Hasbro’s fiscal year 2024 financial results reveal a company in transition, characterized by an overall revenue decline of 17% to $4.13 billion, contrasted against a significant recovery in operating profit, which reached $690 million compared to a $1.5 billion loss in 2023. While core segments such as Consumer Products and Entertainment experienced notable downturns, the Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming division emerged as a primary growth engine. This segment achieved record performance with $1.52 billion in revenue, marking a 4% year-over-year increase and maintaining an operating profit margin exceeding 20%.
The gaming division’s success was bolstered by strong licensed revenue, specifically from Baldur’s Gate 3, which doubled initial expectations, and Monopoly Go!, which generated $112 million. These results underscore the effectiveness of the company’s licensing strategy, though management anticipates that future contributions from these titles will stabilize in 2025.
To sustain this momentum, Hasbro has unveiled a three-year strategic plan titled Playing to Win. The initiative aims to achieve $1 billion in gross cost savings and mid-single-digit compound annual growth in net revenue by 2027. Central to this strategy is a pivot toward becoming a modern play company that prioritizes digital engagement. Future efforts will focus on expanding core franchises, diversifying target audiences, and increasing investment in self-published video games. The company has established a development pipeline that includes partnerships with studios like Saber Interactive and internal projects such as Archetype Entertainment’s Exodus, with a target of launching one to two new game releases annually between 2026 and 2030.
