Across the world, Nintendo held the top position for gaming brand searches.
Global Leader. Nintendo was the most searched gaming brand globally.
Epic Games and Gameloft dominate Google search interest among gaming brands across Africa, according to a consumer-brand search analysis from Business Financing, as reported by Games Industry Africa in February 2021. While Nintendo led global gaming brand searches, the African picture differed: Epic Games and Gameloft ranked as the most-searched gaming brands across 52 countries on the continent, with Atari also appearing among the leading terms. South Sudan and Sudan were the exceptions, showing no featured search terms.
The underlying analysis mapped the most-searched consumer brands by country and sector over a twelve-month period. The gaming findings are one slice of a broader study covering multiple consumer categories worldwide, intended to show regional differences in brand interest and digital habits as online activity accelerated.
On methodology, researchers first compiled a long list of consumer brands drawn from existing rankings of the world's most valuable and popular companies, including Forbes, the Financial Times, GameDesigning.org, BrandDirectory, ICT Buzz, FashionUnited, and WorldAtlas. They then used Google Keyword Planner to collect monthly search volume data for each brand over twelve months, and applied adjusted search volumes to determine the top brand in each country.
The coverage is notably brief, and the author acknowledges that the somewhat sensational nature of the study may prompt questions about its rigor. Search volume is also an imperfect proxy for actual player engagement or market share, and the brand list was assembled from third-party rankings rather than a systematic survey of gaming companies. The findings are best read as an indicator of web interest rather than a measure of gaming usage or revenue.
