at sort of like disastrous here for Grand Theft Auto 6 and for uh this because this is just ongoing at this point. Um but the let's see there are uh the original one um the original leak was on the 18th of August and was gameplay videos and the map. The 19th was uh taser gameplay and a cutscene. Um the there was a second one on the 19th showing knife combat and there was one
on the 20th um that was plane gameplay and there's one this morning even uh that uh contained some gameplay from uh driving a super car. So, this is like broad-reaching and a very clear attempt by a singular group or individuals
um to force Rockstar to take monetary action, to take like real legal action in a specific direction. Um
I have a feeling the leakers will get to know Sue very very well.
Yes. Uh, the watermark on the most recent video is uh, higher market cap equals more leaks. But leaks is spelled L E KS. So perhaps they just want to make a soup. I don't know.
Yeah, maybe it's soup based.
Yeah. Well, sue soup, right? It's all there, right? Um,
it
Yeah,
it just like
So, so there's a couple things here. There's a list of demands uh that this leaker has put out in their little manifesto thing uh that says there's three of them I believe. The demands are no more digital pre-orders, no more selling DLC already contained on base game files and um and mandatory online failback states for single player components of games. Now, on paper, those are all fine. Uh, the first two are a little weird, like are are like minor. Okay, let's go. Let's break it down. Um, no more digital pre-orders. The funny thing about digital pre-orders is they're kind of useless to begin with. I don't know why anyone would ever digitally pre-order something. Um, other than the I think maybe what they want ended is like the predatory practice of like get the free car skin if you pre-order.
Let me offer a counter example.
Sure.
For large games, some online storefronts are not able to handle the load of day one digital purchases. Um, and so if there's no bonus attached or no early access attached, they can be quite useful for preventing store downtime. I will point you at the launches of both uh Slay the Spire 2 and um Silkong over the past year on Steam. Both of which have caused sto Steam store outages because they did not have pre-orders available and so Steam's checkout system could not handle the load there. And that's I am not excusing the practice of adding other stuff, right? Like there are some legitimate cases where systems are um amplified like systems are fortified by the presence of digital pre-order.
Makes total sense.
Um the you know in my perfect world what that would look like is like hey a week before a game releases you can pre-order
it. There's no extra bonuses for doing so. Please do if you're going to to help the servers and we'll download the files onto your system early.
Exactly.
Um and
but that's not really what they're talking about here. And and and the last thing on that, right, just to just to make sure, um your refund timer uh starts when the game releases, not when you buy it, right? You can't like if they did that, right? Hey, you can get a refund like we don't start the clock until the game actually releases. So, you can't be punished for pre-ordering early into like, haha, we got you. You're outside the refund window, right? Or anything, right? Just just start the clock then and everything's above board, right? Yeah. Yeah. Uh, second thing being, uh, no more selling DLC already contained in the base game files. Uh, I like that too. The interesting thing there is with the, um, move to digital. That's gets even more a little bit uh, dicey. Anyway, again, these two things are not that they're not issues for some
people, but don't seem like a I I don't know. You can't judge what is important from one person to another, but like do not seem like they're risking the rest of their legal life to leak the most popular video game ever uh released probably um to get those two things done. Uh and then the third being the mandatory online failback uh state for single player components of any game. Uh that's something that um the uh stop killing games uh folks have been uh really you know trying for although they have disavowed this leaker as they should because they don't want to be have their name associated with uh this essentially damaging action that will not get anything done. All this does in my opinion uh is hurt people. Um there is a counterargument, not that I think it's going to make any meaningful change. Um what this is going to do is crunch
the teams at Rockstar that handle this kind of thing. At the end of the day, while Rockstar definitely wants to maintain control of the narrative, they even I believe a week from today they're going to have a thing for six hours on Netflix before it's on YouTube that's an extended play look or whatever, right? Um the uh but if we really are talking about like oh is this going to hurt GTA 6? I actually don't think it does. Like would there be people that were mad at story leaks or something like that? Oh sure. Would that be Rockstar's fault? No. So, like the methodology here doesn't make any sense. And and the the thing that I think tips the scale of, oh, I see what's really going on here is the fact that they're shilling a a memecoin
at the same time. And they're doing, I believe, like votes on what clip to release next based on how much of the memecoin you get or something like that, which is just the Skeviest Skevie thing from Skevie Town. Um,
that that that moment, right? Like, let's be really clear, right? So, you can have some some feelings about how this is being done and what the efficacy is. And the moment, the actual moment that the hackers indicate that they have a financial incentive to do this and are asking for money from people, all goodwill that might have been attributed to their actions and to the cause that they purport to represent is gone. Like that's it. That's they're done, right? There's no excusable way to say, "Ah, yes, buy our cryptocurrency scam, right? We're the good guys."
Yeah.
What? No. Stop it.
Cookie Clicker asks an interesting question. Do you think the least potentially damaged views on gameplay videos? Not really.
Uh, anyone who is hungry for information here, and it seems like the whole or a lot of the gaming world is, is just going to watch whatever comes out.
Yeah. Oh, I I love I love this uh this comment from Potato Elemental. Uh scammers trying to cosplay as activists.
Yeah. The the the interesting question here to me, and I know that uh stronger investigative and legal minds than my own will dig into this for a while, um is essentially where did they get this build?
Yep.
Uh there is some stuff. We have a bunch of different articles in the show notes. You can go back later and look at it. Um there are people trying to figure out exactly Yeah. Right. Uh people are trying to figure out exactly who could have done this. I believe the way that the the winds are blowing it
does not feel like it is someone actively at Rockstar. But that then leads to like you know this could be coming from a lot of different places and uh there are people obviously trying to figure out where they are coming from. I'm sure the people uh doing this uh think they're fairly uh safe or else they wouldn't be doing it.
Yeah.
But this does kind of to me of I won't say this is not to say technical inexperience. I think to pull something off like this you do have to be very technically savvy. Um I think social or real world savviness seems a little bit lapsed. This this reads to me like a person or a group of younger people. Not that that makes them it just feels like something like where it feels impulsive. It feels like it hasn't been thought through because any any way you look at this it look at like other leakers from stuff
from GTA 6 and I there's a whole different conversation about the severity of the punishment for the crime. Um, but Rockstar has sued into oblivion and essentially uh I'm trying to remember where they landed at this point, but like ruined the life of the first person who leaked stuff. Like I believe they were like due to court order like I think just stuck in a in a hospital prison.
It Yes, they were they were committed
in the UK, right? Like so so let's be very clear here. By the way, not defending Rockstar.
No,
Rockstar has done some heinous stuff.
Rockstar can be the victim of something, but also be a perpetrator of other things,
right? There does not have to be a good guy in every story, right? I've been watching uh the Riddic movies recently, which are a fantastic example of how there does not need to be a good guy in every story, right? Like
if your goal is to change the industry and bring about these changes, I understand why people want to take on Rockstar, but I agree with Matt that this is a shortsighted way to do it. Like
it it's it it will it will solve nothing.
Correct. and inevitably my guess is hurt the people doing the leaking at a scale unfathomable by them before their actions were done.
Correct.
Um and there's a lot of tragedy all around in that and there's blame to go around in a lot of different places too.
Yeah. Um, but like at the end of the day, this is my other thing. All this pain for so many people,
it's just going to advertise GTA 6 better,
right? Like I I think the the the truly interesting part is that this this leaker has failed spectacularly on every possible count. They have made themselves and their cause look like a fool. they have uh brought down the the like by doing it in this public public way and by flaunting it they have brought the eyeire of um legal institutions against themselves right they're on the wrong side of the law and it looks bad it just looks bad like I don't
I am all for um creative ways of protesting things,
right?
Um, but like the the I I truly believe no matter let's even let's even give a
incredible benefit of the doubt that this is started from an altruistic place. Uh it it's misinformed, it's misaligned, it's it misses the point. And Will, to your point, the second a memecoin comes into it, that's that's this group profiting off of a social cause that they're saying they're for.
