Sony Group Corporation’s second-quarter financial results for fiscal year 2025 reflect a period of strategic restructuring and solid operational performance. Following the partial spin-off of its Financial Services business, which is now classified as a discontinued operation, the company reported consolidated sales of 3.1 trillion yen for continuing operations, representing a 5% year-on-year increase. Operating income rose 10% to 429 billion yen, with an improved operating margin of 13.8%. These results were driven primarily by strong performance in the Music and Imaging & Sensing Solutions segments, which offset declines in the Pictures and Entertainment, Technology & Services divisions.
The company’s performance across segments was varied. The Game & Network Services segment saw a 4% revenue increase, though operating income declined due to non-recurring impairment losses related to Bungie, Inc. and corrections in capitalized development costs. Conversely, the Imaging & Sensing Solutions segment experienced a 15% surge in sales and a 50% increase in operating income, fueled by higher demand for mobile image sensors. The Music segment also showed significant growth, bolstered by streaming revenue and strong contributions from visual media properties.
Looking ahead, Sony has upwardly revised its full-year fiscal 2025 forecast for sales and operating income by 300 billion yen and 100 billion yen, respectively. This outlook incorporates the anticipated impact of recent U.S. tariff policies, which are now estimated to affect operating income by 50 billion yen. The company maintains a positive trajectory, supported by favorable foreign exchange trends and robust demand in key technology and entertainment sectors. These financial disclosures are prepared in accordance with IFRS Accounting Standards, excluding the now-separated Financial Services business.
