Stream Hatchet
Influencer-led co-streaming has begun to outperform official broadcast channels in both reach and audience engagement.
Key Trend. Viewers increasingly prefer the personalized commentary and entertainment value provided by influencer co-streams.
The Six Invitational 2024 demonstrates a significant shift in esports viewership, where influencer-led co-streaming has begun to outperform official broadcast channels in both reach and audience engagement. By partnering with high-profile creators such as Jynxzi, Gaules, and shroud, Ubisoft successfully leveraged existing fan bases to amplify the event's visibility. The analysis confirms that co-streaming is no longer merely a supplementary viewing option but a primary driver of esports consumption, offering a more personalized and interactive experience that resonates more deeply with modern audiences than traditional, intricately directed broadcasts.
Data from the event highlights the dominance of co-streamers, who accounted for 1 million hours watched during the grand final compared to 898,000 hours on official channels. Peak viewership for the grand final followed a similar trend, with co-streamers reaching 308,000 concurrent viewers against 211,000 on official streams. Individual performance was particularly notable, as creator Jynxzi achieved an average minute viewership of 112,000 during the final, surpassing the official Rainbow6 channel’s 88,000.
Beyond raw viewership, co-streaming channels fostered significantly higher levels of active participation. Across the entire event, co-streams generated 11.2 million chat messages from 519,000 participants, resulting in 81.3% higher engagement per user than official streams. This surge in activity is attributed to the unique synergy between high-demand esports content and the personal connection fans feel toward their preferred streamers. The findings suggest that for brands and organizers, strategic partnerships with co-streamers are essential for maximizing ROI and ensuring that marketing messages reach an activated, highly engaged audience. This approach represents a critical evolution in esports marketing, prioritizing influencer-led community building over centralized broadcast control.