Yep. Um, I I I might I might be ever so slightly willing to give them an ounce of of of leeway if what they said was, "You're selling this coin." um that allows you to do votes and all proceeds are going to help uh are are being donated to causes that benefit or union causes or to help with uh lobbying for the Stop Killing Games
initiative or like any of that, right? That might have been something that might have given them some leeway, but to say it's for a secret project, bro. Bro, that's just trust me. Like that's so much worse than
Yeah.
Uh uh oopsie. There's a leaker leaking GTA uh 6 footage and uh sort of cosplaying as a activist but really uh kind of shilling a memecoin for different reasons. Yep. That's kind of the the long and short of it. Uh I liked Bay of Shanganger who I put up before saying they were telling a co-orker about the leaks who pre-ordered the $100 and hadn't seen the leaks. Yeah, that's the other thing we are. So, anyone here who's watching this show is more plugged in than the average gamer that's going to make 90% of the profit for GTA 6.
Yes.
Um,
and and that is because GTA 6 is one of the games that escapes containment, right? It is so far outside the realm of incredibly plugged in, right? So, like if you're watching this stream, you probably know what Silkong is. You probably know what Slay the Spire 2 is.
You might even know what Mina the Hollower is, right? But so many people outside our sphere don't and the only video games that they know about are like I'm not kidding. FIFA, Madden, Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto because those are the things that escape containment in a major way.
Generic has a tinfoil hat take uh that's interesting though until proof of it would come out. My tinfoil hat theory is false flag for both advertise GTA 6 and try to discredit stop uh uh stop killing games. Um, it's almost too clever. I mean, the way the way that we find this out, weirdly, is if and when anyone gets arrested for this, if no one ever gets arrested for this and it kind of just goes away, we can dig more into that.
Yeah. I uh I think this just sucks though. Like especially because and this this is coming from a from a
from a a place of like this is an incredibly personal take that relies heavily on understanding how I have to like do my job for this show and like as someone who talks about video games on the internet. How dare they make up Grand Theft Auto 6 take more space in the industry before it's time? Like, bro, we have already scheduled all fall to not shut up about Grand Theft Auto 6 because it's all anyone's going to talk about for like the month around its release. Shut up about it. Like, I don't need it to be in the news cycle right now. I hate that we have to talk about it here because it's the most important news of the week, but like, shut up. there are other things to talk about
which we will I think the last thing I want to say which I just want to put this out there into the ether
what if so so Grand Theft Auto 6 is releasing at a time of year of somebody's lord 2026 right
y
online discourse poisonous as ever um people are raid to hate things on the internet do We think like no no no media property has been released that is this large to a community that I would say is this toxic ever before in human history. Even if this game is unabashedly somehow in some metric that we have no way of measuring 100% perfect uh IGN whatever, right?
IGN 10,000 or
10,000.
Uh do we think it can survive the discourse? Not that I mean it's going to print money. That's not the question. But will will the conversation be disappointment? And I It's such a bug bear that's been in
people's minds for ages. I'm curious. I'm curious if they can stick the landing because the GTA 6 can never be as good as the rabid fans idea of what GTA 6 has been built up over the past 10 years in their head.
Yep.
Like Silkong.
Yeah.
Yep. Al although this is probably less susceptible to it than Silkong because Silkong is three people, two and a half people.
Yeah. Uh it is shipping without online. So they're not I I don't even know. I don't think they've even said their plans for what the update for GTA online will be.
Um
it's shipping digital only on PlayStation only to start with.
There is no there is no PC port which cool. I got games to play.
Dog, I I agree with this take. I also think it's going to do it in a heartbeat. I think there's it's it's too ubiquitous and it's too hyped.
Even Even if word of mouth somehow tanks this thing and I don't think it's going to
Oh, it is on Xbox. Sorry, chat. Yes, it is on Xbox. I just don't consider Xbox to be the thing worth talking about anymore.
Yeah. Give Yeah.
thing. Uh, I think that I think that um they're still going to make their money back even on just initial sales. I think it's too it's too big.
Y
um anyway, that is the GTA 6 leak news. Uh I don't think this is going to help anybody. Um
important safety note. Oh yeah.
If I don't think anyone here is in this bucket, but in case you are and you're like a person who happens to hear this, do not download Grand Theft Auto 6. It's not out yet. There are malware packages disguised as Grand Theft Auto 6 like old school um Limewire style going around on the internet. Do not download Grand Theft Auto 6. It is not out yet. You
cannot get Grand Theft Auto 6. Don't don't don't be a dummy.
Yeah.
Just don't be a dummy. Okay. Thank you. This has been your problem. I don't think anyone here is going to be falling for that.
Yeah. No, I don't think they would either. But it bears saying, right, that like Yeah. Don't don't do that.
Hey, you know what? I think we should switch gears, Will. I think we should go into something that's a bit more uplifting.
I you know, I agree. I think that that means that it's time for some good news. Okay. Uh, first up on our good news stories. Is this going to work? It is good. It didn't work last week. Um, okay. So, we didn't have time to talk about this last week because we were already running long with patch.
Yes. There's been this long story between Stella Zacko, who's the uh former lead writer for Saber
uh Interactive, and the CEO of Saber Interactive um about their use of generative AI in one of their recent titles, which is Ride Share Simulator. Because if you know what's great about simulating stuff is is simulating stuff that no one really likes but you kind of have to use
Yeah. I love I love pretending to be I love laring being an Uber driver.
Yeah.
It's my favorite.
Yeah. Um, so
essentially what was going on is uh the CEO of Saber uh when when um uh Stella came out against uh an accusation of being
stimulator, not simulator. My apologies.
It's rid share stimulator.
Yeah, keep going. No, no, don't think about it. Stop thinking about it right now. Just keep going. [snorts] Uh uh my brain broke. Um the Okay, basically uh Stella accused the company of laying uh her off uh to basically have the game be written by AI. the CEO denied it and then came back with some pretty harsh stuff, including I don't know exactly what the phrasing was, but like saying that they didn't fire her for uh to replace with AI, but they but he wished they had or something like that, like accusing her of going after Clout and all that nonsense.
He also said he had to ask Claude who she was because he couldn't remember.
What a bad joke. Um,
what a terrible human. Well, so yes, but there is something nice about why this is a good news story. Um uh it turns out
that uh people in in again sometime this year uh can look at something they did realize it was wrong and apologize. Um essentially, and I know the text here is is hard to read, uh but that's you can look it up on Blue Sky. This is a Blue Sky post that Stella made. Uh essentially, uh she says that the CEO has uh reached out to her and um uh apologized and she's going to keep it private, but like and she doesn't like she doesn't take away anything that she said about how she feels about the situation, but the the the man in power who uh came at her hard and accused her of a bunch of things has since retracted those things and apologized.
Right. Um I think uh the world could use a lot more of that. Um I think that it is it doesn't excuse any actions that were done. However, well or the initial
actions I should say. Um and and Stella has accepted that apology for that element of this story. And I think um look everybody has flown off the handle. The internet makes it very dangerous to do so. Um, and I if the things played out the way that everything that the story sort of feels like, I don't condone anything that happened in the story. Um, but it is good when someone specifically in power realizes that they effed up that they come back and at least apologize and try to make good. even um uh CEO made a post on his LinkedIn page as well about like like a longer post about like the decision of of apologizing. Um yeah, so yes, there was there was a there was a public element to this. There was a longer private apology. And I also like chat is chat has a lot of
really good points about it. I'm not going to pull any of them in specific up, but like Chad's got a lot of really good points about this. I think it's very important that we remind people that we need to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good here. Like
apologizing is an option. Everything on the internet doesn't have to be dig your heels in harder.
