A Study of Physical Fitness and Enjoyment on Virtual Running for Exergames
Key insights
7 takeaways- 01Virtual running in VR exergames can be effectively implemented using motion-based locomotion techniques, specifically ArmSwing for aerobic exercise and Squat for strength training.See it on page 1
- 02Experimental results showed no statistically significant difference in user enjoyment between ArmSwing and Squat postures, with both scoring high on the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale (PACES) at 34 and 34.47 out of 40, respectively.See it on page 13
- 03Motion sickness levels showed no significant difference between the two techniques, with 79.17% of participants reporting no abnormal symptoms during the study.See it on page 11
- 04The ArmSwing posture is better suited for extended play sessions, while the Squat posture is preferred by users for shorter durations due to the higher physical exertion required.See it on page 14
- 05Heart rate data indicated higher intensity for the Squat posture (114.97 BPM) compared to the ArmSwing posture (106.23 BPM) during short-term testing.See it on page 13
- 06Both locomotion techniques achieved System Usability Scale (SUS) scores exceeding 80.3, indicating excellent usability for VR exergame applications.See it on page 1
- 07There is a statistically significant correlation between system usability and user enjoyment, suggesting that higher perceived ease of use directly contributes to a more positive exercise experience in VR.See it on page 13
