Square Enix Holdings
Square Enix Holdings reported its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, highlighting a period of strategic transition characterized by a decline in total net sales but an improvement in overall profitability. Consolidated net sales reached 324.5 billion yen, down from 356.3 billion yen in the previous fiscal year. Despite the lower top-line revenue, operating income rose to 40.5 billion yen, up from 32.5 billion yen, resulting in an improved operating income margin of 12.5 percent.
The Digital Entertainment segment, the company’s primary revenue driver, experienced a decline in net sales to 206.5 billion yen. However, the segment saw a significant recovery in operating profit, which reached 33.8 billion yen compared to 25.4 billion yen in the prior year. This profit growth was largely attributed to the successful performance of HD games, specifically the strong reception of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, alongside a reduction in valuation losses on content production accounts. Conversely, the Games for Smart Devices and PC Browser sub-segment faced headwinds due to the underperformance of existing titles and the absence of royalty revenue recognized in the previous year. The MMO sub-segment provided stability, with operating income increasing to 21.9 billion yen following the release of the Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail expansion.
Other business segments showed mixed results. The Amusement division reported growth, with net sales rising to 71.2 billion yen and operating income reaching 7.8 billion yen, driven by strong same-store sales and arcade machine performance. The Publication segment remained generally solid but saw a slight decline in both sales and profit, largely due to a year-over-year comparison against the peak popularity of The Apothecary Diaries. The Merchandising segment maintained steady growth, with operating income increasing to 6.0 billion yen behind strong demand for character goods. The company concluded the fiscal year with a strengthened cash position of 247.7 billion yen.