Correct. Right. And so there's um you know this is good. Right. Okay. Is this the best way to do it? No. Obviously the best way to do it would have not to been the hor's hind parts to begin with. And the best thing, the very best thing would not would have been to not fire an incredibly competent, talented lead writer to try and replace her with an AI agent. Like
like there are so many ways that this could have gone better at so many points, but we need to laud people for making a and specifically, right? We're not overpraising. We're not saying it undoes any of the damage, but we need to
congratulate people when they make the step in the correct direction, right? So that we can positively reinforce, yes, you screwed up big time and no, we're still not going to buy your game, but you did make a step in the right direction. And for that, we are grateful, right, for that specific step. And it does not un undo the harm you've done.
An apology is not a fix for a problem. It is a stepping stone towards whatever you kind of do next. That's really what it is.
Um
I don't know. I thought this was a nice story. I was glad Will found it. Yep.
Um I had forgotten cuz we we was supposed to be on last week's but we had to cut some stuff for time. Um and I thought we had already talked about it. That's why I kind of jumped right in. But good good good catch.
All right. Um next up, yeah, y'all. Y'all hear about that? Kingdom Hearts
Coco Hearts 4.
Cocoa Hearts 4. Um
I I'm I'm I'm happy. I'm excited.
Yeah. So I am not admittedly um up on
any of the actual real Kingdom Hearts lore. Um Will and I have had a long running uh totally not gag where we actually are the orbiters of all things Kingdom Hearts lore. And um we've tied nearly every video game property into it in some way. And by we, I mean we just look at the tea leaves and see what's going on. Um,
this looks really interesting and cool. I love the the Cocoa World and the aesthetic there. I I think that um this is going to be I I'm very happy that Kingdom Hearts is still a thing because Kingdom Hearts might be even like of course it is very corporate. It is Square Enix and Disney. However, it is I also think maybe one of the weirdest corporate products.
Yeah. And that's borne out by its genesis in an elevator conversation.
Yeah.
Like
uh I I really It's funny. So, Will, how many of the Kingdom Hearts have you played?
Uh I have played one, two, and three bits of several others, but I've played all the mainline games. Uh because I don't own I have not gone into all of the completes and played all of the side games and everything.
Um
did were you when you watched the trailer I I know some people were hyped for characters whose names I do not know. Uh I know Donald, Goofy, and Mickey and Sora. Um but someone else showed up and people lost their mind. Like I think I was watching a stream of the trailer with that had a live audience and there were multiple characters that showed up and people lost their ish.
Yeah. A lot of uh so anyone you see in a big dark jacket, big big dark jacket, big dark hood that hides their face, right? That's the organization. Um and every
It's called the organization.
Yep. It's organization 13. It's a No. No. Matt, Matt, Matt, buddy, buddy, buddy. This is a JRPG.
But what if what if there's another
organization? Do they just do a different number?
Yeah.
Okay. That seems like a real heartless call, but it's fine. And we're moving on. Um [clears throat and laughter] the Can't believe you did that. Anyway, um yeah. Uh so everyone's got their favorite organization member. Everyone's got their favorite, you know, sad nobody, sad, right, story, whatever. Um their favorite one for whatever reason. So that's a big part of it. Um, but I think the biggest thing that a lot of people took away is that Mickey, uh, Donald, and Goofy are going to be real playable characters this time, which is kind of a big deal given that they haven't been. They've been like
they've been the side characters, right?
Well, yeah. Donald and Goofy have been side characters, and you can kind of control their AI with a complicated
venuing system and be like, "This is your priority." Um, and Mickey you've been able to use in specific circumstances. um as sort of like a one last chance mechanic.
I'm going to save you.
Oh. Oh boy.
Um uh but it looks like all three of them are going to be real playable characters, which is kind of cool because Donald Duck is canonically the most powerful mage in the entire world of Final Fantasy.
Insane.
Yeah. Which is great. I love that. Um, my favorite my favorite piece of Kingdom Hearts lore is that Goofy gets terrified when Donald tries to Zeta Flare someone, which means that Goofy has seen Donald Duck murder someone because literally anyone who's not an Endgame boss gets murdered by Zetaf Flare. Anyway, um I I'm excited. I think the art's really cool as well. I think all of the Coco stuff seems gorgeous. Yeah, it's like it
it looks unique like Coco does.
Yeah, it really feels like they're leveraging the fact that the Disney has really stepped up a lot of their like unique visual design stuff like Coco gets a lot of lift, a lot a lot of lift from being part of uh Deos Muertos, right? like it gets a huge amount of lift from this iconic Mexican culture and like all of the beautiful like sugar skull artwork and all of the the art that is associated with a frienda and like it's it's gorgeous. Um, and so I think they really chose well when they picked that to show off the game because they they also needed to show off something that wasn't like the stale like realworld thing where where like everyone's waiting the other size of shadow monsters pop out of the ground.
Yeah. Right. Exactly.
Um, so have they announced all the new worlds that are going to be in this game or not?
I don't think they've announced all of them. They have announced many of them. I believe we're getting we're obviously getting Coco. I believe we're getting um Encanto.
Yeah.
And I would be shocked if we didn't get Moana.
Yeah. Yeah. I have an idea. What if we went to this source and I just flipped it at a random time, a random thing to see what game
Sora and Co could invade in Kingdom Hearts 4?
Absolutely. Yeah, go for it. Was it Ninja Gaiden?
What if
Okay,
Goofy Donald and Am I Am I hiccoping?
No, you're good.
Oh, my stream is crapping out, so I just wanted to make sure. Yeah.
Uh, what if Goofy, Donald, and Sora went to the magical world
of Burger Time?
Of Burger Time. Amazing.
What would that look like?
Well, type it says it's a shoots and ladder climbing game. Uh, manufacturer is Data East under the license from Nintendo. So, I'm sure that the the big big mouse could get that. And your objective would be uh you're chef Peter Pepper and you're faced with a screen full of ladders and platforms. The ladders being covered with buns, hamburger patties, and lettuce. Your job is to drop them from the level to level until a hamburger is constructed at the bottom. The only problem is food foes chase you around the screen and their touch is deadly.
Amazing. that actually plays like a Kingdom Hearts level.
Yeah. Uh, by the way, the um Richard is correct. They they announced pins that happen to aesthetically look like Kingdom Hearts that also include ones that haven't been announced yet, including Zootopia. But that is like that's a next level like assumption.
Um, is my video still smooth for everybody?
You're still good. I
That's crazy because the the even though the bit rate says it's still good on my end, it's a new frame every four seconds. It's so behind.
Yep. I I you know, we've been there
people have been talking about YouTube hiccups. Uh but you look fine to me and I don't
Great. I'm I'm trying to think of a way to like actually because it is distracting. Um but I'm trying to think of a way to fix it on my end. I don't know how.
Yeah. No, I mean you can re re keyframe, but I don't know that that'll fix anything because you're not
Is that in the settings?
Uh right click your face, more stats, then key frame. More stats.
Click the stats page.
Show stats.
And then how far down on the list? Sorry everybody.
It should be towards the top actually.
Uh loudness info platform browser. Nah, I'll deal with it.
Okay,
we can keep going.
Yeah. Um, we would also be remiss when we mentioned Kingdom Hearts if we did not mention some sad news uh that goes
uh that we are uh mentioning here because it goes uh very well with Kingdom Hearts. Uh was there a slide with this?
No.
Okay. Um that uh Hayden Paniter, the uh original voice actress for Kyrie uh passed away uh over the week.
Um very tragic. She was 36. uh and the Kingdom Hearts community in particular has um had an outpouring of uh love and support for her work uh because Kingdom Hearts was very formative for a lot of people and Kyrie was a very formative character for an awful lot of people. Um and even though she hasn't voice acted the most recent Kingdom Hearts games, um she's still considered a beloved part of the franchise. Uh and that is uh very tough. Yeah, she also obviously has been in other, you know, Hollywood things. She's been in a bunch of the Scream movies. She was in uh Heroes, Save the Cheerleader, Save the World, and uh she
was uh in Until Dawn, which is where I kind of know her the most from.
