The 26th annual Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) concluded with a significant victory for the dark fantasy role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Developed by Sandfall Interactive and published by Kepler Interactive, the title secured five major accolades, including the prestigious Game of the Year award. The game was further recognized for its excellence in debut, visual art, narrative, and audio, highlighting its impact as both a modern evolution of the JRPG genre and a standout creative achievement.
Beyond the success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, other notable industry recognitions included Blue Prince, which received awards for Innovation and Best Design, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which was honored for Best Technology. The ceremony also acknowledged Consume Me with the Social Impact Award and and Roger with the Audience Award. These selections reflect a broad spectrum of innovation across various game design and technical disciplines within the global industry.
The event also served to honor two influential figures through lifetime and career-spanning accolades. Don Daglow received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his 55-year career, which includes pioneering work in baseball simulations, real-time strategy games, and early MMORPGs. Additionally, the late Rebecca Ann Heineman was posthumously awarded the Ambassador Award, recognizing her legacy as a trailblazing developer and one of the first professional video game tournament champions. Produced by the GDC Festival of Gaming, the GDCA remains a primary venue for peer-based recognition of excellence in the video game development sector.
