Pride and Diversity: Links, Tips and Resources

Gamecity Hamburg published a curated list of links, events, and organizations in June 2022 to mark Pride Month, aimed at LGBTQ+ game developers, employers, and allies. The central premise is that diversity has become a core topic for the games industry, and that information, visibility, and networking are essential to progress. The publisher frames the list as an expression of solidarity with the Pride movement and as a starting point rather than a comprehensive directory, inviting readers to submit missing resources by email. The focus is on the German games industry and Hamburg, with several international entries.

The resources section highlights three items: a diversity guide from game, the Association of the German Games Industry, covering fundamentals, company best practices, and concrete steps toward more diverse studios; Games for Change, which curates socially impactful games including LGBTQ+ titles; and the LGBTQ Video Game Archive, maintained by professor Adrienne Shaw, which documents the history of LGBTQ+ representation in digital games.

Organizations and networks include the "Hier spielt Vielfalt" campaign launched by game in 2019, with a signable joint declaration, and its UK counterpart #RaiseTheGame from Ukie and partner companies. Gay Gaming Professionals supports LGBTQ+ talent with education, training, job search, and company founding assistance. Orbital, an LGBTQ-friendly Discord community for game developers, had grown to roughly 400 users.

Events span the Gayming Magazine DIGIPRIDE digital festival (June to August), a free LGBTQIA+ Inclusion & Diversity hackathon on June 24-26, the "Pride Our Way" virtual event for disabled and chronically ill LGBTQIA+ people on June 24-25, and an American Marketing Association session on inclusive workplaces held June 10. Local programming centers on Hamburg Pride Week 2022, starting with Pride Night on July 30 and culminating in the CSD Parade on August 6.