She was also uh an incredibly important character in Remember the Titans, which
Yeah.
just a teeny tiny Hayden benedeer in Remember the Titans. Yeah.
Uh yeah. Okay.
Yeah.
Let us continue forward then.
All right. But you're going to have to do it because I it's literally been frozen on the I cannot see the stream. [laughter]
Okay. Sure. Okay. I can do this. Um it's ironic, of course, that this is happening while Matt is is having technical problems because that is in fact the very nature of our next uh story. It appears that silently behind the scenes, Blizzard is working on disconnect protection for players in a unique way. So, um, if you've ever played an MMO, you are familiar with the concept of someone
important to your raid disconnecting mid- raid. Most of the time, that means the pull is over. That means you're just gonna die now, right? Uh, I'm used to it in Final Fantasy 14 where if there are seven people and the game expects there to be eight, one of you is getting a mechanic twice and that means you're going to die and if you die, other people are going to die. [laughter] Um, but uh Blizzard um hasn't said anything yet, but players of World of Warcraft have said that when they have disconnected or seen other people disconnect, sure,
their characters have not. that they have been completely disconnected from the game and their characters have remained in dungeon and taken on an automated script or a follower script to maintain their role in the dungeon. Uh such as a tank continuing to hold threat on a boss after the players disconnected. You're obviously not doing
as good a job as a player would in most circumstances, but it does mean that the pull isn't scrubbed and that other people can continue playing when someone disconnects and then that person is reconnected and reconnected to their character right in the moment. So, that's really that's a really cool way to do it, right? Blizzard already has um the scripting for follower characters, right, from solo dungeons in the story. Um, so it makes sense that they could paste that onto a character of any level and spec and so on.
Now, the interesting thing here though is we don't know like they haven't announced this
like this is something this is and this would be a pretty big thing to like there's a chance that this is actually like somewhat of a uh either a scam or a glitch or something. Um, because if if this was like I I like it. I think this is a good thing and a good faith uh tool if if big if true. But also I could see it being incredibly exploitable. Um but maybe that's if it is a real
factor. That's why they didn't announce it. Um yeah, it's interesting. I I think I'd want this. I think this feels correct to me. Um, but
yeah,
I cuz yeah, nothing's worse nothing's worse than the DC and your whole thing goes down. I mean, I literally could be replaced by uh a chatbot right now and I wouldn't know it because I can't see
y
anything that's going on.
Yep. Hold on. Hold on.
I'm down to uh 07 megabits. I never found the button wheel. I never found it. Is it still smooth, chat?
It says it's smooth. I'm having
What's happening, Will? What's happening?
I have a encoder overload, but I don't
know why.
Interesting.
Uh, nothing has changed. I have undone the only change that I did today. And we are still smooth as butter on stream.
That is correct. I'm gonna I'm gonna do a thing real quick. I'm gonna go away. I'm gonna disappear for you.
Okay. Okay. But I'm still here. I'm still standing.
Better than you ever did.
Better than you ever did. Looking like a true survivor. Streaming like a little kid. Um,
I'm still standing after all this.
Oh, that's time. So, now I have the I don't know what's happening here. Uh, I have the logo for Ninja.
I'm I know. I'm sorry. I'm I'm working.
No, no, no. You're good. Good time for an ad break, Dark. Maybe that's right. Look, maybe if I click the button, it'll still show up. I have no idea.
Yeah, I can't actually start the virtual camera anymore. Fascinating.
Fascinating.
So, that's crazy.
Yeah. Should I should I try to leave and join again?
Uh, well, there's a problem on my end and I don't know what it is. So, hold on.
Interesting. [sighs]
Well, we can continue to try to do the show blind.
I mean, hold on. I'm going to tell you why.
Nope. Interesting. [laughter] Interesting. Interesting. Interesting.
What happened, Will? So it says their problem. It's it's OBS say their problem.
I look at log file.
Log file says there aren't any problems. So interesting.
Yeah. Right. So there's there we're having we're having a day chat and I don't I don't know why.
Um so there's two schools of thought. First school of thought is to keep just going like we're going right now. But I cannot see a thing, which is fine if it's working. Um,
well, the other problem is that there is something wrong with my PC right now. And I would like, in an ideal world, I would like to restart OBS. Unfortunately, that means that we're going to have to stitch together two halves of the video for Rocky.
Yeah, that's a that's a bit of a of a pain that we shouldn't do. Um, I don't know the best move. Chat, Brad, Janet, what do you think? Wrong answers to
Yeah,
we could How about this? How about this? Let's keep going and see how we do.
Okay,
sure.
This has been a technical difficulty.
[laughter]
Can you see now?
I can see now, but it's still staccato. Like I But I but I see
a frame.
Okay,
everyone's got some real good suggestions here.
Yep.
Switch to the party line phone call.
Yep. 100%.
It's only $2.99 for the first minute. Well, $4.99 each additional minute.
Yeah. So, so let's let's be very clear. If one of the three versions of stream is going to crap out,
I would most rather it be the one to Matt. Like,
I agree.
There's also, by the way, a distinct chance that you're not seeing this on Nebula because there's every chance that the recording is borked and I can't tell.
Interesting. Well, the good news is we can still download the thing from I believe uh
YouTube
YouTube and put it there if we have to.
Okay. Yeah, let's
Anyway, let's keep moving. This we've we've we've bored you with our own problems enough. Just know that the visual gags now will be completely
untimed.
That's right. Uh, next up on our list of good stories, um, a retirement. In a world where people get fired quite often, get laid off from things, studios get closed, projects get cancelled. It's kind of nice when a designer gets to just retire quietly. Uh, Warren Spectre uh, is retiring. He says he feels like he has uh done what he set out to do and uh he's he's done he's he's he's retiring. So uh Warren Spectre is um taking a leading role on Ultima Underworld, System Shock, DS X, um Invisible War, Deadly Shadows, Thief. Um he was part of the revitalization of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit with Epic Mickey. He's been in a bunch of stuff and he's getting to retire.
Yeah. 44 years as a game developer. Um that now Warren has um I guess
threatened retirement before and he in his statement sort of like says that as well, but he's like I he says essentially like this time feels real. This time feels like it's going to stick. And he's like, "Are there three more games that I have in my brain?" Yes. Does that does that mean it's going to go anywhere? Uh you know, probably not in the same way. But uh yeah, he David has it really right here. as one of the fathers of immersive sims. When I click that, Will, does that come up?
Mhm.
Great. Okay, cool. That's the other thing. If I uh will let me know if you're clicking a thing so I don't click a thing.
You know what? You're going to click all the things. I'm not going to click anything.
I'll click all the things. God, the freeze frames of my face are so weird. Uh moving. Yeah. No. uh the uh this is a I I still while it's you know sad that a innovator like this is is is sort of stepping down I think it's really is a good thing. It shows that there is um an end to the treadmill of work that even you love so much. There's a quote uh from the PC Gamer article that says
with all that behind me and with my age, health, and my business catching up with me, I'm feeling like I've done what I set out to do. It's time to write some books, do a lot of reading, do some lecturing, maybe do some uh consulting. Uh feel free to get in touch about those last two. Also, there's a keyboard here just waiting for me to get my piano chops back. Like, that feels really nice.
Yeah.
As as people on the internet who essentially grind a bunch, I would love it if one day uh you know, we could retire. No, I didn't just freeze. I just the the the state of the world kind of got to me there. But anyway, FOR WARREN RIGHT NOW,
very well earned. Hope he gets to rest and do all the things he wants to do and um
work on that Chop Pan.
Y All right. Uh it's time to uh move on for some good news into maybe some some less good good
No, but we had the good news though.
We did. And now we're out of it. And now it's time
for bad news. Um, so [sighs and gasps]
so speaking of streams going weird.
