The launch of the inaugural Games from Nigeria pavilion at Gamescom 2026 marks a strategic effort to elevate the profile of the Nigerian game development sector on the international stage. Scheduled for August 26–28 in Cologne, Germany, the pavilion serves as a centralized hub for Nigerian studios, developers, and ecosystem organizations to engage with global publishers, investors, and media partners. Led by Maliyo Games CEO Hugo Obi, the initiative represents the culmination of long-term efforts to professionalize local talent and foster a sustainable, globally competitive gaming ecosystem.
The pavilion, located at Hall 4.1, Booth C010, functions as both an exhibition space and a networking center. Designed with cultural motifs to establish a distinct national identity, the space is engineered to facilitate high-level business interactions. The three-day programming includes live game demonstrations, developer meet-and-greets, and specialized sessions focused on infrastructure, funding, and talent development. A central highlight of the event is the Africa Games Industry Mixer, which aims to bridge the gap between African creators and international stakeholders.
By consolidating Nigeria’s presence at a major global trade event, the pavilion acts as a platform for showcasing local creative output while addressing the systemic requirements for industry growth. The initiative underscores a broader ambition to integrate Nigerian developers into the global gaming market, signaling a shift toward increased visibility and collaborative investment for the region’s emerging game economy.
