The way users interact with a simulation and their physical posture are fundamental to how well they absorb professional handling protocols.
Like learning to ride a bike, the physical act of doing it is crucial, not just watching a video.
Core insight. Interaction methods and physical posture are fundamental determinants of how effectively a trainee absorbs professional handling protocols.
Virtual reality offers a superior training environment for dangerous goods unloading simulations compared to traditional desktop interfaces. By leveraging immersive technology, these simulations foster higher levels of user engagement, flow, and competence, which are critical for mastering complex, high-stakes tasks. While both platforms generate comparable levels of tension and negative affect, the virtual reality medium provides a distinct advantage in creating a more compelling and effective learning experience, largely driven by the heightened sense of presence and the immediate impact of the technology.
The analysis, which evaluates user experience through the Game Experience Questionnaire, confirms that the interaction method and physical posture are fundamental determinants of how effectively a trainee absorbs professional handling protocols. Although the novelty of virtual reality contributes to its initial success, the findings suggest that the platform’s capacity to simulate realistic, task-oriented scenarios makes it a more robust tool for safety training. The data indicates that the choice of hardware is not merely a preference but a significant variable that dictates the depth of the user’s cognitive and emotional involvement.
Future development in the field of serious games must prioritize the integration of diverse interaction systems to maximize training outcomes. As the industry moves toward more sophisticated simulation models, the focus should shift from simple platform comparison to rigorous performance analysis. By refining how users interact with virtual environments, developers can ensure that these simulations translate into improved safety standards and professional proficiency in the handling of dangerous goods. This evolution is essential for bridging the gap between theoretical training and real-world operational excellence.
