[Applause] [Music] Good morning, Matt. Oh,
good morning, Will.
Good morning to all of you.
Welcome to Games for Breakfast, the only internet talk show we talk about this week's gaming and tech news, but that also I'm going to give the hardiest of, I guess, non-sponsored shoutouts at this point. Will, as everyone who watches Games for Breakfast knows, there are two components to this show. And it's games
and it's breakfast.
Yeah,
I guess there's three components if you count the four,
not the number four. The word four. Yeah, you understand what I'm saying. Anyway,
I totally do.
I got to take a little walk with Jamie yesterday to in my old haunting grounds of Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, where I lucked into living in a place for three years that I could not afford. And um there is a coffee spot there that is super old and lovely called De Mo's Coffee. And because we were there, I went to it and
it's, you know, one of those places where they grind their own beans and stuff like that. And like it's just like super old school and lovely. And this is the Red Hook Roast. And it literally made my coffee like the consistency of hot chocolate.
And I am I am so hyped. It's I've been smelling it since the since we've been talking on Twitch before we went live on YouTube and I cannot get it out of my head. So, thank you to Mikos's Coffee for not sponsoring this episode, but still existing and being awesome.
I just want to back up real quick. Did you call Are you saying that that is the Red Hook Roast?
Yes, for the the the neighborhood.
Ah, yes. For the neighborhood, not for the summoners of Eldrich's deities from beyond the great abyss that program darkest dungeon.
Either way,
I mean, little column A, little column B, right? Yeah. You know,
thunder. Thunder. You're lucky we're You're lucky. Wait, Arthle Darkest Dungeon. Yes, you're lucky. You're lucky we're cool, man. That's That's blasphemy.
Blasphemy.
You can get uh many coffee makers that accept Kups do have a little filter.
You can make your own
where you can make your own little K cup.
Yeah. Like good coffee. Why not?
You know what? Uh I would love to do this at some point. Uh perhaps actually Will and I were literally just talking about possibly doing a short that might pertain to this. So maybe just maybe that'll be coming down the pipe.
There might also be we we're also discussing um there might also be us um playing Peak with other people.
And by us playing Peak with other people, I mean there will definitely be a point where we ask people who are much better than us at peak to help us play Peak. and Matt and I will both be dead and being carried
figuratively and literally,
right? Yeah. And just doing color commentary. So, I think that's that's definitely a thing that could be in the cards as well.
We'll get to it. We'll get to it. But we have a great show for you today. Thank you all for joining us for the beginning
of your week. It's always lovely when you're here. Uh Janet over on YouTube, uh Brad over on Twitch, and of course Rocky over on Nebula. Thank you all for coming and starting your week with us. It actually does mean the world to us. I I was telling Will before the show because we've been off for a week because I was over at PAX and we'll talk about that in a bit. How like not starting my week doing this just completely discombobulates my brain at this point.
Yeah, this this is where the week begins. Everything before this is kind of a hazy mess.
Uh I I definitely don't know how I start Well, I do know how I start my Mondays without this. It's with words on stream and then a lot of waking up.
Yeah. Uh uh so again you are all a part of that. So thank you very much as we kick off this episode on what's the date today? The eth.
The eth. The eth of September 2020.
The first breakfast of the month.
That's right. Uh important programming note. I don't know if any of you have heard of it, but a little game came out last Thursday called Silkong.
I've heard of it.
Uh and I will be starting my Silkong playthrough immediately following this over on Twitch. So if you want to watch me play Silkong, I haven't touched it. I haven't booted it. It's installed and nothing more. Um, I'll be starting uh right after this. I gave everyone four days to get ahead of me. So, I'm ready to tear into the game. So, please look forward to that.
That is some That is some restraint.
I Okay, so I I'm I'm level with you, Matt. I had help with restraint. Um, the
Who held you down?
No, the new content patch dropped on Tuesday for Final Fantasy 14.
So, I had another
Yoshi P helped. Yeah, Yosh. Yeah. Solid one to my homeboy Yoshi P uh for helping. Uh no, I've been working on the new crafting and gathering tools. Um and that's nice and collaborative and a fun way to
What a what an awful thing to say, RC, but I couldn't help but laugh.
Uh no, no, the I I promise I promise you
Oz will not take an hour to compile Hollow Knight shaders. Um Oz is specifically built to not need to do that. So, it's pretty great. Uh,
amazing.
Uh, let's get into the show.
Yeah, let's get into the show. So, last week we weren't here because you were at PAX East or PAX West.
I was PAX West. Pax West.
Pax West.
I We of the Royal Wis. I just snorted. I haven't snorted in like five years.
Yes.
Um, wow.
I'm going to call those victories.
Wow. My face feels weird now. Uh, PAX was lovely. It's always great to go out there and see everybody. Uh we got to do uh the EC panel went phenomenally. In fact, I believe we have some pictures we did Metal Gear Solid Delta uh where during the beginning of the the the thing. You could check it out. I believe there's clips on the Twitch page. Uh uh there just happened to be a FedEx box that showed up on stage. The enforcers didn't know where it came from. Uh and then uh something seemed weird about it.
I don't know if you can kind of see there what's going on. I don't really really know. And then finally, oh, it was me the whole time. I was I did my inner Sam Rich and uh appeared after sneaking by Enforcers with flashlights to then talk about Metal Gear with uh Jasmine, that bronze girl, Bular, uh Arthur of Old EC fame, and uh Jeff as you all who you all know and love. Uh we got to spend an hour just sort of breaking down the first hour of the new remakes gameplay, which was a lot of fun. I forgot how to play it and I was so bad. But I think that actually showed a lot of like weird design intent with the different difficulty levels and things you can do because there was points in that game where I was just standing there becoming a pin cushion for bullets and not dying on normal. And I think that sort of uh informs a lot of like what they want to get across to the player. Uh anyway, it was a lot of fun. You can check it out on the PAX main show. I believe it starts at like hour eight of the main
show of day three. Um if you want, it was very, very fun. Also, uh, shout out to Jenner Stober, who had me on her, uh, tears of the kingdom, uh, panel, which was T
I E R S
E R S of the kingdom, where we tier ranked, not only tier ranked a bunch of items, characters, locations from Ti of the Kingdom, but anything that was in F tier, we officially exiled from the game. That's right. If you've noticed your copy of Ti of the Kingdom is playing differently these days, it's our fault. You're welcome. Um, it was brutal and fun and it was a blast. I was very happy to be there. Overall, the con was great. Um, yeah, I I I highly suggest you get to a PAX if you can. I'm trying, fingers crossed, to go to unplugged. We'll see. We'll see how that goes.
Awesome. Awesome. Uh, and then I I have I hear that uh in our midst, in our very presence, uh there may be a celebrity of of some status. Yeah. You you mentioned uh something about this
Okay, so Jamie and I were riding the subway. This a lot of like my weekend talk here, but I apologize because it's very important. So this, for those of you who don't know, who weren't here on the pre-show on Twitch,
uh Jamie tapped me on the shoulder after we'd ride the subway for like an hour and pointed up at this ad for Sundays for dogs. And a while ago, Jamie for a friend uh and a and a and a and a small amount of uh financial capital did a photo shoot with our dog LLO. And we had no idea for months where this photo shoot went. And then all of the sudden we look up and our dog is literally on the Subway ad. That is Llo eating Sundays for dogs. Again, not sponsored. We can go closer to this trash fox. And we lost our GD minds of just instantly seeing our dog that we're going home to walk in 5 minutes just on the subway ad. Uh, and it was hilarious. Making LLO the last member of our uh apartment of our family to help pay rent. Zoe's been doing it for years. Um uh and I very
much appreciate it. Now finally llo has graduated to helping us.
You got it.
Finally.
It was it was so cool and phenomenal and I lost I lost it. We we contacted her friend and she's like, "Oh my god, it's out." They didn't even know when those things were going to launch. It was just so It's so strange to see a creature you are so intimately familiar with just staring down at you while you're sitting on the subway.
Yeah. Yeah, that's uh Yeah, I'm I'm with Sugar Free on this one. Uh don't let him see it. The fame will go straight into his head.
It will. It absolutely will.
Yeah, absolutely. 100%.
Anyway, I had to share that with y'all because it was ridiculous.
Yeah, absolutely. Uh cool. So, on to the news of the past two weeks, mostly last week. A couple things from a little further back that we missed while Matt was at PAX. So, first up, well, I think we all expected this.
Yeah, right. This isn't This isn't new.
This isn't
I feel like this is right. So, Silk Song came out on Thursday, except it came out later than it was originally intended to. So, it was supposed to launch at 10:00 a.m. Eastern, 7 a.m. Pacific on Thursday, September the 4th.
Right.
And it tried to
sure did.
And then every game, every major game sales platform crashed.
Wamp wamp. Steam crashed, PlayStation Store crashed, and also didn't release it on time.
This was literally the my screen from my Switch. You can kind of see me in the background holding my camera.
Yeah, Game Pass crashed, aka the Xbox Game Store crashed. Uh, and the Nintendo eShop crashed so hard they had to take it down for maintenance. Aka, they turned the whole eShop off and then back on.
Wild.
Not bad. Not bad for
not bad for a sequel to an indie game from seven years ago.
Correct. For a small team out of Adelaide. Um so uh it reached a weekend peak of 587,150 concurrent players um and is already solidly on the way. Now it is not reviewed as favorably as Hollow Knight. I think there are a bunch of reasons why some of those
it was never going to be. It was never a it was never going to be correct because a lot of people will be comparing it to Hollow Knight which is sort of a game that doesn't have a strong comparison right it is very weird and that is sort of in its own little niche part of like Metroid vanias um which is one of the reasons it got so much acclaim. The other one is that the translation is not up to par and Team Cherry has acknowledged that. But the simplified Chinese translation and the Japanese translation are both not great. In fact,
they're I would go so far as to say that based on accounts that I have heard, they are bad. So, those things are being attended to in short order. Um it looks like Team Cherry uh unfortunately put their faith in the in a not great um localizer. So, that kind of a problem. Um
there could be a lot of different reasons for that, too. And obviously, I you know, Thunder said the thing, the quiet part out loud, not bad for a team of three asterisk. We all know that it is actually not a team of three. It is the three people that are Team Cherry, but there is many outsourcers that they use to to get something like this across the finish line.
