The acquisition includes the KPL franchise slot previously held by Vici Gaming. This move solidifies JDG's presence in franchised titles.
Beijing-based esports organization JingDong Gaming (JDG) has expanded its competitive portfolio by acquiring the King Pro League (KPL) franchise slot previously held by Xiamen-based Vici Gaming (VG). This transaction marks the final exit of Vici Gaming from the Chinese esports landscape, concluding a 12-year tenure that saw the organization compete in major titles including Dota 2, League of Legends, and CrossFire. While the financial terms of the acquisition remain undisclosed, the deal represents a significant consolidation of assets within the Honor of Kings professional ecosystem.
As part of this strategic expansion, JDG also secured the contract of professional player Yang “Wuwei” Tao from Nanjing Hero. Tao is recognized as a high-value commercial asset, currently serving as a brand ambassador for Pandora and holding a position on China’s Honor of Kings “Dream Team” for the upcoming Esports World Cup in Riyadh. This acquisition complements JDG’s existing operations in the League of Legends Pro League, Valorant Champions Tour, Peace Elite League, and the Naraka Bladepoint Pro League.
The deal highlights the ongoing evolution of the Chinese esports market, where franchise systems continue to drive organizational investment and player movement. By integrating the KPL slot, JDG further solidifies its presence in franchised titles, maintaining a business model that focuses on stable, league-based competition. The acquisition follows a period of organizational restructuring for Vici Gaming, which had previously divested its League of Legends franchise slot in 2021.
