Enthusiast Gaming’s financial results for the third quarter of 2023 reveal a period of significant fiscal strain, characterized by a net loss of $59.1 million CAD ($42.7 million USD). This performance represents a widening deficit compared to the $37.1 million CAD ($26.8 million USD) loss recorded during the same period in 2022. The primary driver of these losses was a non-cash impairment charge of $51.7 million CAD ($37.4 million USD) attributed to adverse macroeconomic conditions affecting the company’s major assets.
Revenue for the quarter reached $45.6 million CAD ($33 million USD), marking a 10% decline year-over-year. This downturn was driven by decreases across all primary segments: media and content fell by 10%, esports and entertainment by 12%, and subscription revenue by 2%. The company noted that lower programmatic cost-per-thousand impressions (CPMs) across its web and video platforms contributed to the revenue decline, though this was partially mitigated by a 4% increase in total audience views. Despite the revenue contraction, gross profit saw a marginal increase of 1%, rising to $16.7 million CAD ($12.1 million USD).
Liquidity remains a critical focus, with the company reporting a cash balance of $2.8 million CAD ($2 million USD) at the end of the quarter, down from $7.4 million CAD ($5.4 million USD) at the end of 2022. To address these constraints, the company secured additional liquidity through the extension and expansion of its credit facilities. Operationally, the company maintained its position as a leading gaming property in the United States with 56 million unique visitors, while simultaneously executing a strategic shift that included the voluntary delisting of its shares from the Nasdaq exchange.
