Mobile marketers should prioritize targeted in-app purchase (IAP) offers to drive monetization among existing users. User acquisition has become significantly more challenging following Apple's April 2021 App Tracking Transparency (ATT) policy.
Mobile game developers face significant user acquisition challenges following the implementation of Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) policy. To mitigate these difficulties, the industry is increasingly prioritizing monetization strategies that target existing player bases through well-timed, relevant in-app purchase (IAP) offers. By focusing on specific player behaviors and milestones, developers can increase conversion rates and sustain long-term engagement.
Effective IAP strategies generally fall into four categories. Progression and milestone rewards capitalize on player achievements, such as completing difficult levels or unlocking new content, to offer exclusive, value-driven bundles. Crafting-based offers allow players to accelerate tedious resource gathering or object merging, providing a sense of earned progress. Task-completion offers target players nearing a specific goal by providing the missing components required to finish a set or event. Finally, second-chance offers provide immediate, time-sensitive solutions for players who have failed a level or lost a win streak, often bundling extra moves or resources to prevent frustration.
Beyond these targeted approaches, randomly generated offers serve as a supplementary tool to maintain interest and prevent player churn. These unexpected bundles, such as login bonuses or limited-time resource sales, keep the game experience dynamic without being overly intrusive. By aligning IAP triggers with natural gameplay rhythms and player motivations, developers can create a more cohesive monetization ecosystem. These strategies are widely applicable across various genres, including match-three, MMORPG, and strategy games, as evidenced by their successful implementation in top-grossing titles like Diablo Immortal, Royal Match, and EverMerge.