All of whom are, by the way, credited.
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is not
If you're wondering about the secret,
right? If you're wondering about the list of those people, it's in the credits for Silkong was my point.
Um, but the uh Yeah. That look, this might just be something too that is the um the the collateral damage of like having to hit a actual release date once they committed to it.
Yep. So,
you never know, but hopefully they'll
fix it and it'll be fine.
Yeah. So, a couple of uh interesting notes. Uh number one, two stores on PC that I am aware of uh managed to stay up during all this.
Oh, is it
GG?
Okay.
And Humble both stayed up. However, Humble ran out of Silkong keys. The way the key aortionment works is that you have to aortion the keys on Steam and then you can sell them elsewhere like through Humble Bundle. And so Humble's deal with Steam is that they need to they only have an inventory of so many keys at a given time. Uh and so they had to aortion more keys from Steam. But that was hard because Steam was, as I've mentioned before, down. By the way, Steam was not a little bit down. Steam was so down it took down the Dota 2 servers in the middle of the International. Like this was not a little bit down. This was not like a little EPS. This was like out unconscious on the floor like maybe we
should check on them, put them in the recovery position and like keep an eye on them
levels of down. Um so uh that was very interesting. The other interesting thing that I wanted to get your take on, Matt,
okay,
uh, is is a take that I have heard throughout the internet and I'm kind of curious because I think this is this is a place for there where there's a little discussion and chat, I'd love to hear your opinions, too. There are people who are negatively reviewing Silkong because they view Team Cherry as responsible for the outages because Team Cherry What
did not allow pre-orders and preloads for Silkong? Your thoughts on this occurrence? I didn't put this in the notes cuz I wanted that face. By the way,
everyone like who was gonna buy it still
got to like play it on the day, right?
Yeah.
Right. Like this didn't this didn't really I mean sure an hour or two is annoying but like this very solidly this inconvenience in a very convenient marketplace in this particular case seems a a bit trit especially if you are excited and and and pumped that this team is releasing another game in a world that you love where like an hour or two later. It It's It you you get to do it anyway. Uh no, no, no.
And Chad seems to be agreeing with you. And and here is here's my here's my uh deeper take on on why I I don't think that that's correct. All of those platforms we mentioned, Steam, Nintendo's eShop, the PlayStation Store, Xbox's Game Pass, andor the Xbox
uh game store, all take a cut of the revenue of every game in order to deliver that product to the consumer. They take a portion. It's about 30% in most cases. Okay. So, you pay 20 bucks uh for sale.
Is it on Epic? Did it get released on Epic?
I don't know actually. I didn't pay attention.
Can someone look that up? Because if I load up Epic, it's going to upload like update 9,000 things and tag my bit rate,
right? Yeah. Um, can you can you can you do that, chat? Um, so, okay, so you paid $20 on Steam for Silkong. That means that for every one of those minimum, let's let's say that the only people who have played uh Silkong are the people who were playing during the all-time peak of 58,000. That means that that Steam made $3 million.
Yeah.
For delivering Silk Song. I'm not inclined to say it's Team Cher's
fault that Steam didn't spend more of that 30% cut upgrading their services so they could do the thing that game devs are paying them with a portion of their profits to do.
I feel nailed it too,
right? Yeah,
they have wish list numbers especially on on Steam.
That's a really great point.
That's an excellent point. like no. Uh I there should be a rating for Steam and we can roll that into uh uh the way they have been somewhat transparent about uh uh credit card companies these days.
Yeah. Um chat also says it's not on Epic.
Okay, fair.
Um the
that kind of makes sense.
Yeah. So the the big problem is is of course that uh there's also another thing which makes it not Team Cherry's fault. If the G if the game platforms said we don't believe that we are
capable of dealing with this load and believe that our infrastructure will be negatively impacted, it is on them to say those words and to ask Team Cherry to do a pre-order or a preload or both. And they have the power as the distributors of those things to say, "We're going to do things differently if you don't want to do this."
Yeah.
And they didn't. Right. I I think a lot of people feel like the distributor has no control. No. Steam has all of the control. Steam gets to do whatever they want on Steam, more or less.
They can stop selling it today. They don't want to.
Steam's pulled games. Steam's done all kinds of weird stuff. Steam hid a game from the public eye while hundreds of thousands of people played it while the deadlock play test was going on. Steam can do whatever they want, right? And to suggest that it's Team Cher's fault for not pre-ordering a thing, which by the way, every time it happens, people push back against, right? I just also want to point that out that there's like a bit
of a double standard here. When people get asked to pre-order 70, $80 games, right? Even the $60 games of like the previous generation, people are like, "No, you shouldn't pre-order cuz it'll be bad, right?" But now, now that it's this game, people are like, "You should pre-order." I feel like there's a lot of inconsistency here, which is kind of fascinating to me how like people are able to hold that double standard in their minds, right? Um,
yeah. I mean, and also uh uh uh Felder brings up a point, uh too here real quick. Uh they may have also assumed that other games moving out of the way would compensate for the spike. I don't know if that's actually and again, I'm not a systems I don't know that the way that they designed their systems, but I imagine it was the the fact that a single a single internet location was getting pinged so hard so fast. So like the compensation isn't like it's not the overall server load, it's the individual node or I again I don't know the
terminology, but like it's the thing. Uh, so I don't know if it was that in particular. Um, I also think Yeah, I mean then oops he says it's a digital game only. What's the point of pre-orders? They ain't going to run out of code.
Those are a really good point.
Um, look, I think this is a to be perfectly honest, a great problem to have headlines. It makes the game even seem like it is more hype than it already was hyped. Um, again, I do not think this is the case, but one could put on their tinfoil hat and say no one bothered because they knew this would just generate more sales in the long run.
I I I don't think that is what happened. Uh, but I also think that it probably will generate more sales in the long run.
I agree.
Um, because every news outlet that morning, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. And then even people, what if if you read IGN or whatever and then all the and you or like tertiarily and then all of the sudden you hear about this indie game you've never heard of, Silk Song that was so popular it tore down Steam
and the Nintendo eShop and you're like, "Oh, oh, I I should check that out. It's $20."
Mhm.
Like that it moved it moved product. Like there's no question. Um the the launch though overall I think look I could they have done a ton of other stuff to to fix this? Could Steam have done it? Could the things Yeah. But but preloads and and review bombing it because of that that just seems like the most I don't know if any of you have ever worked in retail. Have any of you ever worked in retail? Will have you worked in retail?
Have indeed. I've worked in retail and there's a specific kind of customer in in retail establishments that I I can only assume that since co has skyrocketed but even back in the ye old yesterdays of old before my bones were built of dust there was a type of person that would like this isn't exactly the same but the vibes are the same would come back to a store I worked at with a pair of shoes that they bought
six months ago and try to return them not in the original box and obviously worn for 6 months. And at certain retail chains that I worked at, they would take them, but you look at the person and you're like, "Bro,
yep."
It's that level of um you know, it's sorry, the word is stuck in my head because of the news of the baseball game with the Gollum lady that came and took the baseball. I don't know if you saw that in social media. She like this this uh they've been labeling her a very large example of a Karen. Uh she took a baseball that she thought she should have got or something from a kid and his father. It's awful. But it's like that level energy of like I'm mad about something that I perceived as my birthright.
Yeah.
And it's like it's insane. It's absolutely insane. So, uh here let's let's change the conversation. Will I
have played Silk Song? I'm not going to do any spoilers. I know the community here is spoileryfree and I will has waited too long, but my excitement here I got to play it on the over the weekend and my excitement here is because I was not among the Hollow Knight faithful when Hollow Knight came out. I feel like I got into it like four years past the D like the date
and it was really nice to just go in online communities and even you know ping some places that I some haunts that I go to and just talk about it as I was going through it. Uh it's a real like like I would pause it in an episode we're releasing in a couple months uh we'll pause it the the it's not a Souls board of course but these type of like difficult like drop your uh resources get back have to figure things out puzzle like get items to unlock maps and all that stuff like the puzzly aspects of a Metroid vania like this um do wonders for fostering community and it was really it and it's always there like Hollow Night was popular but I again I wasn't part of the initial influx And after playing for a good four to six hours, uh, that was lovely. The game is
lovely. I've cleared two or three bosses. There is a earworm song, uh, if you've played it that you it's already in your head. Um,
it
it's really it's it's lovely. Um, I It's weird. I'll say this, and it's not going to be the And I haven't finished it, so this isn't a complete um a complete uh review. Um, I like it more than Silkong. I mean, I like it more than Hollow Knight. And the reason I say that, though, is probably not because it is an intrinsically better game than Hollow Knight. It's because it's my Hollow Knight.
Yeah.
Does that make sense?
The I think the people who have played Hollow Knight too many times will not enjoy Silkong as much because it will never be enough like Hollow Knight to appease them. Right. A reminder, you can never step in the same river twice. You can never go home again, Will.
But you could certainly shop there.
That's right. Speaking of, I saw someone comment on my uh on my my Chroma key
mug. This is actually the game mug, extra credits.tore, if you'd like that. How about that? You can't you can never go home again, but apparently you could shop at our store.
Yeah. Um Okay. So, I also saw a comment in chat uh talking about indies moving for Silkong.
We're going to talk about that in a little bit. In a little bit. We're going to talk about that separately.
