The company recorded net sales of 723.99 billion yen, representing 98.9% of the previous year’s results, while operating profit reached 78.78 billion yen, or 93.7% of the prior year’s figures. These results encompass the company’s diverse global operations, including segments in toys and hobby, network entertainment, real entertainment, visual and music production, and intellectual property creation.
Segment performance varied, with the Toys and Hobby business demonstrating resilience by achieving 253.71 billion yen in sales, a 4.5% increase over the previous year. Conversely, the Network Entertainment segment, which includes home video games and network content, saw sales of 328.08 billion yen, a slight decline of 3.8%. The Real Entertainment segment faced challenges, particularly in the latter half of the fiscal year, resulting in an operating loss of 1.50 billion yen. Geographically, Japan remained the primary market, contributing 578.92 billion yen in sales, while the Americas and Asia regions showed growth, with sales increasing by 14.4% and 2.1%, respectively.
The company maintained significant investment in its core business drivers, allocating 81.47 billion yen to game content research and development and 44.37 billion yen to advertising. Key intellectual properties, such as Dragon Ball, Mobile Suit Gundam, and One Piece, continued to serve as major revenue pillars across the group. Due to the unpredictable impact of the novel coronavirus, management opted not to disclose consolidated earnings projections for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2021, at the time of reporting, citing the difficulty of calculating accurate forecasts under prevailing conditions.
