Bandai Namco
The Bandai Namco Group’s fiscal year 2018 financial results demonstrate significant growth, characterized by strong performance across its core entertainment segments. For the fiscal year ended March 2018, the company reported net sales of 678.3 billion yen, representing an increase of 58.3 billion yen over the previous year. Operating profit reached 75.0 billion yen, an 11.8 billion yen improvement, while profit attributable to owners of the parent rose to 54.1 billion yen. This growth was supported by a substantial increase in capital investments, which totaled 54.8 billion yen, alongside continued high levels of R&D spending in game content.
The Network Entertainment segment served as a primary driver of this success, bolstered by robust global performance in network content—specifically titles like Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle—and healthy sales of both new and repeat home video game titles. The Toys and Hobby segment also contributed positively, particularly in Japan and Asia, where established intellectual properties and products targeting mature fan bases performed well. While the Visual and Music Production segment experienced slight fluctuations, the overall consolidated results exceeded initial forecasts, leading to a total annual dividend of 123 yen per share.
Looking ahead, the group’s strategy focuses on the "IP Axis" approach, which seeks to maximize the value of intellectual properties through cross-segment collaboration, including toys, games, and live events. Future plans emphasize aggressive investment in new IP creation, expansion into the Chinese market, and the integration of new technologies such as virtual reality. Despite a conservative outlook for the 2019 fiscal year, which projects net sales of 650 billion yen and operating profit of 60 billion yen, the company remains committed to its mid-term vision of global entertainment innovation and the optimization of its personnel and infrastructure to sustain long-term growth.
