Summary

The Esports World Cup Foundation has announced that the mobile game GeoGuessr will join the tournament program for the 2025 Esports World Cup Festival. This inclusion marks a significant expansion of the festival’s competitive offerings, which are designed to run in tandem with the primary Esports World Cup event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The festival will host a Last Chance Wildcard Tournament for GeoGuessr from July 21–27, 2025. This competition will feature 16 of the world’s top-ranked players competing for a $20,000 prize pool. The top two finishers will secure qualifying spots for the 2025 GeoGuessr World Championship, scheduled for late August in Copenhagen, Denmark. This event follows a separate regional competition, the GeoGuessr Americas Major, which is set to take place at DreamHack Dallas with a $17,500 prize pool.

The Esports World Cup Festival is a broad initiative encompassing gaming, entertainment, and esports culture, including live music, cosplay, and retro gaming. Both the festival and the broader Esports World Cup are funded by the Saudi Arabian government’s Public Investment Fund. These initiatives have faced scrutiny from international human rights organizations, which have raised concerns regarding the use of such high-profile events for national image-building. The addition of GeoGuessr follows the earlier announcement of the battle royale title Naraka: Bladepoint as part of the festival’s tournament lineup.
