The Esports Advocate
Playfly Sports has officially rebranded its collegiate esports division, transitioning from the NACE Starleague moniker to Playfly College Esports. This strategic shift aims to integrate the division more closely with the parent company’s broader operational infrastructure and back-office resources. While the branding has changed, the organization maintains its existing operational team, signaling a focus on continuity while leveraging Playfly’s wider corporate capabilities to enhance service delivery for partners, publishers, and sponsors.
The rebranding coincides with a leadership update, as Curtis Winger, the Vice President of Esports Operations, assumes the role of league commissioner. Winger will collaborate with an advisory committee composed of representatives from participating schools to guide competition governance. The division continues to manage a diverse portfolio of titles and events, including the Collegiate Chess League, the eNASCAR College iRacing Series, the PUBG MOBILE Campus Championship, and BIG EAST Esports.
To support this new chapter, the organization has launched a dedicated website and announced a commitment to provide over $150,000 in scholarship prizing for the 2024–2025 academic year. Future initiatives include the introduction of new weekly broadcasts and the hosting of an annual LAN Grand Finals, scheduled for May 2–4, 2025. These efforts reflect a broader strategy to standardize and professionalize the collegiate esports experience across both Varsity and Open competition levels within the North American market.
