Bandai Namco
The Bandai Namco Group’s financial results for the first half of the fiscal year ending March 2012 demonstrate significant growth in both net sales and operating income compared to the previous year. The group reported net sales of 194.2 billion yen and an operating income of 15.7 billion yen for the first half, representing substantial increases over the prior year’s figures of 173.5 billion yen and 5.0 billion yen, respectively. These results exceeded initial forecasts, prompting the company to raise its full-year projections to 420 billion yen in net sales and 25 billion yen in operating income.
Performance was driven by strong results across the Toys and Hobby and Content segments. The Toys and Hobby division benefited from robust domestic sales of established character franchises such as Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, alongside successful digital card game performance. The Content segment, which includes arcade games, video game software, and network services, saw a significant turnaround, moving from an operating loss in the previous year to a profit of 5.3 billion yen. This success was attributed to strong arcade machine sales, popular video game titles like Tales of Xillia, and the expansion of social game subscribers.
The group’s strategy focuses on maximizing content value through cross-media marketing, strengthening domestic development for video games, and expanding its digital and social gaming footprint. While the Amusement Facility segment faced minor challenges due to energy-saving initiatives in Japan, the group maintains a positive outlook, emphasizing the integration of popular character intellectual property across all business units. By leveraging its diverse portfolio of visual, music, and interactive content, the organization aims to solidify its position as a leading global entertainment innovator.
