Brent Koning has departed Electronic Arts after a tenure of more than six years, during which he played a significant role in the company’s competitive gaming division. Most recently serving as the vice president of esports, Koning was responsible for managing a portfolio of major titles, including Apex Legends and the FIFA series, while operating out of the company’s London offices.
Koning’s career at Electronic Arts included several leadership transitions. He was promoted to his final vice president role in May 2022, following a year-long stint in Redwood, California, where he oversaw FIFA competitive gaming. Prior to that, he served as the group director and commissioner of FIFA for over four years. His professional background also includes previous roles at industry-relevant organizations such as Microsoft’s Xbox operations, Red Bull, and various marketing and agency firms.
While the specific details of his next professional endeavor remain undisclosed, Koning has indicated that he intends to remain in London and plans to share further information regarding his future career moves in December. This departure marks a notable change in leadership for Electronic Arts’ esports operations, which have been a central component of the company’s broader engagement strategy within the global gaming market.
