Epic Games has acquired the Brazilian game development studio AQUIRIS, marking a strategic expansion into the Latin American market. Founded in 2007 and based in Porto Alegre, AQUIRIS is recognized for titles such as Wonderbox and the Horizon Chase franchise. Following the acquisition, the studio has been rebranded as Epic Games Brasil, serving as the company's first dedicated studio presence in the region.
The acquisition builds upon an existing relationship between the two entities, following an initial investment made by Epic Games in early 2022. While the specific financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, the integration aims to leverage the studio’s expertise to support the development of new gaming and social experiences within the Fortnite ecosystem.
Despite the transition to a subsidiary of Epic Games, the team will continue to operate and develop its own original game titles. This move highlights a broader effort by Epic Games to bolster its internal development capabilities and localize content production for the Brazilian market while maintaining the studio's established creative identity.
