The game generated an estimated $610 million in gross revenue during this period.
Top Earner. Counter-Strike 2 was the highest-grossing game on Steam in H1 2024, generating an estimated $610 million in gross revenue.
The Steam platform’s revenue landscape for the first half of 2024 demonstrates a clear dominance of established live-service titles alongside a select group of high-performing new releases. An analysis of gross revenue data, compiled using insights from GameDiscoverCo and Gamalytic, reveals that 12 titles surpassed the $50 million threshold during this period. Counter-Strike 2 led the market with $610 million in gross revenue, followed by Helldivers 2 at $458 million and Palworld at $378 million.
The top 10 list is largely populated by evergreen hits and long-standing live-service games, including PUBG: Battlegrounds, Apex Legends, Baldur’s Gate 3, Dota 2, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Elden Ring, and Destiny 2. While new releases like Helldivers 2 and Palworld represent significant outliers, the broader market remains heavily reliant on older titles that maintain consistent revenue through long-term player engagement. Specifically, 33% of the games grossing over $50 million were new releases, while 37% of those in the $25–50 million range were new.
The data highlights a robust ecosystem for back-catalog titles, with 88 older games generating between $5 million and $10 million annually. This trend suggests that the increasing number of top-earning games on Steam is primarily driven by the accumulation of evergreen titles rather than solely by new market entrants. The analysis underscores that while new games can achieve massive immediate success, the platform's financial stability is anchored by a deep library of established games that continue to attract new players over time.