Yeah, speaking of streams going weirdly. Star Citizen had a bad day. Had a very very bad day.
I would rather be having the technical problems that we are having today uh than than what happened there. Yep. Uh yeah. Uh Mhm. Yes. Correct. So Star Citizen, infamous for being the crowdfunding game never ends.
One billion.
Yeah. The crowdfunding game that continues to ask for your crowdfunding despite the fact that they haven't shown the crowd what they're funding yet. Um had a stream where they were like, "Hey, look at our game. It's real. It's real real. It's full of good gameplay."
and you should give us money and everything is fine. Or at least that was the plan because everything was not fine. Every everything that could go wrong went wrong.
Yeah.
Um and it definitely damaged their credibility. Uh the the claim is that their next like the single player offering for Star Citizen Squadron 46, I think, is is going to be out later this year. No one believes that at this point.
So they say. So they say um they even started getting snippy with each other. It was really tonedeaf. It was just kind of a like it's the kind of thing that makes you wonder where a billion dollars is going. Like
this this is the thing that on a on a company that truly
is surviving on a vibe to poison the vibe like this. Like if I was working at that company seemingly
that knowing what I feel like I know now, I would be protecting the vibe at all costs. Um, and listen, I know that there are some difficult personalities there and and when you have a big company, there can be sort of clashes and all that stuff. Um, and and perhaps members of the team were like, "We shouldn't stream today." and someone else was like, "We're doing it like right like um it just it was a really really really bad look for them." And I would have some um sympathy and I'm sure there's some sympathy that go around to some people, I'm sure. Um, but the precarious place that Star Citizen and its community and whatever it is or its other multiple games or what have you, uh, the precarious place that it's in can't really survive. I mean, a lot of things like this. This is a first I think this is kind of the
first negative ding. Like, don't get me wrong, people were have been upset that it's not out yet, but people still keep funding it.
Yep, they do. And so now to just take the vibes out behind the woodshed, [laughter] it's not not a great look.
Correct. Um, yeah.
So,
did did anyone watch it live? I did not watch it live. I've just seen sort of super.
I have not I was I it was it was part of my hopeful prep for this stream was to watch the the the the nonsense unfold. Uh but it unfortunately was not uh something I had time to do. Yeah, this game has the same budget as GTA 6. That's correct.
Insane.
Absolutely insane.
Side note, Will, you got some time for some breaking news? I just got some breaking news.
Yeah.
Uh, this is coming in from last week's wonderful guest, Tzu.
Tears just messaged me saying an interesting news update on Bronze Man uh in Old School Runescape.
It apparently didn't pass the Runescape
poll.
Oh, no.
It needed 75% and it got 64.4. four.
That's a pretty significant gap.
So, I guess bronze man ain't happening. An old school Runescape.
No bronze man. Uh, you know, things that probably don't pass the poll or the sniff test include but are not limited to a pay to win money match wager extraction shooter. Why Why are 90% of digital grips ugly monkeys?
Yeah. No, I'm I'm about this.
Why? What is it about that specific aesthetic?
Why? Sorry. Well, that's what grabbed me when I was looking at like I was trying to grab screen grabs of this game.
Mhm. So,
I just don't get it. There's a new shooter called BR1 Infinite.
Of course,
you pay.
Great.
Per match.
Love it.
To play the game.
Great.
You can win money.
Uhhuh.
In cryptocurrency.
Love it.
For extracting successfully alive. Great.
I lost.
So, we're playing after stream, right? We're we're we're
brain cells saying that sentence.
Yeah.
I need you to understand that I feel dumber for having explained that concept to you.
Yeah. Um, I'm going to give them one prop and one prop only, and that is the adult rating on almost every graphic
I've seen here.
Yeah, it's an AO game for wanting gambling and Yeah. Cool. Um,
and that's not them doing it. That's just the system working as intended.
That's correct. So, uh, some important things to note. It's an extraction shooter. No one's going to play this.
What are you talking about?
Ark exists. Arc Raiders exists.
I know
no one is going to play this. Zero living humans will play this game.
Tarov and Arc Raiders exist and they don't ask for you to pay for every spawn.
Yeah.
Okay, cool. Great. Awesome.
Maybe AI bots will play it versus AI bots,
right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Second, I have zero confidence that this will not be rampantly hacked into oblivion because there is real money on the line for every match. Do you understand how mindboglingly stupid it is to have real money on the line for every match in an online game?
Because people can hack any server at any time with one of many exploits. This is so mindboglingly stupid. I award them no points. May God have mercy on their souls.
It's uh Yeah, I just I [laughter] Good luck.
Yeah, the hacking is a feature. It's moneyaundering. Yeah.
Cool. Anyway, get this off my screen.
Yeah. Well, it's funny because I just got updated the Star Citizen thing. It hasn't even The graphic hasn't hit my screen yet, [laughter]
bro. I don't even know. I think we're going to shut down after this at least.
Oh, yeah.
I need to do I need to do a full reboot before we do
That's totally fine. That's totally fine. But we got it. We're We're going by the seat of our digital pants, Will.
That's right. Okay. Do Hold on. I need chat. Chad, do
you get this joke? Oh, wait. Is this the Is this the Hold on because I can't see it.
Yes, hold on.
This is the next story after that.
Oh, yeah. I got your picture. I'm coming with you. Physical media is dead. Oh, that's so sad.
Yeah. All right. So, this is a band called Alltime Low. Um,
really? Listen, I have a I I have had one interaction with Alltime Low back in my uh MTV days, and they were awesome, lovely dudes. They were playing a thing called the Woody Awards where you actually won like it was for MTV so like the College Channel. So the thing was literally a block of wood with a hatchet when you won uh like the the trophy. And afterward they hung out with the crew, all of us. And we ended up partying in the venue till 3:00 a.m. and they bought us all Taco Bell.
Hell yeah. You know what?
All time low.
This was years ago. I have no idea what they're up to now, but it was really fun. Uh it was a good night.
Yeah. All right. So, um, unfortunately
their their usage here is, uh,
for their name's sake.
Yeah. Is is for their names sake. Um, physical media has now hit the all-time low of $85 million. And when adjusted for inflation, that is the worst total for physical media um, since tracking began in 1995.
Yeah. So, this is a 30-year low for physical media sales.
There's no band called 30-year low, so I went with what I had.
Yeah.
Um,
so this is uh Sir uh uh Sir Kana's July video game report.
Yep.
Um
it's for 2026 year to date.
Yeah. So, there's a lot of different reasons for this obviously. Um, it's just, you know, obviously we all the there's only so much money and time to go around and Steam takes a big chunk and, you know, a bunch of other things. Um, physical media on PC is all but
dead. Um, and now with PlayStation doing its thing and other things, this this this feels bad. However, I don't like the I mean, I don't like this for a lot of different reasons, but like the I don't It's not that I don't trust these numbers. I actually do. I don't think it for for what physical media could be. It doesn't have to be like a death kneel. It doesn't have to be this like doom and gloom thing. Like yes, more people are going to be buying digital. More people bought CDs than cassettes. More people downloaded MP3s than bought CDs. But like movies are still better on physical. I just watched Obsession last night and there's no way that a streamed version of that movie with all of its
intense shadow work would ever function. Uh music is still available on vinyl. like you can still like I what I don't want to see and I know companies will do is essentially point at this thing and be like see and it's like yeah yep but there's still value here
and you can still do it and be profitable.
Yep.
I know that's a kind of a wishlisty kind of vibes thing. Um, but I think whenever someone like Sony is initially saying like how the digital stuff is sort of inevitable, it's like it's really not. You're making a call, right?
Yep.
Um, yeah. And Oopsie has it right. More music's on vinyl now than CDs. Uh, which I don't know what that exactly means, but it's interesting.
Yep. 100%. Uh, okay.
