Stream Hatchet
The platform offers a 95-5 revenue split and direct-to-streamer tips.
The live streaming platform Kick has emerged as a notable competitor to established services like Twitch and YouTube, driven by a creator-centric model that features a 95-5 revenue split and incentives for consistent viewership. Launched in late 2022, the platform has successfully attracted high-profile streamers, particularly those seeking alternatives to restrictive content policies on other sites. The platform’s growth trajectory is analyzed through the performance of its top five channels during the week of April 5–11, 2023, comparing their average minute audience (AMA) on Kick against their 2022 performance on legacy platforms.
Data indicates varied results among top creators. AdinRoss led the platform with an AMA of 52,192, maintaining performance levels comparable to his previous Twitch metrics. Other creators, such as Trainwreckstv and Buddha, saw their AMA figures decline compared to their 2022 averages, though these drops are contextualized by platform-specific content restrictions and multi-platform broadcasting strategies. Conversely, Destiny experienced significant growth, more than doubling his 2022 YouTube AMA upon moving to Kick.
Methodological observations suggest that while Kick is gaining traction, its metrics may be subject to different technical standards than its competitors. Internal testing revealed that Kick counts multiple instances of the same browser as unique viewers, a discrepancy that does not occur on Twitch. This technical difference raises concerns regarding the potential for inflated viewership metrics or botting. As the platform matures, these findings highlight both the competitive appeal of Kick’s revenue model and the necessity for continued scrutiny of its audience measurement practices.
