Bandai Namco
Bandai Namco Holdings’ financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, reflect a period of mixed performance across its diversified entertainment portfolio. The company reported consolidated net sales of 772.0 billion yen for the nine-month period, representing a 3.9% increase compared to the previous year. However, operating profit experienced a significant decline, falling to 78.3 billion yen, a 26.3% decrease from the same period in the prior fiscal year. This contraction in profitability is largely attributed to challenges within the Digital Entertainment segment, which saw operating margins compress to 0.6%.
The Toys and Hobby segment emerged as the primary growth driver, achieving 390.2 billion yen in sales—a 13.1% year-over-year increase—and contributing 69.7 billion yen in operating profit. Key intellectual properties, particularly One Piece, Mobile Suit Gundam, and Dragon Ball, remained central to this success. Conversely, the Digital Business segment faced headwinds, with sales declining to 263.0 billion yen as home video game unit sales dropped to 29.2 million, down from 38.7 million in the previous year.
Geographically, the company’s operations remain heavily concentrated in Japan, which generated 556.3 billion yen in sales. While international markets in Europe and Asia showed modest growth, the Americas region experienced a notable decline in both sales and operating profit. The company continues to expand its physical footprint, managing 1,114 amusement facilities globally as of the third quarter. Looking ahead, management has adjusted full-year forecasts to account for these trends, while noting that future profit figures will be influenced by the anticipated sale of investment securities.
