Sony Group Corporation’s consolidated financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, ending December 31, 2025, reflect a period of structural transition following the partial spin-off of its Financial Services business. Under the new reporting structure, the company now classifies Financial Services as an equity-method investment, presenting it separately from continuing operations. This shift, combined with operational performance across its core segments, resulted in a 1% year-on-year increase in sales to 3.71 trillion yen and a 22% rise in operating income to 515 billion yen for the quarter.
Key drivers of this growth included a strong performance in the Imaging & Sensing Solutions segment, which saw a 21% increase in sales, and a significant boost in corporate-level operating income, partially attributed to the realization of gains from land transfers related to the spin-off. Conversely, the Game & Network Services segment experienced a 4% decline in sales due to lower hardware unit volume, though it maintained strong user engagement, with monthly active users on the PlayStation Network reaching a record 132 million. The Music segment performed well, benefiting from increased streaming and live event revenues, while the Pictures segment saw a decline compared to the previous year’s blockbuster-heavy performance.
Looking ahead, Sony has raised its full-year fiscal 2025 forecast for continuing operations, projecting total sales of 12.3 trillion yen and operating income of 1.54 trillion yen. These upward revisions are supported by positive momentum in the Music and Imaging & Sensing Solutions segments. Management remains cautious regarding external risks, including potential impacts from shifting U.S. tariff policies, foreign exchange volatility, and the competitive pressures inherent in global technology and entertainment markets.