Hold that thought. We're kind of doing like a silk song sandwich here. We're gonna get to that.
That's the main topic we're talking about today, but we can't talk about it yet because this was just about the launch of the crashing and my first impressions. Will I
Oh god, I have meetings right after this. I really want to watch you play the beginning of this game.
There will be a VOD.
I know. I probably will throw it on later tonight when I'm working.
Um, all right, cool. Let's move on. Enough Silkong till we talk about Silkong again. Oh god.
Speaking of other games that may or may not exist.
I mean, I made this graphic. I don't know why I'm
right. Yeah. Right. Um, so Tetsamura says, "For real, for promise, for true, uh, Kingdom Hearts 4 is quote posit progressing in a similarly positive
direction to the development of Final Fantasy 7 uh, part three." Um, and uh, I just I I want to remind people that like this is the next Silk Song, right? Like, okay, we've got Silkong, right? This is like Okay, you know what this is, Matt? In the film,
are you ready for Silk Song 2?
No, this Okay.
Kingdom Hearts 4.
Do Do you remember Do you remember when everyone was waiting for Leo to get his Oscar?
Sure.
And you know how as soon as Leo got his Oscar, everyone was like, "Who whose Oscar are we going to waiting for now?" I just admit it should be Gary Oldman, but like that's not neither here nor there. Um, this is the next waiting for game, right? And don't say Halflife 3 cuz that just doesn't exist, right? That just completely doesn't exist. this people say exists, right? And it's not GTA 6 because that'll come out whenever and we'll talk about that later. But like I submit Kingdom Hearts 4 is the next Silk song for just like it'll be here when it's here kind of thing.
Yeah. And they al he also talked about the new the the third and final in the trilogy of the remakes for Seven, which I'm pumped for. It's just it's just nice to hear them talk that things are moving forward.
Yeah, absolutely.
Uh side note real quick. I I hate to tangent, but Daft asked a really good question. Hey, Matt is a former MTV employee. Any thoughts on the fact that the VMAs were broadcast on CBS last night and not actually on MTV? Yes. I my heart goes out to everyone that works at CVS, Paramount, etc. for the level of nightmaritude that they are going to have to go through uh in the coming months. Uh there was an article about uh some of the things that they are doing. I won't go into this feels too industry but um what if we take brand this this is level of idiocy on the level on on the on the
scale of uh dropping HBO from HBO Max. Take your name brand that has still somehow retained in people's minds for years despite the fact that what it used to mean it doesn't do anymore and further dilute it into absolute nothingness.
Yeah,
I hear the show was great though. I had some friends working on it. I hope the show was wonderful. Um I just that sucked I think. U but that's neither here nor there. So
I mean bowling for called it.
What what was what's the
and Blondie and music still on MTV anyway?
Yeah. Um, yeah. Anyway, that's all for Kingdom Hearts 4. It's just it exists and Tetsuamuru has been on the record being like, "Yeah, it's going in a good direction." And that we're happy about that. So, that's good. Um, just, you know, I I like I don't like this screenshot of Sora, but I like the idea of getting more of this. Uh, largely because I just want to see what they try and like Kingdom Hearts is the game that I watched like a train wreck in slow
motion because I don't know what's going to happen next and I don't really want to know until I know and then I'm sad that I know, right? But like I just
it's a fascination. Uh,
all right. Uh, next up,
Capcom has
Yeah,
this this is kind of a very interesting story. So, so let me lay lay a little bit of groundwork. So, Capcom,
this comes to us from IGN, by the way.
Yep. Had a u Capcom released numbers for their uh last quarter's sales data for the quarter ending June 30th. Monster Hunter Wilds sold 477,000 copies, making it their uh ninth bestselling game of the quarter. Selling 389,000 copies was Monster Hunter Rise. Monster Hunter Rise is the previous game. It's
not a prequel. It's not the game that came like it's just the game that came before in the Monster Hunter series. Monster Hunter games don't directly sequel into one another. Um, but it's the previous entry in the Monster Hunter sequel, and it's four years old, and it sold not even a 100,000 copies less in the quarter that ended June 30th than Monster Hunter Wilds did. And Capcom's conclusion that they've drawn from this is fascinating because they were they drilled in specifically on the increase in both the price of games and specifically the increase in cost of the PlayStation 5 as a reason that a more recent entry in a series is having trouble keeping pace with sales. from an older entry in the series because Rise is available on the Switch and also on PC. Wilds is also still plagued by some tech issues on the PC
itself and by
world you can get for like $7 now.
Monster Hunter World runs like a dream has been modded to from high heaven to low hell and is $7. If you are looking for a Monster Hunter game on the cheap, World holds up uh and it still has people playing it. Like it's it's not that no one's playing World, it's just that lots of people were playing Wilds. Um it's just fascinating to me that the conclusion that Capcom draws from this, and I think it's not without merit, is the PlayStation 5 costs too much. It's hard to convince people to get buy a game on the PS5.
I mean, this game also came out for PC, though.
Sure. like
as did Rise, right? Rise.
As did Rise. I mean, maybe let me talk through something that maybe is wrong. I mean, how much is a PC with a monitor that you need to to play Monster Hunter
as well? Like to run to run Monster Hunter Wilds? Well, how much would a PC cost? Would it be roughly the same? Would it be cheaper than a PS5?
Much more.
It'd be more
be significantly more. Uh,
so why aren't they complaining about that?
Like I guess I this again there might be market forces that I do not know and take my words with a grain of salt because I am an official Sony pony. Everybody knows this. Do not like I'm I I I'm trying not to make this like I love PS5 and therefore that's why I'm defending it. But like I don't like that the price of it went up. Also, Monster Hunter Wilds released before the price went up. Um, and it is an expensive console. There's no question about that. But to play this game anywhere, you've built a game that has to play on somewhat expensive hardware.
Yeah. To to to put it in comparison, by the way, Matt, a the graphics card, just the graphics card to play Wild cost
more than the PlayStation 5.
Yeah. So, like, okay, you can blame it on the rain or whatever, but the Millie vanilla defense isn't going to defend it. I think what's happening is it released on PC. It's not running that great on PC from what I understand. The one platform where it seems to be running well is an expensive console, but you built the game to run an expensive hardware and it had a great launch, but then apparently there's also talks and and I I fell off sadly. I really liked playing it. I didn't stop playing it for any particular reason. I think other things just came out. I didn't even get to the end game. Will, did you get to endame?
Did you Did it feel like it it held up?
No.
No.
Part of part of part of the problem was I picked a weapon that I was already good with that got buffed.
Hammer got buffed significantly in Wilds, if you aren't aware. Hammer got everything they wanted. Hammer got buffed by the presence of the sear kit. Hammer got buffed by adding new moves. Hammer got significantly buffed and I
played hammer in world for a really long time. So when I played hammer, it stopped being terribly much of a challenge uh until like Yeah.
Yeah.
So like I don't know. I I understand um trying to find reasoning about like why you had insane sales and then it dipped as hard as it did. I don't know if the price of the PlayStation is really the the reason here. Um, uh, again, with all respect to the team who made Monster Hunter, um, Wilds and, um, uh, President, uh, uh, Tuchimoto, uh, I, I hope I'm not butchering that too poorly, too much. Um, but like that this does feel a little copium in a sense. Like it feels like you made a big thing that has to run on expensive hardware and you're calling out the expensiveness of the one
piece of hardware it seems to run best on.
Yeah.
I and I will I will absolutely as a PC gamer through and through, I will say that if you have access to a PlayStation 5 and you're considering playing Monster Hunter Wilds, you should play it on a PlayStation 5.
The performance is better and the whole game is designed with controller in mind. So if you're playing it on PC, you're probably playing with the controller anyway. you're not getting a lot of keyboard and mouse, right?
Like, yeah, I I think GG's got a great point that they may simply be trying to save face with investors, but it is fascinating to me that Capcom would just straight up be like, "Yeah, it's really expensive to play this on the PlayStation 5. That's why like
it's weird." But like also just just to be clear,
10.1 million copies sold, 8 million of which in the first three days. Like the game is already a success.
Correct.
Why are we bust throwing here? What? What is it? Because it's not all the money. Like what?
It's Wild's curve is probably a problem. Uh Monster Hunter is like semi semilive service in a lot of ways. There are ongoing events. For instance, there's there's going to be a crossover with Final Fantasy 14. We're going to get to fight Omega. I absolutely look forward to seeing Monster Hunter players panic when they see the word Larbird appear.
Team players know. Um,
but apparently apparently though like all of those things aren't enough to keep people tapping in or buying it. Like actually, who knows? What is the concurrent player count of Wilds right now? Do we know? and pull it up
because like
I know we can't see it on PlayStation easily, but
I mean we're going with we're going with the place that we can see stuff. It has uh 14,900 in game. Also relevant is that it is currently at 46.56% positive
rating wise.
Yeah. Uh because the issues with Wilds
on PC have not been fixed and we've been told the last thing we were told by Capcom about them is that we should not expect them to be fixed until this winter sometime. So why isn't our game selling?
Right. That's some that's some
Yep. So
anywh who we can keep going but let's not let's keep going to something else.
I agree. Let's move on to the final fate of Perfect Dark.
Oh man, this thumbnail hurt to make.
Yeah. So, Perfect Dark there was a new Perfect Dark game that got announced in 2020, revealed in 2024, and has since been um announced has been cancelled. The truly fascinating part uh and this brought to us by PC Gamer um is that it appears to have fallen through
amid negotiations over IP ownership, which feels like the stupidest reason for a perfect dark remake. make to go through because when was the last perfect dark game released?
Yeah, it's not this is not a the hyper valuable IP. This is a precedent play. This is this is Microsoft not wanting to spend the money to complete the game because they don't think it's going to make its money back, but also they think it's still on the other hand valuable enough to not let other people finish the game to have them make money off the game,
right? that. So, there hasn't been a perfect D game in 15 years.
