Playstudios
Playstudios experienced a challenging third quarter in 2025, characterized by a significant contraction in financial performance and ongoing operational restructuring. Net revenue for the quarter fell to $57.6 million, a 19.1% decline compared to the same period in 2024, contributing to a net loss of $9.1 million. For the first nine months of the year, revenue dropped to $179.7 million from $221.6 million, while the company’s consolidated AEBITDA decreased to $30.4 million. These results were primarily driven by a reduction in Daily Active Users and Daily Paying Users, although the company managed to achieve an 8% increase in Average Daily Revenue Per Daily Active User during the quarter.
To address these headwinds, the company implemented a major reorganization plan that reduced its global workforce by approximately 30%. While this initiative, alongside lower user acquisition costs, successfully reduced total operating expenses by 16.5% for the first nine months of 2025, it has not yet offset the broader decline in revenue from the playGAMES and playAWARDS segments. Despite these fiscal pressures, the company maintains a stable liquidity position with $106.3 million in cash and no outstanding debt under its current credit facility. Strategic efforts to bolster the portfolio included the $6.8 million acquisition of Pixode Games and the continuation of a stock repurchase program, which retains $40.2 million in remaining authorization.
Legal and regulatory risks remain a significant factor for the business. The company has reached an agreement in principle to settle class-action lawsuits alleging that its titles constitute illegal gambling, with $3.3 million accrued for this purpose. Furthermore, it continues to defend against additional civil litigation and arbitration demands regarding gambling and privacy statutes. While management maintains that these claims lack merit, the ongoing legal environment, combined with the need to revitalize user engagement within its loyalty-driven business model, represents a critical focus for the company as it navigates the remainder of the fiscal year.