Oh, yeah. And actually, Dogbert, sorry. Dogbert says a really interesting thing, too. question is, with the loss of
physical media, how much uh of the 86 million will companies lose by losing sales to people who won't switch to digital, like grandparents buying gifts?
Um, it's funny. I'm curious how much grandparents like cuz like they're still going to ship these cases with codes in them.
Yeah. Well, and
so who knows?
Yeah. I don't know. I was in a GameStop uh this week.
Really?
Yeah.
They sell Pokemon cards, Matt.
Oh. [laughter] This is for video games. It's for Pokemon cards. Actually, specifically, it was for Pokemon socks for my roommate. Um,
but um, a lot of it was like
they should include vinyl record physical media with PS6.
Yeah, that's the best idea I've heard all day.
Sorry, I interrupted your story. That comment was too good.
It was good. No, but like uh they're they're doing a lot of stuff to like equate gift cards with physical media
right now. So like next to the Switch games, there is like a giant wall of gift cards marked as games, right? This is a gift card for Mario Kart. This is a gift card for whatever, right?
Um so
I think to to uh uh uh Penape's point, shelf space still like this is this is the god this is the weird part. I think shelf space does have a ton of value for people in those spaces, right? Like I always I do truly think a case on a shelf will sell better than a game on a card that looks like a gift card.
I agree for now. I think
but like but like even so, right? Like let's pretend for a moment. um just just the footprint of what is a an official game case versus a a card hanging on a on a pin or whatever those things, right? Like
maybe uh value proposition will shift
with culture, right? Like later on, but I just there's something about holding the only case I have near me is for uh The Mummy Returns. Um, there's something about holding even if there's nothing in it. This
like and
humans the the as someone I think I've gotten retail trading more recently than you possibly.
Yeah. Um,
but like yeah, like this my my punch card to Gotham Archery uh pretending it's a gift card like doesn't
there is something about the tactile experience of holding a product that makes people more likely to buy it
outside of context. This feels more valuable.
Correct. And in fact, here's the interesting thing. It acquires more mental uh value, more psychological value when you pick up that copy off the shelf. when you pick it up, you are more likely to buy it significantly.
Like this is the dark wrath of retail.
If you don't want to if you want to go in and browse, put your hands in your pockets. Don't pick up anything. Don't do it because the second you pick it up, you want to buy it.
There's your There's your retail tip.
I uh I And I think this is true. Like uh physical media is going to become sort of essentially like collector's editions of things. And look, that's sad, but fine. Like I just want the option. Yep.
You know, so uh yeah, I mean it's it's it's sad news and I'm I'm sorry to use my boy's alltime low for the for the graphic, but it's not I just I think people are going to take the wrong thing from here because it helps the agenda of something and move it forward. So, it's just is what it is. All right, everybody, put on your taken off caps and perform a solemn shortening for 2x KO.
Hey, who knows what 2X KO is? Before we
start talking about it, show of hands across Brad and Janet on Twitch and YouTube and and he heck Rocky on Nebula, assuming this VOD works, uh to tell us if you know what 2X KO is. Yeah,
I just want to know. I just want to know. Yeah.
A bit. I know.
Do.
Nope. Nope. Nope. I do. I do. I do. So, okay. So, League of Legends is one of the largest video games on the planet. And you'd think if you spent all this time making a really good fighting game,
Mhm. You might want to lend some of that brand recognition in the title.
Yep.
So many people I've talked to that are League fans did not know this game existed.
Mhm.
I only knew about it because and I'm not a le I don't play League. I I knew about it because I love fighting games. And this makes me so sad that it's actually shuttering uh in December of 2026. Now, I don't agree with uh definitely not the naming convention of this, but especially after Arcane and um um what's their magic game? I'm blanking. Rune Rune um
Legends of Rune Terra.
Yeah. Um which are two phenomenal products of their own right. This felt like a natural thing. um a fighting game where you I think you have to buy characters individually
or had to
or had to. They might have released something else. Riftbound. Riftbound. It's not Rift. Yeah, Riftbound. That's what it is. Sorry.
So, Legends of Run Terra is the digital one. Riftbound is the physical one. Riftbound is doing much better than Legends of Round.
Riftbound is what I was talking about. um just like going taking your world and putting it into an acclaimed Netflix series or an acclaimed collectible uh
TCG um uh and now a fighting game. And I know that this was a small team and they had very limited resources, but if I was Riot, I would have just dumped so much marketing into I mean, and I don't know what like the the takeaway of a fighting game's monetization is. Um, but like it just feels like with Riot money, with Riot levels of money, you can just release a game.
Yep.
Like I know that's not their like if they don't think it's big enough to sell as a like or to keep going as a live service like they do with League and the team is so small, just sell a game. Just just sell a 50 60 whatever dollar game.
That's kind of what it is. They're selling it as a $40 essentially complete experience.
Yeah,
but it's a little too late.
Um
Yeah.
Yeah.
The game was in dev hell for like a decade. Yeah.
But like it's cuz it was a tiny team that was loved fighting games and wanted to make it. Like the story of it is I think kind of inspiring that it came out at all.
Yep.
But it's just so sad. Like I It's funny. Marvel um uh Token Fighting Souls uh I've been playing a decent amount of uh and I played a little on stream before and what a delight that game is. What a what a what a wonderfully polished piece of media that game is. There's so much detail and love from a from a team that feels excited about the source material but also fresh like a fresh look at it. And I really wanted 2x KO to be that for League because I like the story of League. I like the characters of League. I don't like playing League.
Yeah.
Right. Like I like fighting games [laughter]
and this was a this was a way to kind of get into that space if they gave it like I I have a hard time believing cuz the g the game is good. It needs a little more
time to cook, I think. But like I just feel like the name killed it. Like worse games have done better. Yeah, I agree.
Anyway, I'm sad.
I am also sad, but I thought you were Matt.
All right, Chad.
Let's move on. I'm still on the alltime low frame on the video. I have no idea where we are.
I know. I know. I'm I'm I'm trying to audible to to keep you in line. Um we're going to we're going to get through this and then we're going to have a nice long tech break. Um [laughter] and we will probably cancel gameplay after this cuz I need to figure out what the hell happened. It's probably for the best sadly because uh there's lots of work to do.
Yeah. So uh anyway, but all that is after we get to gaming. First off, in news that I can only refer
to as Let Them Fight, Disney is suing the FCC.
Again, Sue is getting a lot of work.
Sue getting a lot of work here. Um, great. Do it up. Uh, this
Yeah. Uh basically Disney owned ABC and this comes to us from IGN and a bunch of other places uh is basically suing and putting a lawsuit together against the uh the uh Federal Communications Commission or the FTC uh calling the US government agency's intentions uh uh investigations into them retali a retaliatory campaign by the Trump administration to curb the network's free speech. Um this is the first teeth that the legacy media has shown for this administration. Uh, and Disney amongst everybody else was the ones that was like closing up or like essentially like buying off things to uh essentially grease the wheels of this
administration, settling flimsy lawsuits and things like that. But after the Jimmy Kimmel push back, um, it seems like someone high up there realizes that, oh, capitulating to bullies doesn't work. And now hopefully not too late. This is the first domino of some things to fall. Um a large a large enough group to sort of push back on essentially uh people trying to bully free speech out of uh legacy media.
Yep. So here's here's the deal. Disney not your friend. The house of mouse is not your friend.
But we can cheer them on in this fight and then fight them later. Right. This is This is a Let them fight. Let them wear each other out and then we'll take on Disney when they're done. Right.
Gedra just showed up and we can't fight Gedra.
Yeah.
Godzilla is here to fight Gedra. And
Godzilla, who's normally only interested in Godzilla stuff, depending on your movie, uh will trample the city, but there'll be no city to trample if Gedra blows up the world.
That's correct. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right. Right. Right. Yeah. This is This is the enemy of my enemy is useful.