And they I I again I agree there's
probably a precedent play, but like man, this sucks.
It sucks. No, no, no. It's it's incredibly clear as to why they are doing it.
Um and it it you know what does suck too though? I'm trying to I'm trying to remember the tangled legal web here because originally when they um they closed the studio who was working on it.
Yes.
That they Microsoft was going to allow them to find a new publishing partner and fund the game before its cancellation. Like they were they were they were going to like try to let that happen. But then the talks of this
I it's a little okay. It's a little either talking out of both sides of your mouth or one hand of a company not washing the other hand of the company like not actually paying attention like maybe high up brass was like yeah no we want this to come out like sure let's let's find a deal and then when the deal started coming through legal of Microsoft was like actually we can't do this because of x y and z and then the top of it was like ah crap well that's that because again this is a one tiny
drop in a very large pond
agre
um still sucks sucks.
Yeah. I I don't think like it sucks for the devs who uh are going to have to find work. It sucks for the fans who were excited for the perfect dark game. Like there's no win here. Nobody wins in this, right? They just lose money that they never were going to have in the first place, right? Microsoft kills the game because they don't want other people to have money that they weren't going to have. This is where the intricacy of a super large business with fingers in a ton of different pies really like actually truly crushes the ability to uh in this particular case make games or release any sort of media or art. Like it's it there I truly believe there's no malice here. It's just incompetence or the inability for various systems to talk to each other fast enough.
Yeah.
Uh and this is collateral damage to it. Now whether or not that is more or less
bad is up to your own moral code and standing. Um but the it these kind of things highlight the problem when when one company owns a thousand pieces of a lot of different companies. Like there's many problems of that. This is not the only problem. But like this is one of those weird ones you don't really think about because this isn't like big evil corporation crushing indie thing. This is like this is the definition of like corporate collateral damage.
Yep. I'm sorry.
Um and it sucks.
It absolutely does.
Uh I I rewatched the um I think it was from Xbox Game Showcase. Um the the you never know how much cuz it said like combination of gameplay and cinematics. Like you never know how much is like smoke and mirrors and how much is real actual gameplay at these things. But the way that the combat felt in this game and the way that the gameplay seemed to work, it was kind of like a mix of like almost like Mirror's Edge and a first-person shooter.
Yeah.
Uh like maybe with a little even
Titanfall 2 kind of slid in there in certain parts minus the mechs. So like I don't know. Uh
Titanfall's had the best has had in my opinion the best movement on foot for a firsterson shooter. Yeah.
Ever like that that and that's I would say that that's the reason that Apex survives despite all of the other problems with Apex. There are a lot of problems with Apex, but that's not Yeah. Um I do want to answer this quick question. Uh God Frogs asked, "How far into the dev cycle were they with this Perfect Dark Reboot?" Um at least
two uh at at least um a year and change. uh it got revealed at 2024, but it was announced in 2020, so sometime between then and now
when we release this uh later today when this VOD gets the show notes and everything, um there's a link to the PC Gamer article. You can probably just look it up right now, too, if you wanted. The gameplay reveal trailer, and that's the one where it says it's a
combination of actual gameplay and cinematics. If any stitch of that is gameplay,
it was fairly far
Yeah. along,
right? Which makes
unless they're just literally lying through their teeth about that entirely, which is possible.
Yeah.
Uh, okay. I think we've got We're probably going to need to do this a little before and a little after ads, but we'll
That's okay.
We'll get started with our next story. Matt, do you like turtles?
I do like turtles.
You know who doesn't like turtles?
Shredder.
Blizzard Entertainment. Um so um Turtle Wow has been a private WoW instance server collective version for a hot second now and they have thus far up
until very recently managed to not get uh I believe The technical term is sued into oblivion by Blizzard. Um
repeated legally into the litigation sun.
Correct. However, that has ended. Um Turtle Wow uh has fallen a foul of Blizzard's legal department. Um, in the face of a bunch of things, uh, some of it is they are taking Blizzard or they're taking original WoW assets, code, whatever, and iterating on it with like they're trying to port the game into Unreal 5 and do a bunch Yeah, there's a bunch of stuff. They added new uh, original content to WoW in like sort of a homebrew thing. And then the other one is that they they didn't charge for it, but there was a cash shop. And by cash shop, I mean a donation incentive
program where you got items
where you could donate money in exchange for currency and that currency could be used to buy premium cosmetics. So it sounds a lot like a cash shop to me, but it's not a cash shop according to Turtle. Don't make me defend Blizzard. Don't make me do it. I don't want to do it. It doesn't feel good. Don't make me defend Blizzard.
Right. So, um le let's let's let's wrap this up, of course, with I'm gonna I'm gonna find it. This is uh by the way, this broke containment. Uh there was an article about this in Newsweek, uh which is one of the reasons we're talking about it here. Um the response, the official response on the Turtle Wow Discord
is as follows. Turtle Wow is here to stay. Challenges come to us often at each time. We are prepared to face them. We remain fully committed to delivering the Turtle Wow experience you've come to love over the years. How how are you going to do that in this economy? Look, okay,
if there is a higher power, I want them to grant me the unearned confidence of whatever dev or community manager wrote that. Because with that level of unearned confidence, I feel like I could do anything, right? Like, and even if I can't do anything, I'd at least feel like I could do anything. But like, what? How how are you gonna be like, "Ah, yes, we're being sued
by a company that is notoriously ligious
about defending its copyright with one of with the biggest MMO in the world
and we'll be fine. We'll just be fine. We'll just win the lawsuit." No big
I I can't I I can't with this. Um look, I understand that fan projects when they explode to this level get expensive. This costs money to run. There's no question. It needs money to run. Um, but that even even if you don't like the companies, you have to be real clever about how you go around doing things like this. And it feels like the cleverness just has sort of like someone turned the clever tap off. Um, and now it's just a dry bed.
Yeah, I I like this one. They may have every legal ground and also way more money, but please understand we're built different. Correct. I don't think you can be built different enough. Like,
let's let's do Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Let's have fun. Can we Brad Janet uh Rocky over on Nebula, shoot us a message on Blue Skype. Um, can we come up with either a legitimate legal defense or a silly enough one where the where the judge would be like, "That's pretty funny. Court adjourned." like what are the what are the ways this could work out for Turtle Wow.
Okay,
I will accept jokes and non-oke answers.
Okay, so I've got one. Mark says, "If Dota was okay, then Turtle's okay."
It's a really great really great thing to bring up. So, I'll I'll do the in brief. The entire mobile genre of games, League of Legends, Smite, Dota 2, Deadlock, all of them owe their
existence to a mod, which was originally made in Warcraft 3 called Defense of the Ancients. The problem is manyfold. One of the big issues uh that Blizzard ran into at the time trying to retain any amount of control over the Dota IP is that there there wasn't any um claiming or copyright protection system built into Warcraft 3 that said that they had any claim to anything you made in the custom map editor. And the entire thing was made custom and was someone's work in the custom map editor. And then they ported the idea along with several characters with all of the defining features filed off. For instance, Uther became Omni Knight when it moved out of Warcraft.
Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Right. I would argue that this is not different enough and that the fact that they are calling it WoW means that they know that it's not different enough. Also, you know, Blizzard now after the Warcraft 3 Dota
nonsense has baked it into every ULA you you click through and don't read. Like, this isn't something that they like that happened to them and they're like, "Oh, gee, let's hope it never happens again. They reworked everything they did after that fact. There's no question in my mind." Y
this is ironclad in in that regard.
Yep. Okay. I like I like some of these. Uh in our defense, no one likes Blizzard. That's largely the people who play Turtle WoW are people who don't like Blizzard and who don't want to give Blizzard money so that but they do want to play WoW because I guess they like it. I don't really understand the drive, but they they play on Turtle because they don't like uh WoW. Um I like snackins. Uh your honor, my client, please. I'm just a little guy. Come on. I'm just a little birthday boy. You wouldn't throw a little birthday boy.
That's right. That's good. The judge might not. It might. Maybe the judge really likes birthdays.
Yep. Um, yeah. Uh, Luna also points out correctly Turtle tweeting their work and replying
to WoW tweets really didn't help. Correct. We'll talk about what are the things that Turtle should have done after our commercial break here in a couple minutes. Um, Blizzard, would Mr. Lincoln change your mind? I like it. It's good. Yeah, 100%. Like it's it's not I don't know what they think their argument is. And uh that's a good one. I like
it's a shell company. Yeah. No, that's Yeah, that's real good.
Right. Um your honor, in my client's defense, I thought they could res up Blizzard to be okay with this. Also good. Also accepted. Um I I think yeah right like someone pointed out in chat and forgive me it's it scrolled past so I didn't see the servers I don't believe are based in the US that doesn't super matter
no
cuz they can just like
get blocked everywhere like that that has happened right domains have been seized now there will be ways that you can get around that right but they will hurt turtle significantly Um uh like if you could do like a direct like if you're if you're not um on DNS, you could go directly through IP, but like at it's still going to hurt enough that they probably won't be able to continue to exist.
Didn't I'm trying to remember when WoW Classic dropped. Wasn't there a classic server running?
Yes. And
these have run for like many of these have run for a very long time
and like Blizzard invited that team over to like look at classic W like wasn't there something like this like and they like they didn't kill that they because that one from and may maybe I'm misremembering correct me when I'm wrong but that one didn't have like didn't do what Turtle was doing with like basically selling stuff. So they've one of the parts of Blizzard's argument is that any existing
way to play the WoW experience for free is a problem because it takes money away from them and the money they need to continue to develop the game and that it exposes users to undo risk by being a third-party place. So that's kind of that has been their standard line for a long time. I think it's been the case every time they've thing. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, okay. We're gonna do a quick ad break and when we come back, we're going to talk a little bit more about Turtle Wild before we move on to our main story. So, if you're not familiar, uh, Janet, you're going to get fake ads for things you can't buy, while part of Brad over on Twitch gets real ads for things they can buy to help us keep pre-rolls off so everyone can just roll right in and be part of the conversation. So, when we do that, we're going to sell you uh things. Matt,
do you want
You want to start? You want me to start?
