Square Enix Holdings
Square Enix Holdings reported strong financial growth for the six-month period ending September 30, 2015, driven primarily by the performance of its Digital Entertainment segment. Consolidated net sales reached 86.4 billion yen, representing an increase of 13.2 billion yen compared to the same period in the previous year. Operating income rose to 12.6 billion yen, up from 8.5 billion yen, while net income grew to 7.3 billion yen. These results reflect a broader upward trend in the company’s profitability and market reach across its primary business divisions.
The Digital Entertainment segment served as the primary revenue engine, contributing 60.2 billion yen in net sales and 12.9 billion yen in operating income. This performance was supported by a diversified portfolio, including high-definition (HD) games, massively multiplayer online (MMO) titles, and a consistent pipeline of games for smart devices and PC browsers. While the company noted a reactionary decline in MMO expansion disc sales and increased advertising expenditures for upcoming HD titles, the overall segment maintained a healthy operating margin of 21.5%.
The company’s other segments, including Amusement, Publication, and Merchandising, showed varied results. The Amusement segment benefited from the integration of e-money payment systems in arcades, while the Publication segment focused on digital distribution and media-mix strategies to mitigate the impact of fewer hit titles compared to the previous year. Looking ahead, Square Enix maintained a positive outlook for the full fiscal year, projecting consolidated net sales between 200 and 220 billion yen. The company continues to prioritize international expansion and the development of high-quality content to sustain its competitive position in a rapidly evolving global market.