This is not the enemy of my enemy as my friend. This is the enemy of my enemy is useful to me right now.
So, good. Great. Let them fight. Let Disney spend all of their big House of Mouse dollars fighting this. Um, do the thing. Uh, you know, it'll be it'll be good hopefully. Uh, and yeah,
I I hope I really do hope this is like because who knows where this will go, but I want it to be a if there's one thing, and not to get too extra politics on this, that the administration, the current administration is really bad with is winning anything in a court.
Yeah, they're real they're real bad at that. Outside of partisan nonsense in the Supreme Court, I think their win
ratio, I mean, if it was, if it was an online game, they would have retired long ago.
They're they're in wood league when it comes to winning. It's below bronze.
Yeah. So, so, uh, thank you. Thank you, Red Earth, for the slim shady. Um, so the FCC won't let ABC be. Um the Anyway, I I I just hope that this kind of shows that there is a course of action other than try to line the coffers of a bully.
Yep.
Uh so we'll see where it goes. We'll keep reporting on it as it as it continues.
All right. In other big lawsuit news, oh boy.
OH BOY.
OH BOY. ALL RIGHT, everybody buckle up. This story gets dark real fast. Yeah, trigger warnings all around.
Yeah, this is this is probably one of the darkest stories we ever talk about. Um because it's Roblox. Roblox is hell.
It's it's I'm convinced that if you offered me a choice to live in Roblox or live in hell, I would I would live in hell.
So, Roblox has been sued by a lot of people and a lot of organizations.
Yep. Uh, and now
they're being congressionally subpoenaed.
Supined. That's must be Sue's sibling.
Yeah, that's right. Um, so I quote from the letter from Josh Holly and Richard Durban who are the chairman and ranking member on the comm uh subcommittee on crime and counterterrorism on the committee of the judiciary.
A bipartisan letter.
Yeah. In this economy, [laughter]
economia.
Yeah. Yeah. [clears throat]
You trumpet Roblox is a safe digital playground for children as young as five. But the public record raises serious questions about the promise of
safety. Over the past decade, police have arrested numerous individuals for committing serious acts of violence and harm against children they met via Roblox, including grooming, sexual abuse, kidnapping, rape, and even murder. Roblox is being used to trade uh seam participating in sexually explicit and often vir virtual express experiences with children uh bribe and extort children into producing explicit content and lure children into in-person meetings. It is heartbreaking. In 2025, Roblox reported 65,381 instances of suspected child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. more than double what was reported in 2024.
I'd like to remind people that uh in the years since then, Roblox has said many different times and ways all of the different ways they're going that they're trying to safeguard their stuff. Um but apparently, uh to say it's not
working would be double wrong,
right? So, um they they have a numerous uh they they have in the annex for this letter uh and the the link directly to the letter from u Josh Holly's office will be in the show notes. Um but they are asking for some very specific information uh from Roblox pertaining to this investigation. Um they are gfly serious about this. I think this is um there have been other states that have kind of like Roblox don't do that right before.
Oh, Roblox has been sued to hell by other states.
Correct. But uh never at the
And they've settled,
right? Yeah. Never at the federal level. And this isn't a lawsuit. This is an investigation.
Um which I think
an investigation.
Yeah. Right. That's exactly it. I think this is going to be much more um
serious. I think they're going to try and level like real penalties that they can't squirm out of. Um, yeah. Uh, no. And and and 100% I'm not saying that this is an add a boy on Josh Holly. I'm saying
no. This is another let them fight.
Yeah. This is right. This is what the government is supposed to do. The government is supposed to investigate things that are harming our society and Roblox is actively, demonstrabably harming our society. Here's what sucks. I agree with what Will just said also there. And we're not going to get extra politicky here, but there was some other laws that came out that said other files pertaining to problems like this had to be released and they still haven't been yet. Um, what I worry about and why I think this is bipartisan is because this is a largecale story of protecting children from predatory practices. And what this
could be seen as if Roblox takes the huge L, which they should, it might be seen by enough people that the administration like fixed the problem and they might have fixed or destroyed one vector of the problem, just not the one that was voted on to release a bunch of files about.
Yeah. Um, so, so again, it's one of those things where like, good, yes, smash Roblox into the sun for this. Um, but also, I hope that that doesn't take the eye off the ball of the other places where people's lives are being demonstrably hurt and destroyed.
Yeah.
Um,
multiple things can be true.
Yeah. Uh in an example, by the way, um one of my least favorite examples, uh is that Roblox has made the claim that they are immune
to wrongful death lawsuits based on behavior that they were informed about was occurring for towards one of their members, towards one of the kids that are playing on Roblox, and they did nothing. and uh that child died. And they say that they're immune from being sued because uh that the the parents bought Roblox once. Actually, the parents bought Roblox 19 times and they made an account. So, they can't be sued for wrongful death even though they knew that something was wrong because they're because they bought Roblox. You see that makes it okay.
You can argue um a few ways that I wouldn't fully agree with the argument why X wouldn't lead to Z or whatever, right? Like you that
that's that's something that can be done. Um but to come out and sort of say, "Oh, you clicked a box in a ULA." And that completely makes it so there's not even an investigation into finding out if anything was around, like if anything from the product was causing the problem. Uh I mean, it's the most shitty possible take a company could have. And look, um I think Roblox specifically right now is in um just internally I would say like a fight for survival mode.
Yeah.
Um and I think um that it will not survive the oncoming onslaught. I don't know. Yeah.
Um if it does, it will be transformative.
Um, and it needs to be I, um, it's funny. Forever ago, we did our episode, the Roblox's $30 billion bet when they went public. Um, and I don't know outside of the pandemic if they ever were profitable, like more profitable after that, right? Like it seems like it's just thing after thing after thing. And I know it's popular. That's that's a different story. Um but you and I know it's a uh correlation. Is it correlation not causation?
Is that correct? My my brain's
correlation is two things are related. Causation is thing a directly causes.
Yeah. So I I think uh yeah or maybe it's neither of these things. Just because something went public and then started tanking that doesn't mean that going public did it. But
correct.
Yeah. Causal. Thank you. Um
I don't know. I think when you are dealing with a company who's who's customers, clients are kids or it should be the kids' parents. Um, the second you introduce shareholder greed, it's adding another strong vector to lose safety precautions.
Yep.
Like that. I don't even think that's terribly incendiary to say.
There cannot be a profit motive for a playground.
Yeah. So, my official position is that Roblox should be launched into the sun immediately.
Yeah. And and and we're going to see more of this stuff come out. Um
Yeah.
Okay. I have I have a pallet cleanser story. Everybody Everybody shake it out. Everybody shake it out. Yep. We've
talked about Roblox. It sucks. It's awful. It's terrible.
But what if
But what if we had a little magic as a treat?
[music]
All right, great. Excellent. Wonderful. Um, chat, forever and a day ago, we talked about the rarest magic card ever. There's only one. A one of one ring sold to your my boy Posty Post Malone
and in the darkness binded to Posty.
That's correct. [snorts] the guy who who cracked it in a pack in Canada, went to a Post Malone show and sold it to Post Malone directly. Great. Wonderful. It's a wonderful story. Posty is a magic player. He actually plays Magic. He's not just like doing it to like put it on a big chain like a graded 10 Charizard and then wear it as a fashion statement. Not that I'm thinking of anything specific. Anyway, Posty's been on Game
Nights a whole bunch. Game nights is uh a um one of the multiple gameplay shows on the Command Zone podcast. Uh he was on for The Hobbit and in his deck was a card that represented the one of one ring. And so he pulled it out of its case and played with the most valuable Magic card in existence. It was still in the tinier case, but still it's in a hard sleeve, but not in the slab. Yeah.
I like the graphic I pulled from the video because it uh I can't see it, but I'm assuming it's on the screen. Um uh the person next to him is like
everyone at the table Yeah, Josh. Everybody was like freaking out.