Um I Yeah, I can start. I can start.
Okay, here we go. Ad time.
Ad time. Hi there, everyone. Will Rex Credits here to sell you Turtle Law? That's right. Are you getting sued for all of the money? Not some of the money you have, but all of the money that exists because you pissed off a much bigger studio named after a storm of some kind. Um, well, look no further than claiming turtle law. Your honor, it's clearly named turtle. We're clearly turtles. According to turtle law, this is all fine. Just don't subscribe to human law anymore. uh claim that your entire development team is turtles and that you should only be judged in a turtle cord.
Nice. I'm gonna I'm gonna go I'm gonna I'm gonna piggyback off of what you did. And I want to sell something specifically to Turtle Wow.
Okay, great. Awesome. I have a feeling you're going to sell them something that I could sell them later.
Okay, cool. Here we go.
Yeah.
Hey, Turtle Wow. Matt from Extra Credits here. Listen, are you sad that Blizzard
is now going to basically sue you into oblivion because you sell things on stuff that you obviously shouldn't have sold things on? May I suggest a thing that corporations have done since time in memoriam when when uh reconstituting what their services that they offer? May I suggest dropping the part of your name that has brand value? HBO Max did it, right? Also, MTV doesn't even air its own shows on its channel anymore. So, why would you keep WoW in your product? Just call it turtle. No one will know what it is. No one will pay attention to you and you'll skirt those legal issues.
That's very good. Very good. Um,
nailed it.
Yeah. Okay, great. Excellent. I'm going to um
Do you want to do another one?
Yeah, I can do another one. I can do another one.
Okay.
Hey everyone from Extra Credits here. here to sell Turtle Wow, specifically something they desperately need. Turtle Wow team need you to give me $10 and
then take my patented course. It's a very patented course. It's It's Many people should take it and don't listen. Just Just take the course. All right. Give you the tenor. All right. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Shut up. Stop it. Just shut up. talked about this with 14 mods. We talked about this with other stuff. Just shut up. You're literally out there making noise and drawing attention to yourself. Simply shut up.
I've taken that course. If you use code shut up at checkout, you do get it for 20% off, which is a really good value. I got mine for $7.99.
That's right. Yeah. No, but for and and we'll we'll talk about this a bit more when ads end in like 45 seconds, but yes, I do think that is the the number one thing the Turtle Wow needs is to shut up.
I mean, I will I will Yes, they shouldn't be responding to Blizzard's
to Blizzard's tweets. Um, but they are treating this like to not get sued into oblivion, they need to shut up. If they shut up, they also don't have a business, which is probably illegal what they're running anyway. Like there's an interesting dichotomy. They This has gone bigger than they can just do as a fan community, obviously, right?
Well, they were advertising.
I know.
They they like they Okay.
You're not advertising to get numbers. You're advertising to get uh money. Yeah.
Right. Yeah. You don't. Right. So, yes. Um so, brief catch up for the people who are in ads. Uh Turtle Wow needs to shut up and part of the needed to shut up. Right. There's a complex chain of shutting up that needed to happen. Number one, if you're going to do a fan project like this, don't advertise on Tik Tok. They were advertising on Tik Tok. Don't advertise on Tik Tok. What are you doing? Like
what? You bought advertisement space on Tik Tok. Why? Right. Like that's a whole issue in and of itself, right? Because your whole argument, I think Matt, you're completely correct, that you're not running a business falls apart when you buy advertisement space to acquire users because the only reason that you do that is to make money. Yeah. Like there's no there's no
you can't be like, "Hey, come try our free thing. We have no monetary incentive to get you to do,
right?" Like that's that's not how that works.
I anticipate in two to three weeks or something on this show, uh, we will have a continuation of this story that is literally just, "Oh, yeah, it's done now."
Yeah, correct. Like there's I I I I'm trying to think of a way that Turtle Wow survives this.
Yeah. I I don't Especially because they didn't just like they're going to like if they settled that might be one thing, but Blizzard's going to demand court costs, right? Like, yeah, they're completely screwed because they have no case, right?
Like a and and there's this weird thing. I have not been able to get a firm handle on this, but I have seen it come up in some of the headlines. I am not enough of a not a lawyer to fully understand it, but I have heard that this is a RICO suit. I don't know what the implications of that are or like and I haven't been able to track it down exactly and I'm not enough of a lawyer, but I have heard that Blizzard is very serious about this. I I wonder if there's whispers of that type of breach because it's essentially a group a group like actually actively not only
profiting but running their illegal gains profit as a business.
Correct.
In a more public setting like there's I god I wish I knew this. I feel like I used to know this.
Right. So, I I I definitely my my point is is not that it should or shouldn't be or that I understand why it is, merely that I haven't heard that for any of the other times Blizzard has done this. So, Blizzard has either upped their game or found something specific that they're going to hammer Turtle on. Um, and I I don't think Turtle has a chance. I think we're going to get Turtle soup in about a week and a half.
I wonder. It's funny. Uh, I was just watching um it was on Legal Eagle's channel, but I believe it was Scow Owl, who was doing it, who reviewed It was such a fun video. I suggest you all check it out. Uh, it was uh reviewing the Hell Divers contract you signed at the beginning of
Hell Divers.
Uh, and if they're diving into more gaming stuff here, this would be an
interesting real world thing to discuss over there. Maybe I'll bring it up to Devon at a certain point.
Yep. Uh, okay. So, uh, in short, rest in peace, Turtle Wow. Yeah, I
boy oh boy,
would you care to
Yeah. So, as a as an appetizer to talk about release dates, let's talk about what h happened with Mortal Kombat 2, the cinematic experience. Uh, it was supposed to be opening in a couple weeks and now it has been delayed to May of 2026. Now, we're going to talk a lot about video game release date windows, but this is a good sort of um to to wet your pallet into that when talking about Hollywood release schedules. Um, this is now going to come out May 15th, 2026 uh instead of October 24th. And the reason I think that is being cited for this is Halloween time for movies is is
technically not a really great time for films. Sometimes if it's a high-profile horror movie, it will do well. Uh even some uh some mid-tier or indie stuff does well around Halloween, but traditionally the weekend of around Halloween, people are not going to the movies. People are going to parties, people are going trick-or-treating, people are staying home to give out candy, like whatever the thing is, right? So, I don't think that the studio had a ton of faith in this movie to start and then when the trailer released and it got something like a hundred million views or whatever and people did seem I have been I want to be more excited about it than I am. Um, but people have been overall I think positive towards it like looking like fun schllock which is fine for what Mortal Kombat can be. Um, I think the studio essentially decided, "Oh, wait. This might be good actually and moved it to the kickoff of their summer campaign in a slot that
they think it'll actually pull money for. I I I don't think this is like to give it more time in the oven. I think they have their budget and they've spent it um and it's basically done if not working on a couple last minute uh, you know, SFX shots or visual effects shots. Um, I just I found it very interesting that it seems like th this is the case of oh no, is this going to make us money? Actually, will it maybe we better try to have it make all the money? The argument here is I I don't know the exact films that it's going up against at least that time and that can also shift again. see our next story about what we're going to talk about. Like this could be great for it and it could be absolutely terrible for it because summer tends to be crowded. Um what are the other big films coming out in 2026? I'm trying to think. What What's Marvel dropping? Is it Spider-Man
first and then Avengers?
I have stopped paying attention to Spider-Man. The order to Marvel I have I have stopped caring unfortunately. Okay. Okay.
The next reason this can't be right. Hold on. I hate this and I don't want to just pull it from the like the Google AI BS.
Sure. Sure.
Uh let So as it stands now, there will be three releases in 2026. Avengers Doomsday on May 1st. That can't be right. That can't be right. Chad, is that right? Then Spider-Man. Oh, no. Uh, Spider-Man will be the July 31st, 2020. There's no way these are correct. There's no way. It can't be.
Doomsday. Dark Wolf. Yeah.
What's this?
Darkwolf says Doomsday is later now.
It has to be. There's no way in hell
Mortal Kombat would move to the 15th if Doomsday was
was the first. You It would just get swallowed. Anyway, Marvel's going to be moving stuff around for a while, it seems. I don't know. Will, I know you don't have a a dog in this particular race.
I do not. But it is an interesting like films tend to not have the same problem as what we're going to talk about next when games are released and the sort of window of sucking up all the air like like for instance a Marvel or an Avengers movie would do it and it will definitely pull ticket sales but like it's almost a balancing act of like how big do how big of a dog do you think your thing is?
Right. And this is telling me they actually think that Mortal Kombat 2 is a bigger dog than they thought it would be. Now, is it?
I mean, part of it, right, is just raw time investature, right? So, like, let let's say
that three big movies come out on the same weekend. It is entirely possible, though unlikely, that a diehard cinema file might go to a triple feature. That's certainly a thing that they could do. However, in cases of video games, you simply don't have the time.
Imagine, imagine for a moment, right? We will leave, we will leave Silkong out of this, right? Imagine for a moment that you are a huge fan of action combat games. and we'll knock it down to two and say that Monster Hunter Wilds and uh Elden Ring Night Reign dropped the same day. You can't play both to any real degree. The time investure is just too high. So, it's less of an issue, right? Like even even
if they both come out the same weekend, you could go see one Saturday and one Sunday. Like you don't even have to see them all the same day. The amount of time it takes to consume that media and for them to get money out of you for that piece of media with a movie is much less than the amount of time it takes for them to like Yeah. Right. Horizon. Yeah. Right. Horizon needed to announce a game that came out the same weekend to Silkong. Um Right. Like
Yeah, I I did get the final thing. So Spider-Man brand new day is July 31st, 2026. Doomsday is December 18th, 2026. So, Mortal Kombat will be well and truly out of the way of Marvel. Uh, I don't know exactly when um when um anything like a big DC thing is happening. I don't think next year. There could be. I don't know when Supergirl is launching.
I pay even less attention to DC than I do to Marvel.
Yeah. Delta, Silkong, and and uh
Monster Hunters title update. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep.
Anyway, let let's move on from the delayality and talk about release dates. Will, you want to kick us off?
Yeah. So, um, one of the big the other big, uh, issue that people have laid at Team Cherry's feet is that they have by by releasing Silk Song with only two weeks notice, um, have caused a huge disturbance in the video game sphere by causing other indies to move their launches to get out of the way of Silkong, which we'll discuss the merits of that We'll also discuss whether or not Team Cher's really responsible for that. Like they get to just release their game whenever they want. Do they have a response? Like why do people think they have a responsibility to do that? Right.
Like I don't I don't know that they they do. It's kind of an interesting question. Um and then uh the other part of this is that Silkong is being compared to this year's Grand Theft Auto 6. um which is doubly hilarious to me because Grand Theft Auto 6 is also uh
I believe erroneously but maybe it's true being called a quintuple a game by okay by by in a sound bite by one of the co-founders of Deolver Digital and the media has run with that for like 150 yards. Um
yeah, that is a a silly term that no one should use. uh when Ubisoft talked about quadruple a games uh you know whatever. No. Um it could be GTA 6 could be the most popular AAA game ever.
I'll I'll take that. Um but I refuse I refuse to do that.
Um yeah, it's it's interesting. So let's
how do we want to break this conversation down? Do you want to talk about like the now and then the later? like like the silk song of it all and like release dates and responsibilities and that sort of thing in the current time or do you want to like wrap it all together?
Uh we can we can do this we let's do the silk song bit first then we'll sort of move chronologically forward and talk about why this is going to be a huge problem for Grand Theft Auto. Um
yeah so so the the the stuff that has been leveled against sort of team cherry and uh the silk song of it all. So Silkong was officially announced what in February, but then the date of September
4th
uh 4th was announced at Gamescom somewhere around August 20th.
Two weeks in advance. Yes.
Two weeks in advance. That is not a long time for other games to get out of the way
if um
they want to.
If they want to. Uh and we could sort of talk about whether or not that's a a
good idea or a bad idea, etc. Um, so there's an argument to be made that because especially in the indie space and we can I know tune in for design club on Thursday to talk about exactly what that actually means.
Um, there is a bit more camaraderie. Well, there's a bit more No, uh, I'm gonna back up. There is a sense that everybody should be taking care of each other for taking care of each other's sake. At least on the in the outskirts, the ether of the vibes around the indie space, right?
Even though you could even with the Mortal Kombat discussion, you could talk about corporations do this all the time, not because of the vibes, but because there's an unspoken sort of thing of like, well, I like we don't want to eat into each other's sales. We all have things. Let's move a movie here. Let's do this. let's move a big AAA game there to fill our Q3 or what you know like
it's a balancing act of internal politics and external politics right um so so there's the the the thing that's been sort of leveled here is like did did Team Cherry break the the unspoken social contract of indie stuff by having their release date be announced only within two weeks of its Yeah.
Um because because it definitely sucked the air out of the room of every other uh essentially indie title for the week
and in and in general. So uh I do um a fair amount of cruising through news to make sure I haven't like missed something. Uh I check our Discord. If you're a patron channel member, uh subscriber on Twitch, you can head over to the Discord and see the industry news channel. I use that all the time to sort of keep a you know a handle on where the industry is going. Um, but I also do a
fair amount of reading, right? I'll read through like multiple news sites. All of them, all of them are currently SEO maxing for Silkong, right? So, like all other news has been disrupted as well. Um, because they're all desperately trying to get on top of being the authoritative place where you can go when you get stuck in Silkong, which is so weird to me, but okay. Right. Um I I just I feel like I Okay, I also want to be clear. I don't think any of us are saying that this is great for anyone, right? For any of the other devs, right? No one No one is saying like, "Ah, yes, this is a fantastic opportunity for all of the other devs." No, this definitely sucks to get your release date stepped on.
Yeah,
no question. But I don't know.
I don't know what obligation team Cherry had.
I mean, no true one, but there's there's
no I mean, like even under the social contract, like
I'll be I'll be devil's advocate uh for this, though I don't 100% believe this. I'll sort of talk the points like, okay, let's pretend that in February when the when Silkong was announced to exist, even though we all knew Silkong exist, um that they put the release date out then,
right?
Yeah.
And I'm going to let's put aside the fact that maybe they didn't even know if that was possible. You know, let's just pretend that that was how it went and everyone was comfortable with it. you know that gives a long period of time for people to um adjust release dates etc.
Yeah.
However, there is the financial element around this as well. And this actually is the interesting thing. There's an IGN article about all of this. You can find it in the show notes where it talked to
not only um I want to make sure I get these names right. I'm going to kind of scroll here. Who's the Deolver dev
uh co-founder? Nigel uh Lowry, who we mentioned before, but they also spoke to,
let me find his name real quick before I start talking in his voice, uh Adam Alib, uh who uh is the uh CEO of the marketing platform Gamesite. And basically um there's the financial element of especially for indie games even more so I think than a AAA title. You have the money you have. Chances are you know your release date like and what you can sustain until that release date and how much work and how much you can hold something because there's a real thing of even if your game has to release on the day of a big release your studio before you're actually depending on how tight your shoestring is your studio might need any amount of sales to stay
open to continue it depending on how you've managed your funds. So there's a yes more time would allow for companies to plan in a nonmonetary sense but if you're locked in already uh you might not even given 6 months or two weeks you might not even be able to move. There's a chance you can and the more time I think the better but there is a weird sort of cross-section of like well it's got to be where it's got to be. Uh and I know some games did move out of the way. Um uh who's uh some game some was it a YouTuber's game that they moved?
There's a bunch of them like there is a long list of games uh that have moved. Uh I can try and find that list. Um but I mean the the list has grown ever longer, right? And I think importantly to note um is that uh many of those
games have enjoyed increased publicity when they announced that they moved far in excess of what they would have gotten had they not moved or had Silkong not been released in proximity to them. Right? Because like part of the problem I think that we have is that we have a pretty tight grasp on the indie space in general because we track games, right? Like some of my favorite games are like a little to the left or right like um Nava or like any of these other like smaller team I love small team games. I think they're like polished small focused games. Love them, right? And so I think we have a a sense of it, right? that they're um that we pay attention to those, but other people may not unless they're moving out of the way of Silkong, right? They're kind of remoraying on Silkong's Great White Shark.
There's also because Silkong I mean we
don't even do we know how long it's roughly is at this point like it it I think it's Are we Are we assuming it's roughly the size of Hollow Knight after the expansions?
We're assuming it's larger.
Okay. So let's say and not everyone finishes games as well, right? So let's say uh I believe Leah uh also mentioned something in the article about like there's also a case where releasing things around the same time is also kind of helpful.
Uh I don't know if this entirely if I buy into this entirely, but there's the argument of they're going to finish a Metroid vania and if your game is similar in a Metroid vania, they're going to really probably want the next Metroid vania. Um, and if a high-profile thing has just made more people dive into Metroid Vanias, you've opened up the pool for your game.
Yep. On the flip side though, the the the launch day at literally the the Monster Hunter Wilds uh story, right, is is sort of part for the course here where like your opening week or your opening month is the most important thing to your
narrative because people that pay for these things are often not the people that stay a breast of the entire like media cycle of them. They are investors and shareholders and things that need easy numbers to understand. Oh wow, 10 million copies in this amount of time. That's impressive. like you're boiling down a user base and a success story to a sentence. Not doing big numbers in the beginning of or big for whatever you are um in the first week is can be a death kneel. However, then you get into like okay if we're talking about indies, how many people have that level of minutia or scrutiny? I I feel like it comes back down to like how much money you have in the bank, right? more than like how to best sell your metrics.
Yeah.
I'm also thinking of Isabelle and Doom guy, you remember?
Yeah. There's the Barbimer of it all, right? Like there's there's but those are two diff like
I don't think that there's any one like part of the problem is that those are larger games in a larger space that are bigger things like that don't share a lot of obvious crossover right Doom and Animal Crossing not exactly known to have like massive crossover but Barbie and Oppenheimer didn't on the surface have obvious crossover either uh and so the it feels a little different, right, than than that occurrence because this is causing a bunch of things to scurry and scatter out of the way. But I also want to push back and Silkong is a juggernaut, right? And no matter when it released or how much notice was given, there were going to be problems. And
if we okay if we say that we want games to come out complete if we say that we g we want devs to not crunch if we say we want games to be delayed more frequently and we have said all these things and I believe all those things right then at some point we do get to the world where you should just release the game when it's done in a perfect world, right, with a marketing push, whatever.
And this is kind of an example of that, right? This is an uncrunched game. They released it when they wanted to go, right? And it stinks that it's causing these ripple effects, but I do think that this is kind of an example of like just release the game when it's ready. It's not going anywhere, right? Like if we
Yeah.
So like I understand that there's like the headline of it all, right? that like there's some amount of like first week sales and first week impressions and and
like we even talked about like the day one play numbers on on Silkong and all of that, but like I would like to move to a world where games just exist in a continuum and stop being like it released and now it's not relevant anymore.
The problem is the media landscape just isn't built that way.
I agree.