Yes, everyone at the table was freaking out. They had just spilled a drink, so they were like clearing drinks off the table and whatever. But like this makes me so happy. I've been so my roommate's been getting into Pokemon recently and so I've been looking at a
lot of like Pokemon cards and stuff and the amount of times that cards go straight out of a pack into a slab and never get played is like real sad to me on some level, right? And so to to have this beautiful example of someone taking precautions with a $2 million card, but using the card like it was intended is just brings me indescribable joy to just play with your car. Play with your toys, right? Like people get caught up in the in the secondary market value and all of that. And yeah, you should be responsible and sleeve your cards and all that jazz, but play with your toys. I want to I want to shout out a friend of mine, Anthony, who last night who came over for movie night got me a specific extra um um he saw something on pre-order that apparently is very rare and he ordered it for me for my wedding because he knew that I would appreciate it very much. And when I got it, there's the option of keeping it in its case of its box for value. And I opted and said, "F that." And so I
opened Dream Date Skeletor from the new
Oh, yeah.
from the new movie, which comes with a tiny Zoysized Panthor.
Amazing.
And I and and and I I was like, "Hey, are are you I asked Anthony, I was like, "Are you cool if I if I open it?" He's like, "Yeah, this is meant to be that." So now this is on my desk. Uh it is the toy big meant to be played with. Apparently, I don't know how rare it is. Apparently, it sold out instantly when they because they they had like Dream Date Skeletor, Jim Bro Skeletor, and like Corporate Skeletor from the from the new movie.
Yeah.
Um, so anyway, I am fully on board with Play with Your Toys. And I think that post uh doing that um is is a really really good look and it reminds people,
you know, what these things are actually for.
Yep. Absolutely. Uh, cool. Great. Excellent. Matt, you wanted to talk ever
so briefly uh about a movie. Yeah, [music]
you're good.
Let me know when we're back. THERE WE GO. CUZ I CAN'T SEE IT. UM, I just got I read Earth so the FCC won't let me be or let me be at least let me see. They try to shut it down on MTV, but it feels so empty without the end of Oak Street. a film that just came out that I just want to say something quick about the episode of the only podcast about movies will be out on tomorrow on Nebula and Sunday everywhere else on YouTube and all the podcasty places. This movie will are you familiar with this movie at all?
I have I have seen it. The the basic premise is is somewhat known to me that there is a neighborhood and in the neighborhood there are dinosaurs.
Yeah.
Um this movie I I want to say a couple things. Uh, the acting is uneven. Anne Hathaway's skill is in a completely different movie from
everyone else. Um, the dialogue atrocious. Some of the worst dialogue I think I've ever seen in a film. Uh, it's very bad. Um, I love this movie. This movie feels it's it's a breezy something like uh 83 minutes or something.
Um, it it doesn't overstay its welcome. It has an interesting premise that feels like it came from late 90s, early 2000s. Um, it has uh really uh uh bordering on R, but still PG-13 action. It has PAOS and interesting things having to do with what's going on without an overabundance on like an interstellar level of explanation as to why the things are happening. And it is just a it is in my opinion the best dinosaur movie since the original Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park 1 is way better, but like this is I I I find it as an interesting cultural
moment that I have all these problems with the movie that I think are very legitimate and I still unequivocally would re recommend that you watch it.
Okay.
Uh it is it was just a delight. Like it's one of those things when the bad stuff happens and you roll your eyes or like whatever like when when there's something like a just it doesn't feel good like to watch you're just like but the rest of this is just really great.
So if that uh tickles your fancy I know it's not doing terribly great at the box office. It's up against the spider man. Um
but uh I do think it's worth seeing in a theater if you if you like movies and if that sounds remotely interesting to you I I would check it out.
Okay. All right. Excellent. Oh, and the dinosaurs, Almighty Dave, do have feathers.
Wow. Okay.
There's also a big snake.
Snack.
All right. Uh, we have one small piece of dessert. Redfall uh was not great.
It did not live up to expectations. And uh it in fact was so um lackluster I guess that Arcane the the the studio um that uh worked on it um this was their last project. This was Arcane Austin.
Um I forgot which Arcane it was. Uh and
so before the studio shut
Mhm. The devs pleaded with Microsoft, begged Microsoft. They said, "Hey, we know we're done. We're not asking to be not done. Can we please push the patch? 1.4 the the the final patch that fixes a lot of bugs that makes it the game that we've always that we've wanted it to be since the beginning is in pipeline. Can we please come back and finish the
patch?" And Microsoft said yes. So, the devs got to finish the thing that they were working on that they were so passionate about that they wanted to finish it even though they weren't working there anymore. Um, and on that account, I am kind of interested in playing Redfall now. Like that these devs were so passionate about the thing that they were making. Like I don't give a crap about Microsoft, right? But I do give a crap about a game that devs are so passionate about that they negotiate to be let back in the building to push the final patch. That level of passion is admirable to me. It shouldn't be necessary, obviously.
Yeah, this like
this story really is both heartfelt and rubs me completely the wrong way.
I agree. I'm on the I'm I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to stay on the positive side, but I I see where you're coming from
because and I'll be I'll be the Debbie
Downer. Uh the the other side of this is oh, did Microsoft let a group of devs come back and work for free to help make the de to make Microsoft a little extra money on an investment.
That's what Microsoft thinks. Now, the the the interesting part here is, you know, they had to sign contracts to be let back in the building and all that other stuff. So, like they had to go through like legal hoops to make it happen. So, it cost Microsoft a tiny bit of money, but not like like the the way this would be a truly good story would be, hey, yeah, we're hiring you back for two weeks.
Agreed.
Get paid to do this. It would be a rounding error for Microsoft, but no, the devs who believed in this thing had to beg to do the work for free.
Agreed. 100%. I think I I I think it is it is abhorrent that we exist in a place where that is necessary.
Yeah.
I for
it's like it's it's this has the same vibe. Well, sorry to interrupt. This is the same vibe as having a warm feeling when someone's GoFundMe for life-saving medicine hits a goal.
100%. I think the capitalism of it sucks. The art of it is amazing, right? like the the the they're like there's this weird complicated package of emotions for me, right? One, these people like
gave a damn
like real honestly like like gave a damn about their about the game that they had spent all this time on. Right. Sure.
And like that is what I care about. And yeah, the capitalism is abhorentt, right? All of the capitalism side of this sucks as per euge, but like it super sucks for me. The warm feeling just comes from like the passion these devs have and for the commitment that they have to their piece of art.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. 100%. Uh
anywho.
Yeah.
That brings us to the end of games for
breakfast. Although on my screen we're still talking about Roblox.
Yeah. I think I I think I know why. But we'll
I'm just happy I'm hoping that the VOD is fine. That that that's good. But I'm happy that the stream is smooth.
Yeah. If it's not, I can uh fix the We'll figure it out.
Yeah, we'll worry about it after this. So, Matt, I think it's time uh for you to do the the same thing you do every time you to send us off in in style.
Well, it's not it's not the same thing I do every time, Will. It's it's the same thing we all do as people around the animated breakfast table, four games for breakfast do together to get a sense of camaraderie and togetherness and going into the weekend with a just a really good vibe. And everyone knows it by now. Like everyone's got it on lock. I don't think that
Yeah, I know you know it. I know. I know everybody here watching, Brad, Janet, and Rocky all know it exactly. So, thank you for watching Games for Breakfast this week. If you'd please open your
books to let's see, let's go. Ah, chapter 18, Ninja Gaiden. Ken is the head of the Harabusa clan and the keeper of the legendary dragon sword. When he defeated the forces of evil, Ja Jako, his son Ryu, must go to America and armed with the dragon sword, avenge the and defeat his father. Now, if you turn the page, you can figure out the [music] scoring of you earn points. Sort of like a spiritual strength for slaying enemies and losing points each time you use a weapon. You see