Um like that's I I would love that too. I don't see that changing. Um, and you know what? This this Felder might have a a good point here. I feel like a lot of people complaining about Silk Saggy that tried to be part of the new cycle. They're just mad that they didn't get enough notice to take time off to play play release. I mean, from from a player perspective, maybe the from the dev perspective, if you planned that last week was the date your game was coming out, um, and then Silkong dropped on it, I hope that you had more than a couple
weeks worth of, uh, you know, money in your in your coffers to keep it going, right? There is a world where it wouldn't. But to Will, to your point, there's no there's no way that a large game releasing isn't going to suck the air out of the room, no matter how much we want to do it. Like, you know, perfect example, Snake Eater Delta came out last two weeks ago.
Sure.
No one's talking about it,
right?
That's a Metal Gear game.
Uh, an excellent one at that. I put it down to play Silkong now. There's I don't know it it it is complicated. So So in my opinion, could Team Cherry have given more notice uh from a moral perspective? Sure. I don't know how much it would actually have affected the betterment or detriment of other teams who are going to have to release around
the same time. What it comes down to, in my opinion, is this sucks. You have to have um in anything, especially when you're a small team, you have to have a savvy business person and you have to have a savvy socials person. And they need to be um nimble. Otherwise, you're not going to survive amongst juggernauts and have a chance to become a juggernaut yourself. That is the sad fact of the way that the media landscape is. And I think uh the the thing about even peak or or a couple other things that people were talking about here, right? Like
little witch in the woods or
acknowledge it, come out fun, connect it in a silly way, and say, "We'll see you in two weeks." Now, and and and you need you need the social person to do that, and you need the business person to do that to be able to make sure you can maintain for that at any given time.
Right? It is not, in my opinion, overall after discussing this for the last 20 minutes, fair to blame a team that has a large thing to to releasing something to suck all the air out of the room because they don't control the room and they don't
control your business and to operate sadly again. Will, I wish we did live in the space you were describing, but we don't and everyone who makes things in this world should know that or does know that. And therefore, you have to have contingencies. Listen, we even us, we've had issues with sort of things hitting at wrong times and things and luckily Jeff is on top of it or I've built stuff into the production schedule that can shift and like does it get tight? Yeah, absolutely. But like you got to you got to build contingency in.
Yeah,
I think that's where I come down to here.
I agree.
Um
and it stinks if if you haven't or you couldn't,
right?
No question. Yeah,
but we all know the space we're in.
And speaking of knowing the space we're in, looking forward, this is going to happen again, y'all. Right.
Yeah.
Yeah. So like in Okay, so no matter when
it announces, right, someone is gonna do that that like thing where they put their arm down on top of the table and like sweep everything off the desk dramatically and then put their arm like they're going to arm wrestle,
right? When GTA 6 comes out, when GTA 6 has announced that it might be out in the same time span, right? Because for all that the quintuple combat is stupid, um, it is projected to be one of the bestselling games ever. Now, will
I predict it's going to do what GTA 5 did and be the bestselling piece of media,
correct?
Ever.
Yeah, GTA V still sells about 5 million units a quarter. Just to put that in perspective, GTA 5, a game that is a decade old, according to numbers from Rockstar, still sells about 5 million copies per quarter.
I still play GTA Online.
I've I have it across three systems. It was that started on the PS
three. It was the three.
I can't even imagine that thing running on PS3 at this point.
Yeah. like like it's this is and not only do they sell copies for whatever reason they sell they like they still sell a ton of shark cards their in-game currency to get money to to do because what GTA's online's releases is an interesting business model excuse me is basically um their content that they release their their updates they do an update I think every like six months. I don't even know the the cadence. They all actually have started bleeding together. I'm I'm I'm I no longer do the newest thing in GTA Online. I simply just run my businesses the way I It's like it's like the comfort of the loop. Do you know what I mean? And if there's a new fun thing to buy, I'll buy it with my old Gotten games. But the the way
they release all of the things for free, but then you have to buy the stolen car warehouse in game with in-game currency. And you can earn that through doing jobs in the game. very very very very slowly or you can buy shark cards which is fake real money for fake money and they I mean that I feel like shark cards have like the Rockstar is built on those at this point. Um new guy the children yearn for the loop. Um I I and I agree with Gigi. I it is not it is not un it is not out of the realm of possibility. It's not it
I I
it's not like like truly did has m Did Minecraft take the throne from GTA 5? Is that where it was? I believe
as the most profitable piece of media.
Uh well not so different things. Number of copies sold of a video game versus profitable media. I think GTA 6 will
probably be more profitable, but Minecraft has sold 330 million copies and that was like a couple years ago. So, it's it is really hard to say, especially because companies hate releasing uh granular sales numbers until they hit big milestones. So, we probably won't hear accept at big like millions of copies milestones. And they do have like you know it's possible but I also am a little a little skeptical. Right.
Yeah. Uh the the rough translation is it is uh it generated over six billion in revenue by 2018.
Yeah.
GTA 5.
Yikes. So, look, and and here's here's the interesting thing, and I think you see this with Silkong, and you're going to see it with GTA 6. Silkong will never be
and could never be in the eyes of everyone better than Hollow Night.
Correct.
It's just not going to happen. Now also this is the second entry in a franchise. So this isn't like I know it was top down and whatever, but this is not GTA to GTA 2, right? This is not the same thing. We are five to six. We are 10 years out from the thing. Like it's actually weirdly roughly what is it? Eight years, nine years since Hollow Knight one. Uh
uh eight.
So like weird I know we're give or take a couple years, but like the the the dev cycle between the two games is kind of
for very different reasons, but yes.
For very different reasons, but it rhymes. You know what I mean? Right. Yeah.
So, but GTA 6 if it doesn't like slap on release could have a real uphill battle for it. Again, one I think it is very poised to still win at. But like think about Cyberpunk again and that's way smaller than this.
Yeah. So, uh, and I think what, uh, the Devolver co-CEO or founder was saying, and it's funny because it's Deolver, and so whenever I read something, I'm like, they're joking, right? I don't think they're actually like wanting to coin a quad a quintuple a game title here. That's just what news headlines have pulled out from it. I think they are trying to voice a concern uh of like yeah if everyone does not get out of the way of GTA 6 whenever it is released uh it is going to you're it's going to be they're assuming based on what GTA 5 did that for like almost a month no one's going to be talking about anything else.
Yeah.
In the news cycle. Um, and I I'd be c like I'm curious what other AAA studios in their games that they're releasing next year are actually like do when do we think will that GTA 6 will
release next year?
Do you think it's There's two possible places in my mind.
I think fall.
You think fall. I was saying summer or holidays. Yeah, it's definitely not early,
right? No,
it's definitely not early.
Um I'm thinking like late autumn, like
okay, think November. Some people in chat and a couple other things.
Yeah, people are saying May, June.
Oh, yeah. And the budget for for GTA 6 is insane. But again, they made six billion by 2018 off of the prequel of it.
Yeah.
Six billion.
Yeah. Could be a it releases now at the game awards kind of thing, but
I no way. There's no they they they want hype cycle.
They do. They they want to own the new cycle for like a couple weeks.
Yeah.
Um but yeah, it it it'll be interesting,
right? And I think that the other big important thing is this is probably one of the most visible ones because the of how much it's like weighted, but like the ocean of games is getting bigger and more and more companies are learning that they're going to have to share the ocean, right? Like we're not these are these are exceptions rather than the rule. But I think in the future it is entirely possible that like we won't have things that destabilize the entire release calendar quite this much. probably based on things that people have learned from this. But that's that's just my read.
Yeah, because right now like here's games that aren't gonna it isn't going to be in the way. So Resident Evil comes out in February, late February. Not going to eat into that. There's no way in hell. Uh actually, was it announc No, this did we miss the actual release date? I'm seeing on Games Radar it says May 26th for GTA 6. Is that correct? That might have been the last thing that someone said.
Reconfirmed. The latest entry would be released on May 26th. So, it will be beginning of summer. Rockstar. It's on their website. Should have looked that up before I started rambling about it.
Uh, okay. However, uh, I I will push back.
Not yet available on Steam.
Uh,
I don't know if it's going to release on PC. I think it's only console first. They've always done that. It's silly, but they've always done it.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah. I guess it's been so long since one of them has come out that like it's easy to forget. Yeah. I I do think it's a choice right now to not do that, but it doesn't really impact me either way because I have zero interest in it. So,
I know the thing the thing about Grand Theft Auto, it's it literally is what if Madden but for everybody. Like, it's it's it's a game that people will it is
a system seller for whatever you're used to. If you haven't owned an Xbox since 360 or you haven't owned a PlayStation since 3, a new GTA will will push consoles. They will sell consoles because people are always chasing the dragon of their youth, whether it's in in video games or elsewhere. Myself very much included. Right. So, uh, I think that GTA is one of the only franchises that can actually do that. That is like that it can actually like push push. What do you got, Will?
Oh, my camera's autofocusing and I'm annoyed.
Oh, you looked confused. I thought it was what I was saying.
No, no, no. I'm I'm tracking what you're saying. I'm spreading that word butter all over my ear, bread, but like
you're welcome. Uh,
amazing.
No, I just hate when I go out of focus. Well,
that deserves that deserves the dregs of my insanely good coffee.
Yeah, I I will be uh I will be very interested to see if it delays. And if so, if everyone panics, if everyone panics when it like and it delays, I I I
will be very interested to see like how everything scurries and scatters.
Yeah, let's Okay, we have a couple more minutes, right? Because again, I've moved all my meetings to uh 1:30, so we have a little bit of time before we wrap up. Let's talk about what if. So, everyone has now planned around May 26th. It's on uh as of May 2nd, 2025, it's on Rockstar's website. What if it moves? Going back through the the list of games like that are coming out after
who flinches, right?
Oh, everyone flinches. No one no one stays right
now. How they flinch. Uh oh. Enter the dungeon, too. Watch out. I'll play the dungeon for I will gladly be one of the people not playing Grand Theft Auto 6.
I I will be taking the opposite view on the channel which is sometimes we want to be in big directories like Silkong which will be in right after this. Um and sometimes we just want to get out of the way and let other people be in those
directories and I'll just be over there playing Enter the Dungeon having a good time.
It's funny. Uh you know what's funny? Uh, I want to give a shout out to a game that I don't know the actual release date, but it's saying 2026 that I initially was not psyched about. Uh, and after seeing it, uh, watching Balvin play it at PAX, uh, I am psyched about. Uh, Pragmata. Have you heard of that, Will? It's the You look like a Dead Space, uh, armor robot guy, but you have a little girl in your back and a blue jacket.
I have not seen that.
Have you seen the ads for that? Looked like a real run-of-the-mill uh, is it Konami or Capcom? Capcom. um looked like a real run-of-the-mill like third party shooter, but it has a mechanic in it that I was very impressed when I saw it in person. Um it it it does what I would essentially call the uh evolution of active reload where the little girl on your back actively you do an active hacking um miniame puzzle in the middle of a firefight to like weaken enemies, reveal things, open container like it it
flowed really nice. The only way I can describe it is the evolution of an active reload system.
Like uh so I was actually I will be probably checking out uh Pragmata upon release because it was something that I was like oh this looks like genero whatever but the the actual gameplay good. It was a good good booth at packs.
Good.
Um no Odin not Death Stranding. Um yeah. Uh so actually I was just looking at the releases of what's slated and other than Resident Evil. Oh, and then March, I guess, first Light, the 007 game. Who knows if that's whatever? But the rest of it, like no one really has full release dates, but there's not a ton of like huge things coming out. Romeo is a Dead Man I'm psyched for. Also, Dusk Bloods I'm psyched for, but those don't even Oh, and Soros, of course, my Returnal. I need to platinum Returnal before Sorrowos comes out. Um,
it feels like it's a black hole, right? That is just like sucked in everything that was vaguely adjacent to it. And if it moves, everything else will have to move or get sucked into it, too. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Which, you know, will be interesting to watch. But I think I do think it is supremely interesting to me that we're getting a indie version of the same occurrence on like a micro like relatively speaking micro scale.
We got a preview.
Yeah, we got a preview of what this is going to do uh to the news cycle and to the industry and to the release cycle for like the period around it, which is fascinating to me. And to wrap up this conversation, because I know we've been going for a while, I actually want to ask chat, Brad and Janet and uh Rocky, if
and I think I know the answer to this because again the you're if you're watching the show, you're in a very specific group of people. Um do you like the hype cycle? And by that I mean because some I'll admit it. I think I do like the hype cycle. I think it helps me keep it helps keep me uh engaged with it. I get sick of it if it runs too
long, but the size of the game obviously or the cultural weight of the game affects how long I'm comfortable with it. But like because we are human and because we don't have infinite attention spans, more often than not, I find comfort in the news cycle focusing on a specific thing to then at least like let me know where to look first.
Mhm.
And then if I want something different, I can dig a little more. But like how does everyone else feel about that? Will, what are you what are you thinking about that as people sort of cycle in?
I I think I'm too tired of it.
Sure.
I think like I don't I think I absorb the information that the hype cycle is putting out, but I never actually get hype about it. Like I'm not even hype about Silkong. Like I'm I'm I am play I it is all burned away to like the glowing embers of like yeah I will play
the game and I will enjoy it and for what it is and nothing more than what it is and not expect anything more than what it is in this moment. Right. Sure.
I'm not I think I'm at the point where I think in part because I'm deeper into Magic and Wizards has like deeply abused the hype cycle. Right. For for anyone unfamiliar, Magic is now constantly in previews. We were the pre that sucks,
right? So, we had the pre-release weekend for the last set which came out for Magic the Gathering: Edge of Eternities. The same preview, the same weekend that people got their hands on those cards for the first time was San Diego Comic Con weekend and we they began previews for both Spider-Man and Avatar and completely stepped on Edge of Eternity's release. No one's talking about Edge of Eternities anymore. It got completely overwhelmed by Spider-Man and
Spider-Man drops later this month and then after that uh Avatar drops later this year, right? So they've had they've been stepping on their own releases. So I think I'm used to that kind of thing from that angle and I'm just done with it, right? Like I just don't I don't it takes more than that to ar like to to to cause me to rise to like hype, right? It's not it's not it. Right.
Also, I'm just I love how engaged everyone is with this conversation. I've just been cycling takes as Will has been talking
and they've all been and I also want to thank everyone. They've all been good, sensible, personal takes on the how it makes you feel, right? Because this is not there is not an objectively correct answer on how marketing works and how this industry works. There are just the ways that we are going to emotionally engage with this, right? And how we continue to emotionally engage with the art that we love that we spend our free time on, right?
Yeah. Uh I don't know. It's a super
interesting topic. Obviously, we'll hit it next year when when GTA hits. Um, but yeah, let's uh let's let's wrap up. Let's go into our last story. Speaking of hype cycle, n speaking of hype cycle, I do I did I'm I'm just excited that they confirmed this. Okay, Sample Interactive would like to remind you that the title of this video game is not Expedition 33. It is Claire obscure colon expedition 33 and have confirmed that there will be other not expedition 33 Clare obscure games. We kind of suspected that and there's like if you've played Clare Obscure and no spoilers at all,
you understand why, right? Um, I'm just excited that they that they
have confirmed what a lot of us suspected, that this was not a one-off and that this was going to be more that we're going to get more. Um, I'm very excited. Uh, maybe make those letters more prominent, you know. Great, great point. Uh, I'm sure we'll talk to their visual design team about it.
Uh, I this is the kind of, and again, this is all part of the hype cycle, right? Like the team has announced that they're going to work on other games in the Clare obscure universe.
That's pretty cool. I like this. I you know,
yes, you do.
You do. Absolutely. Okay. But again,
you can skip
uh you have to play one through nine and then play every third one. And the mobile games, which aren't available anymore, uh you need to just watch YouTube videos for the story on because if you don't, then you're going to be lost. Um, and no, this is not a subtle dig to the House of the Mouse's Final Fantasy game. Okay. Um,
yeah. Uh, Daz is completely correct. Just like Elder Scrolls 5, Skyrim isn't just Skyrim. Correct. Right.
There is an Elder Scrolls game that we'll never get to see.
It still says 2026. And I'm like, "No, it's no way."
No, it's not.
Although they shadow dropped Oblivion. Who knows what Bethesda is doing? Who knows?
Yeah. I like I like Wickl's idea. [Laughter] Do expedition 233. Yes, correct. No notes. Perfection. Yeah. Um, hold on. Simothy, I hate you. The best one is Clare Obscure 16.8 by two days final mix featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry franchise and Knuckles. Correct.
Actually, that was my favorite. So, I'm glad I'm glad that Sleeper hit really got into the zeitgeist.
Yeah.
Um
Yeah. No, I I think it's um this is and again I'm not hyped for this,
but I am I am pleasantly like
optimistic, right? That a thing that I liked a lot and I need to play again because I again, and this is a weird thing that only happens to it doesn't only happen to streamers, but it happens a lot to streamers. Our playthrough is influenced by a variety of external factors and the way we play on stream and offstream is very different. I think I need to replay Expedition 33.
Yeah.
Um
I need to play it for the first time. It's a game I just didn't have time to play, but everyone loves it. Um
it's real good. Um yeah, I'm Anyway, they they've confirmed uh and I'm I'm super excited for that. Uh well optimistic and that dear friends
is is our show for today.
I love it.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
I love it.
Yeah.
It's a good show.
Yeah.
Hey everyone, thanks for being a part of a good show.
Good show. Yeah. I uh I appreciate all
of you being here. Uh thank you. Uh and chat has been incredibly engaged and incredibly uh helpful today on on all fronts. So, thank you all so very much for that. Do deeply appreciate when when Chad gets engaged with this cuz um
we are just two dudes in an animated kitchen. Uh and and you all make this a show that we love doing.
Uh Will, is there a way for people to get directly in contact with you or I to discuss any of these things on possibly a social media app that isn't a burning hellscape?
Why yes, Matt. I'm so glad you asked. We're both available on Blue Sky. You can find him at matthew.wtv Nebula TV and me at whatwillplay.bbeasty.social. We're both on there regularly. You can find us uh posting things of various levels of intelligence depending on the day and our mood.
You never know. You never never know.
Correct.
Uh my last post before today on there was about Oh, uh shout out real quick. Uh if you're looking for an excellent horror film, especially around spooky
season, uh that is a psychological mind uh wiggly wobbled. Uh we just reviewed the film on the only podcast about movies called Cure. It's a Japanese film from 1997. It is not everyone's cup of tea. It is a very distinct cup of tea. Uh and it is not an overly gory, for the most part cup of tea. So uh it is it is chef's kiss. Check out that film if you're looking for something around spooky season.
Excellent. Excellent.
Well,
I guess that's it for the show.
Yeah, I think that's that's all the all that's left to do now is for uh Matt to do the the same sign off he does every time uh to sort of bring us together and and close out the show.
That's right. And I think to do that, and the reason why we do it, of course, is because we want to make sure that everyone feels involved and and and connected with the Games for Breakfast, um, URA, uh, make sure we're all kind of in the same space and go into the week as
productive members of the video game community. So, with that in mind, I think I just want to actually I'm going to make a I'm going to make a change to the show uh, and announce it here. And everyone already knows we do this the same every week, so this is all sort of par for the course, right? Uh, I think we're just gonna take what is known from the channel, right, games, and just get it out of the title and and now. So, thank you so much for joining us for breakfast. [Applause] [Music]
